No, some of us are just young and like the experience. We don't all have to put on a tie and be at work at 9am. You only live once, so why no just live it up?

Standing in line for a consumer product is living it up these days?

Sorry, but if that is setting the bar very low.

I agree with you, I have waited in before as I just posted about it.
It can be a "Living it up" experience.
The first time I did it I was pleasantly suprised how much fun it actually is. I'm always tempted to do it even when I pre-order. It's more then just waiting for an iPhone, it's part of the whole experience!!!

The queue in Regent Street, London is not very long now, five hours after opening, probably a lot less than 100 people, they have a queue barrier system in Hanover Square which is completley empty. Since last year Covent Garden and I think westfield East have opened.

I think there are a lot of iPhone 4 owners out there like myself that are still under contract that can't justify upgrading to the 4S. The iPhone 4 launch at my local Apple store saw people coming out of the woodworks, whereas the 4S barely drew a crowd. I'm sure most people preorder as well.

I don't personally think the lines will be nearly as bad as they were for the 4. We will hear all about the record sales, but none of the articles will caveat the fact that its over multiple carriers and overseas. Still going to sell a ton though.....but in terms of lines and pre-launch pandemonium....I think that's gonna happen next year.

So standing in a line is the "living it up" these days? :D I'm gonna think about all these people while laying/walking on the beach.

I guess to each his own.

A vacation laying on the beach is the most boring useless thing in the world to me. I'd rather be visiting the local people in restaurants/bars, enjoying museums, and seeing nature walking paths.

To each his own.

Obviously the group claiming to be the lower 99% isn't doing THAT bad.

Ummm ... well there is a ton of people out of work in the US. Midwest is/has been having problems for decades but particularly bad in last 5 years.

I agree (unfortunately). I have the 4 and would like to upgrade but apparently I can't until 7/12. Kinda sucks. I know they want to have me finish paying the remainder of the phone subsidy, but it still feels like being punished for being an longtime customer (since iphone 1)....

Its too bad at&t doesn't have a customer appreciation program for us longtime customer - especially since I also relented to getting the M-Cell crap to extend their weak coverage into my house ....and it still sucks.

Ugh.. (bitch whine bitch!)

:)

I need more coffee...

Aside from my personal dilemma, I think the phone would be a decent upgrade for me. I would like the better camera/lens, the better antennea, and to try out siri.

Oh well maybe next summer :( :( :(

Are these new iPhone customers?

Are all these people new iPhone customers? Or are they paying the higher price for those us who already have contract with AT&T?

My upgrade price is $549 for a 32GB model. I'll be waiting until after Feb 2012 before I get one.

Exactly, why is everyone so upset with the people who enjoy waiting? We are not harming anyone or causing any problems. I guess if I was missing work or school, then it could be a problem, but I'm not.

Let's just all enjoy our iPhones and chill out!

Got to Manchester Arndale (UK) at 5.40am, the queue was already twice as long, if not longer than the queue at 6.20am when the iPhone 4 launched last year.

I genuinely thought I wasn't going to get mine, but I did! Hooray, it's backing up now, after that it's badgering Siri all day and organising around 1000 photos into folders.

And sleeping, lots of sleeping.

450 for the 16 for me, or wait a while till it's 200. I'm getting the 4s now, why wait for better photos and Siri? I'll sell my awesome condition iphone4, if I waited it wouldn't be worth nearly as much so it taking that into account it isn't much more expensive to do it now vs later.

I'd be paying full retail price of $549 for a 32gb model which I can't really justify at the moment. I know when the 6th iPhone comes out as a redesign I'll be eligible for a normal discount. Otherwise I'd have to pay full retail for both if I wanted the 6th iPhone in 2012 whenever that comes out too. iOS 5 has made my iPhone 4 so much faster, that holding off want be too bad a wait.

Full retail (at least the unlocked ones) is another $200 above that. You're still getting subsidized when you upgrade early, just not as much.

I'm very curious to see the Verizon numbers when the dust settles. The iPhone 4 launch on Verizon was a touch quiet in large part to the number of people still on contract with their Android handsets. I remember I only upgraded because my renewal became available, but many others were still without upgrade and they were anticipating the next version of the iPhone. I think Verizon will add a lot of new iPhone owners.

Haha!

My local Rogers store in Saskabush had like zero people in line and 5 iPhones in stock. I got the only 64 gig, and I showed up like 30 minutes before open and was second in line of 3 people! Funny this year here, but I heard in Toronto they are lined up 1000 deep.

Now to restore!

Lines in Roseville, ca not to bad

stopped on my way to work for free doughnuts and coffee,

there were about 100 in line, and still handing out cards for the desired phone you want.

I talked one girl into getting a 32 as instead of a 16. She walked and got a card for white 32 with no problem,

Dang she was cute too. but her mom with with her, as it was the moms upgrade..

I wonder how many of those Occupy Wall street hipsters are lining up.

Obviously the group claiming to be the lower 99% isn't doing THAT bad.

Pretty sure you don't need millions to afford an iphone. I have lots of down and out friends (I am a musician, afterall) who have iphones because it is their primary communication device.

----------

I realize this is really random.. but does anyone else find it a little eerie how identical Apple stores are across the world?

No more so that McDonalds, Starbucks, or any other international retail outlet.

Pre-Order arrived, UPS guy told me that they were advised by 10:30

Even though website states end of day.. My guy told me for his route he had 45 of them

 None. They're too busy Occupying Wall Street.

Obviously the group claiming to be the lower 99% isn't doing THAT bad.
If they're buying an iPhone (unlikely) it'd probably be because they want to support a corporation that actually pays taxes and whose CEO (Steve Jobs till recently) was historically paid a salary of only $1. It sounds like you don' know what Occupy Wall Street is really about--or who is occupying. Hipsters, huh? Is that what you call nurses, contractors, soldiers, street cleaners? I think you should find and talk to a person who is there and actually involved in the movement before you start mocking them or pretending to know who they are, what they're doing or buying come to that.
