I'm also a part of the same grouping and I ordered an iPhone 16 Pro Max in Desert Titanium with 512 GB on launch day - email confirmation arrived at 8:05 ET am.
I have verified that tracking by reference number will still work. Looks like they’re using the order number minus the last two digits as one of the reference numbers for this year. Once the tracking number is registered within the UPS system you’ll be able to look it up by reference number.
Go to the UPS tracking website and then click on "Track By Reference Number." Once you get to that page, copy you order number from your Apple Store app or from the email confirmation that you received. Paste that into the reference number section and delete the last 2 digits. Then choose the destination country and enter the delivery address zip code. Then hit "Track." If it’s already registered within the UPS system you’ll be able to look it up. If your label hasn’t been made or put into the system yet, it will give you an error message saying "Currently, we are not able to provide the tracking details. We can’t locate shipments if we haven’t received information from the shipper yet, or if the package information is older than 120 days."
ya..... NOPE! I wouldn't do in store pick up in that case!My nearest store is well over 3 hr drive away

right!? we were getting new doors installed last year and the install company wanted to do it on the day hubby and i had dr appointments scheduled.... that we scheduled TWO MONTHS prior and that was the soonest we could get.... the installation company had the audacity to ask us to change them!? Uhm.... NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No big deal. Apple has removed them from most products already... the iPhone was bound to happen... and I've got a large manilla envelope full of them - all different sizes, so I really don't need any more.
It's not "stressing" as much as it's just part of the yearly dance between us, UPS and Apple. Up next: flight tracking.
Why would I be kidding? I'm dead serious. I'm here because I like to see the progress of the tracking for fun, but I certainly am not here to see ridiculous panicking because times and updates are different for everyone. That's just silly.

Or I’m just excited and want to see it move out of FOMO. I love this time of the year, my iPhone is the one thing I splurge on for myself every year. Add that to the extra stress of leaving the country for two weeks the day after launch, and I’m a little nervous.
Not true. The iPhone 4 had a large bunch delivered a day early. It was the last year it was an ATT exclusive and they wanted to manage the volume of activations so a large number were delivered the day before launch. It has, however, never happened since then so very, very unlikely.
Yep - I feel like we hear about one or two each year. Most of the time it's a lie, but we have seen a couple that seem credible.
Very few are stressing. This is fun for some people and as I've previously posted, this is a long standing tradition going back at least 20 years at this point. But, another tradition is people coming into this thread and exclaiming how ridiculous it is that people do this, so welcome!
Now there's that familiar ZhengZhou, CN scan, did you just see that tracking number in UPS MyChoice this morning? I woke up and was hopeful it would be there, but so far not.
I don't see it searching by reference number either. If I remember right from years past, I think when you search by reference number it only gives you the last 4 numbers of the tracking number. So that makes it hard to track.My choice. I didn’t have to do any special, logged in then it was at the top of the app.
This is going to be a long week!
People need to chill - take a tranquilizer or drink all week.
I don't get anything pulling up either searching by reference number, but I mentioned above, if I remember correctly, I think when you search by that, it gives you a tracking number with all stars and only shows the last 4 numbers, making it really hard to track.
I keep trying though. Would like to just see it somewhere.

Usually Saturday later in the day or Sunday AM. My UPS still shows nothing yet but I keep checking lol
