My iPhone Experience
OK, for your viewing and entertainment pleasure this year, here's my iPhone experience, the full story.
Going back to the iPhone 4, this is how it goes. The third Friday of September (give or take, depending on when the iPhone is actually released) is a recognized holiday in my family. It is "iPhone Delivery Day." No other significant events or activities can be planned for this day, because, you know, it's iPhone Delivery Day. We celebrate this day, as our forefathers did many years ago (not really).
To begin with, I take the day off work, because it's a holiday after all. Vacation, personal day, whatever it takes. Then, it's a chair in the driveway or the front porch waiting for UPS (or FedEx). I know in reality (most) of the drivers are great employees doing their job well, but I don't want to fall victim to the (unfounded) conspiracy they "rang the bell but no one answered" effect.
If I go inside for a few minutes I tell the dog, "Bark if you hear UPS." You laugh, but she is amazingly good about this. Sure, I get the occasional "trash truck is mistaken for UPS" error sometimes, but that's OK.
Around Noon (if the delivery hasn't arrived yet) it's the annual iPhone Delivery Day cookout, where I grill some hot dogs and have hot dogs and chips out front (still waiting for delivery).
Whenever the iPhone arrives, the setup begins...moving data from the old phone to the new.
I am really fortunate I can get one of these phones every year, and I don't take it for granted. They are expensive, but they are my "one thing." For example, I don't golf, ride a motorcycle, boat, or travel to any great degree. My thing is the new iPhone in September.
The iPhone is my birthday present and my father's day present.
When asked what I want for my birthday or father's day, the answer is always the same two things:
1. The new iPhone the day it's available
2. No crap about item number one
I hope you all get your new phones on 9/20/24 (or as soon as possible) this year!
I say we just enjoy it, 'cause why not? There's enough trouble and unhappy stuff going on in the world, and they will still be there for us on Monday 9/23, so try to enjoy 9/21 and your new iPhone!

No such luck with phone number.
I'll keep checking. I'll just feel better once I see it in the system even though I know it will get here on time. Some of you won’t pop up in my choice until Sunday, or Monday. I think I’ve even seen as late as Tuesday morning in the past. But they always make it to your doorstep on timeNo such luck with phone number.
I love your story! People that know me think I'm nuts to get a new phone every year and I try to say, like you, it's the ONE thing I do for myself. Awesome to hear other stories, as well.
my tracking still isn’t showing (doesn’t come up with numbers either, never has worked for me) and that’s normal. I seem to get it later and always miss that initial fun. But I’ll join the tracking waves soon I hope!

I still don't have any tracking information on UPS either. Not freaking out (yet) LOL
Reference number never worked for me, either, and this year I'm ISPU so no tracking for me. 🥲
But for what it's worth, I had two new cases delivered a few days ago and UPS My Choice shows the complete order ID as one of the reference numbers. So if the order minus two digits isn't working, you might try the whole order number.

I got the QuadLock MAG Case for 16PM and it is going to be delivered on Monday. I ride with my iPhone on a Quadlock bike mount so this is the only case I need. As for screen protector, I got yesterday the Spigen as it is the one I have been using for the last 8 years or so. Never had a broken screen with this screen protector.

I ended up going with the new Caudabe case and a Stealth but getting worried since no ones order has shipped out yet. Caudabe failed me when it comes to having a case on launch day before so I might have to go with another case that I know ill have on launch day. Patika maybe? Never tried their cases.
I’ve always gotten the Apple leather, just loved them. So this year I don’t know. I was looking at a case from Zagg, do they make good cases?
Unrelated question, am I the only one a little concerned that when holding my phone, my finger is going to be activating that new camera button?

I've been doing preorder since the process began and all these questions in this thread are old news, though it's completely understandable for new preorder folks to ask them.Same thing every year. Some show up at different times. I don't know why people act like it is any different "this time." If your order shows a Sep 20 delivery, then it will be there. Now go worry about something else.
I just ordered a Patika so fingers crossed. I’m afraid I won’t like the feel of it. I prefer the “softer” feeling cases like leather or silicone, but going to give it a try. They are gorgeous though.
If there's one thing that Apple has nailed down tight, it's shipping. Barring some unpredictable catastrophe in the delivery chain, if Apple says you'll get your phone on the 20th, you'll get your phone on the 20th.
One year, I think it may have been Xs, my tracking didn’t show up until they cleared customs at SDF. And then my phone didn’t move until like 12 or 1a on Friday morning. I was convinced I would miss launch day.

Good question. It is right about where I put my fingers so hope that doesn’t become an issue. Surely they tested that.
Yeah it has happened and I’m sure the driver/UPS got in trouble because Apple makes them hold them at the local hub until Friday.
It might hit the button but unless it’s full click then it shouldn’t launch the camera. Also it’s a new part of the phone. A good case maker I’m sure will do testing on their cases to make sure of no accidental triggers before they ship.
