What exactly IS the difference between the HE store and the 'standard' education store for , say ... a Macbook , thanks

think the HE get 14% discount whereas the standard edu store is 10%.

Last year, the same promotion finished on October 31st, it was November (2nd?) when the new macbooks were released (I would know, I bought one :p)

Nice! I thought we weren't going to get a promo this year, shame most people are already back at school!
I'm still hopeful for new macbooks though...

I hate this. I move into uni on sunday, teaching starts a week later, I don't know if I can bare to wait until mid October or even November. If I order one today it would give me some time to play around on it and be set before I go (windows user here:D)

Apple HE Discounts

A base spec macbook with HE discount is £601.60, with the usual educational discount its £656.83 and full list price is £699.00.

I don't know if the discounts vary from uni to uni though, these are correct for University of Nottingham.

Also the HE store is accessible off campus, you just have to bookmark the store homepage you get redirected to after you select your uni. (You do need to access on uni campus first).

My uni allows us to connect to our uni account from home, in a remote desktop. This is worth checking out if you're looking into ordering in HE.

Thanks guys

I'm using the Open Uni so cannot connect from campus ...as campus is my house :D ...I was under the impression it was more like a 23 - 30 % discount though and I'm disappointed to hear its just 10-14%........

Well originally I thought it was a rubbish offer - considering the US got a $299 rebate.

Then I spoke to one of my friends who reminded me:

1.) We get the back to school promo potentially as well as the new macbooks (if indeed they come out on the 14th) Those in the US had to choose between a free touch (would anyone in their right mind really have gone for the 8gb old nano?) and a newer macbook.

2.) The touch we can get is the 2nd gen, meaning whilst as least in my opinion there isnt a great deal of difference in 1st and 2nd gen, at least we're getting the latest tech which will be current for at least another year.

3.) There was a post this morning on the front page detaiing new macbooks shipping with "aggressive pricing". Maybe if they lower each macbook by ~£50 then that would offset the cost of a new touch even more in comparison to todays prices. So potentially we could get a new macbook (no-no in the US), latest gen touch (no-no in the US) for about £25 more than we would pay otherwise (£74 additional cost after rebate with £50 price drop).

Now I would like to have the new macbooks released. Please. :)

I waited ages for this promotion to come before my ordered my iMac. I gave up waiting a week before I came back to uni (aug 22nd). Now no free iPod :(

The rebate does not quite offset the cost of iPods which start at £109.

I think you should edit that, as UK prices include Tax! UK VAT IS 17.5%, a £95 rebate more than covers that on an 8GB Nano.

Last year was exactly the same, eligible customers got an £85 discount off, and the Nanos then cost £99.

So, it's a free 8GB Nano, or £95 against another model.

Does anyone know where to find information about the maximum quantities you can order from the UK Education Store?

I've searched all over the website, and I can't find anything....

Here's what I found
Purchase Quantity.
Staff, students and parents purchasing from the Apple Store for Education Individuals will be allowed to purchase the following quantities of product per academic school year:

a. Desktop: One (1) may be purchased per academic year
b. Mac mini: One (1) may be purchased per academic year
c. Notebook: One (1) may be purchased per academic year
d. Display: A maximum of two (2) may be purchased per academic year
e. Software: A maximum of two (2) per software title may be purchased per academic year

Don't know how strict that is though, but I do know when buying in-store, they take a note of your student ID... I wouldn't test it :p

Darn, too bad there isn't a Mac I want right now... maybe I'll get lucky if I hold out until the end of the promotion :D UK gets new products, but US gets an older but more expensive product... so with any luck when they're both done, we'll see new Macs. New MacBooks were announced around November of last year if I recall.

Remember the higher education store has more of a discount but requires an on campus connection (a few people have disputed this). There are definitely differences in price between the two education stores!

See the quote below - you have to access it from a uni network first and then just bookmark the URL.

It's also available in store - just show your student ID (a few threads say that HE isn't available in store. It is.)

I was under the impression that it was 1 laptop & 1 desktop per academic year but here (section 22) it says 5 per household.

That's the same price as mine.

That refers to 5 rebates per household, not 5 computers. If that's the only condition, I could order 20 computers with education discount, but only claim 5 iPod rebates :D

Not that I'm likely to buy 20!
