Wow...
Has anyone else noticed how apples stock has tanked from about 180 to 135 over the past few weeks?

Everything's down at present although AAPL is down more than most. Could be exacerbated by the rumours of lower margins due to the "product transition" on the next line of MacBooks.

Could by a buying opportunity when it stabilises.

The "lower margin" product not a rumor. Apple announced this fact at their last analyst conference. The lower margins were priced into the stock months ago. What is dragging the stock down today is the fear that people will be keeping their wallets closed this holiday season and Apple will not make its numbers.

That's dumb that they don't get as much of a discount as we do here in the states. Maybe it's because of extra costs to ship them over seas.

Wait, since everything is made in China, aren't they already overseas to begin with?

=)

Something tells me that the Macbooks will be on the shelves this month. I say this because the DSG group (biggest electronic group in the UK, equivalent to BestBuy in America) has ran out of the Macbook and Macbook Pro range for the past few days. I can't see them having the 'sold out' sign up sign for a whole month, considering PC World (A DSG store) have an in-store Apple section.

There is not much difference in the distance between the US and UK from China , go figure

Can someone please confirm? I know that on the iPod boxes it says designed and manufactured in California. *I think* I would imagine it would be the same for the MacBooks. And considering that the dollar is worth less than the pound the computers 'should' be cheaper? :D

Perhaps new MacBooks announced on Oct.14th, but available on Oct.31?

You would think Apple would want to capitalize on Thanksgiving and the holiday season instead of waiting until MacWorld in January to launch new MB's.

New MBP's (which isn't their high volume product) can wait till January with the latest Intel processors.

Don't know about the iPods but the computers are made in China .....and no, they shouldn't be cheaper....... they are a rip off price in the UK compared to the states:( EDIT > actually they are not, I was wrong . ...you may now read on .

today must be one of the darkest days of my life...

Return your iMac which you are allowed to do if you buy from Apple.

And buy another one.

Or call them, and ask them if anything can be done.

Nonsense. The entry level MB is 699 pounds INCLUDING VAT. If you exclude VAT the price is 594 pounds.

In the U.S. the same entry level MB is $1099 (or 618 pounds) PLUS sales tax. Sales tax ranges from 5-10.25% depending on what state/city you buy in).

So the reality is Apple computers are less expensive in the U.K. than the U.S. but if you want to complain tell your MP to lower the VAT.

Nonsense. The final cost (with tax included) is more in the UK. We pay £700 final price, whereas you pay between £650 and £680.

And you can't complain to an MP to lower VAT. VAT is 17.5% across the UK excluding the Channel Islands and Guernsey.

actually its been shown that the sells of apple products have been holding pretty well. the fall is down to the fact that a investment bank is going under. same thing happened a couple of months ago when the housing banks went under

I was about to mention that exact point also. DSG are a massive retail group (internationally), and considering their recent landslide performance, they will use all their buying power to 'try' to persuade Apple to release their MacBooks to ensure they have something appealing to consumers. MacWarehouse is a DSG outlet and they are VERY low on Apple laptop products so I would make a guess that MacBooks will be announced within the next 2 weeks. Just my thoughts folks :)

Really , I thought it was much more of a difference than that , I'm surprised ..

I take back my comment about the rip off price in the UK  .

Sadly you two have no idea about DSG. Proof? Go into any PC World/ Currys Digital and ask about Macs.

S*** ask about anything and they don't have a clue.

2 words for you: Price match.

I can give you the links if you ask nicely but DSG is not a place to buy anything, least of all Macs.

Nonsense. Without wishing to be rude someone needs to read up on basic economics. Overheads? Supply & demand?

The hoary old chestnut that the UK is more expensive than anywhere else isn't true if you do your research.

For some goods yes it is but there are far more complex reasons than "rip off Britain".

Shop around and you'll get some really good deals.

Blow me.

I never said they were a good company, nor did I say they are good Apple resellers. WTF you been smoking?

I am well aware of the service which they provide hence the reason why I stay away from them at all costs.
