I was sold on the iphone 6 with a graph
This has gotten beyond absurd.

Apple can do whatever they want with managing CPU and battery performance on any device at any time. It is beyond insane to suggest that anyone outside of Apple has any right to any particular level of CPU performance at any given time.

Tim Cook has embarrassed Apple by admitting wrong where none existed and has opened the company to undue scrutiny.

I was sold on the iphone 6+ with those amazing graphs that apple shown during its presentation on the A9 chip. I paid for that chips performance therefore i expect it. Whats so hard to understand?

BMW has a history of reliability issue. That's why people lease BMW instead of purchasing.

Apple conveniently neglected to tell users about the slowdown and indirectly forced upgrade without users realizing their old devices were being sabotaged at Apple's discretion. You look at these two instances, you can't be happy about one over another.

Equally bad.
Wrong. People lease BMWs because they can't afford to buy them. Lower monthly payments.

BMW is actually top 25% in reliability and ahead of companies like Honda and Cadillac according the last JD Power vehicle dependability study (industry standard). Your old idea about BMW is no longer true. They've been above average for 10 years now in reliability.

What a great waste of money.

It doesn't matter what they do someone will be mad! You slowed down my phone, my phone shuts down randomly, my phone isn't the right shade of black, my 4-year-old device isn't like new anymore. Move on people!

This news is a butthurt for a lot of fanboys here. You guys need to chill out they just wanna make sure Apple is not abusing the system. Besides other countries also investigating Apple, this just to show behavior like this is not tolerated and I'm sure there are a lot of formal complaints that is hard to ignore. If they are truly sincere and honest then they won't find any fault from Apple, but then if they are truly sincere and honest then they should have been more transparent to begin with. If they weren't hiding anything then it wouldn't be hard to disclose, if something is rotting then people will notice and it's just a matter of time that it will stink out, if there is.

They broke the law. They will lose billions. Nothing is overblown or exaggerated. They profited immensely from lying and hidden maneuvers, that’s very much an illegal business practice.

Based on millions of units sold, all you need are rudimentary math skills. But you can go ahead and find plenty of your own anecdotes if that's what you're looking for.

Am I speaking for "people" now? Got a chip on your shoulder? If so, take it up with someone who actually cares how you feel about it, because I don't anymore. And we were getting along just fine...

You're missing the point. Have some people upgraded because of the battery? Statistically there has to be some.

There's a huge difference between some people deciding to upgrade because of the battery (causing a slower phone) and a large number of users upgrading because of some sort of conspiracy inside Apple to intentionally slow their devices (planned obsolescence).

why were you going to apple to have your phone repaired? You're a third party repair shop owner.
Because currently the iPhone X screen costs us $322, whereas i have AppleCare+ and paid $29. :D

That's the problem with OLED screens, they're still ridiculously expensive. if I had the iPhone 8 with a standard LCD screen you can bet I would fix it myself.

Really? Are you a lawyer? Perhaps you'd like to cite the specific law they broke and how they broke it?

It isn't "piss poor customer service" to not have enough batteries in stock. The fact that you can go to an Apple store and have them fix anything is actually excellent customer service. When hundreds of thousands of people want the same thing at the same time, it obviously causes bottlenecks.
Not to worry, I'm more than happy to help Apple relieve some of that traffic. And I do. Daily.

Curious. How much do you charge?
$49

We really live in some kind of twilight zone.

There are literally tens of thousands of people who die each year from real problems with products, such as gun violence or lunch meats (seriously. Look it up). Lawmakers? Crickets...

Apple delivers optimum user experience for users with older devices. They launch an investigation!

Wow...

Actually, I don't see why they did it, this would be something like this:
I buy an Electric Vehicle, it runs fine, then a few years later the battery is degraded to say 75%, but still usable for my daily commute as that still gives me about a 75 mile range, but the manufacture decides that because the battery is degraded to 75%, they are going to make the car not travel at speeds higher than 45 mph, even when the battery is fully charged and they claim that it may turn off randomly if they don't limit it like this.

Now, we all understand if the battery is down to 5%-10%, limiting the speed until it is charged again makes sense, but if the battery is fully charged to capacity at 75%, then full speed should easily be able to be achieved. What Apple chose to do is always limit the speed if the battery is degraded, not just when it got down to 5%-10%, plus Apple never gave any indication that it was doing this. In my EV example, when the battery is down to 5% or so and the vehicle is limiting the speed, there is a clear indication on the dash that this is happening so you know what to do to correct it. If Apple had been honest and upfront about it, you wouldn't see near as much outcry about it.

You are confusing energy capacity with peak current delivery capability @ a minimum stable voltage.

Wow...ignorance is a bliss.

Government announces this investigation just before quarterly earnings report??

Really?

Combined with all the other ********* negative media, I'd say there is some real intent to smear AAPL stock.

Forget about the likelihood that the gubment (and most regular people) are not capable (or at least not well versed in electronics engineering) to understand why Apple did what it did for iPhone battery performance.

Just WOW.

To make matters worse, I was at Apple the other day getting my iPhone X screen fixed (they made me come back to the store 3 times and ended up just replacing it instead). Anyhow, this other guy was there to get a battery replaced for $29 on his 6+, they told him they could order the battery now but the repair likely won't be done til late March or April. Needless to say he was super pissed off. As a third party repair shop owner, Apple's piss poor customer service put a huge smile on my face. I have plenty of 6+ batteries in stock. :D

Just keep on sending all those pissed off customers straight into my loving arms, Apple.

I’m in the same situation with my iPhone 6 Plus here in Barcelona.

Bunch of old white men with no technical background whatsoever "investigating" something which they know nothing about and of which absolutely nothing will come, except a complete waste of taxpayer dollars.

Checks out.

Who invented the language you’re using? The phone / computer you’re typing on? The electricity it’s using?
