20 minutes to go, and I'm warming up my trigger finger while swallowing three cups of coffee!

I work overseas on a six weeks on, six weeks off schedule, and I usually have to carry about 80 pounds of books with me, both reference like Missing Manual Series, and pleasure reading. The iPad is going to eliminate one suitcase!

It's also going to relieve my back from having to cart around my 17" MBP to Starbucks or other wi-fi hotspot to check my mail and surf the net.

w00t!

I wasn't that bothered about the delay in the UK as I was feeling fairly patient and was going to wait a while after launch to buy anyway. But now this is really happening I can't help but feel a bit jealous that the Americans will be able to pre-order this weekend.

Me too, but at least it will force us to read some real reviews and comments for a few weeks before we blow £500+.

I like the video with the iPad about it being magical and something that exceeds my ability to understand. It cracks me up every time. I forgive Apple and still reserving my iPad. Do.

Yes, I am buying a large iPhone device and its going to be awesome and compliment my small iPhone device. I'm thrilled you won't be buying one though b/c that's just one less person to compete with when the ordering starts up.:)

how many times have you hit the refresh key already while thinking... maybe they will put it up earlier than 7:30 CST .. then realizing they aren't going to after the refresh happens.

Helpful Hint

Sometimes, Apple updates the store, but when you reload, you can't see it. Instead, while at the apple store is down page, double click on the "Store" button at the top of the navigation menu. This will work better then refreshing

International Use

Hello,

Will the US version of the iPad 3G work in foreign countries? If so, does AT&T provide an iPad data plan for international use?

Thanks!

What will it actually be like to look at.
It'll look like my 17" ubMBP's display, only with a wider border (and smaller overall size). The back will be very similar, except wider bevel and a black Apple logo.

The resolution is almost identical to the 17" ubMBP (132dpi for the iPad vs 133dpi), so I know what text will look like.

How will it be to hold.
I have no doubt it'll feel as solid as my ubMBP does when closed.

How will Docs for the iWork apps be stored. Can they be foldered up and managed in some way.
IIRC, it will have a shared folder on the Mac's Desktop. I don't know if a hierarchy is possible or even makes sense for the iPad's iWork.

Can I read PDF's with the ebook reader. If so ,how well are they rendered. How do I get them on. How can I manage them.
I'm looking forward to finding out myself. If it doesn't, there will be 3rd party apps (and/or updates of existing ones like PDF+).

How quick will it ACTUALLY be (rather than how quick they tell us it'll be).
I watched the keynote, the Apple promo video, and review videos from the Apple event. It was very easy to see for myself how well it responded.

How long will it take to charge. What's the actual battery life going to be like.
25W/h battery / 10W USB charger ~= a few hours. I'm not worried about actual battery life. They've been pretty much right on for both my iPhones and my 17" ubMBP.

I'm quite likely to buy one, but I sure as hell wont until I can try one, and I see reviews of these things day to day usage.
Everyone's different - for you, it sounds like you need to see it live. For myself, my experience both with the mentioned Apple products and my profession as an engineer are plenty for me to hit the "buy now" button :)

They probably will, but if you don't get a specific plan upfront, you will have a painful experience when you open your bill. I'm speaking from about $1000 of experience :(

This thing is supposedly a major device for education (text books, etc) but there is NO EDUCATION DISCOUNT... thats wonderful.
