ATT Sucks!

I went to 2 different ATT stores. 1 store only had 40 iphones, and the other had 70. Of course I did not get one so that is why I am complaining here.

You would think :mad:on LAUNCH DAY you would have more phones!!

Anyone else noticing that their 1st Gen iPhones acting a little doggy with typing and tapping through menus with software 2.0?

My iPhone totally reset itself right down to the position of icons on the home page after the update.

Oh, another thing..... To others that might find that their Apple BT earpiece isn't recognized after the update..... Go into the System Settings->General->Bluetooth->Unpair your iPhone BT Headset and pair it again. If it asks for your id number, they are usually 0000. After I did this the headset worked again. It sucked I was trying to pick up a phone call and it wasn't responding.

Awesome, finally got through to the activation servers at the iTunes Store. :)

To those still trying, don't give up, it'll happen for you eventually!

It seems that people upgrading to 2.0 on the original iPhone are slowly getting results, but no one seems to be getting success with the 3g iPhone.

I think you all just need to chill out.

If you get that -4 error or whatever it is that comes up after it sits on "Accessing Itunes Store" for a while, click OK, click on your music library or anything else on the left side, and then click back on the iPhone so it trys again.

Just got my Aluminum iPhone upgraded to 2.0 after doing that about 5 times.

my iphone 3G just unbricked it self with out even getting in the itunes activation sreen thing.........now i cant sync and itunes keeps trying to connect to server. Im super confused

im seeing a trend. everyone that gets their phone working finally tells everyone else to "chill out". ive been doing that since 10am and mine STILL wont work. so dont act like you figured out the magical spell. congrats on getting yours to work and all. but it is just luck at this point.

I got mine to unbrick. It took about 15-20 min, just constantly retrying. First, my phone unbricked, but I couldn't sync my music. Then all of a sudden (after couple minutes) the itune registration thing worked. I clicked through and filled out the forms to the last page and clicked submit. Connection error again...but somehow i was able to sync now.

This seems to be the current trend with the iPhone 3g. They are unbricking, but synching is not.

I dunno if Im lucky or what but I got up this morning, saw the official 2.0 was out, (I loaded the early release yesterday) and then restored my phone so it would have the officially released 2.0 at 11:00am EST with no problems, it went quicker than yesterday actually...

Maybe its just coincidence or something, i dunno.

With not an Apple store in sight and having to deal with my local AT&T store, I am just dumbfounded over the whole process. I thought being iReady was only allowing 1 phone per person. There was someone just ahead me. He walked in and bought 4 (three 16 GB black and one white). It is bad enough living in an area where the iPod is the only thing Apple that people purchase.

As I stood at the counter doing the Fulfillment thing with the Priority Shipping ($ 15.00 each) for two phones. I would have been happy to had walked out of the store with one phone. That was my plan from the beginning. Even without the four phone purchase, there was a point where the 5 customer limit in the store came to a complete halt. The activation was not working. The five customers refused to leave until the system came back online. Yes, they were given the option to take it with them.

I believe Apple and AT&T deserve equal blame with all that has gone wrong. I guess I am just tired of the limited quantity at launch. It is not just Apple. I must digress for a moment or two. It is time to step off my soapbox, take a shower, and quit bloviating. I will just have to be patient and wait.

iPhone 2.0 Mall of America, MN

Mall opened at 5:00 (even though I called the night before and they told me 6:00), I got there at 6:00 and there were about 50 people in front of me. Got the iPhone I wanted (16G Black) but, like everyone else when I tried to activate at Apple store at about 8:30 central time, iTunes bombed.

*Note about "Authorized User" in AT&T system:
BULL*****
I dragged my wife (the main account holder) into an AT&T corporate store on Wednesday night to make sure that I was listed as an authorized user-spoke with the rep, and supposedly got all information entered as needed. Went to get the iPhone this morning and...entering the last four digits of my SS# and phone number DIDN'T work. Tried entering the last four digits of my SS# and my wife's phone-DIDN'T WORK. Since I don't have my wife's SS# memorized, I was stuck! I had the biz card for the AT&T rep and I called him and he said, "Oh, you should have come into our store for the iPhone." Why didn't you tell me that on Wednesday you jack@ss! So, even though I was supposedly made an authorized user-the system rejected my information. Luckily I got through to my wife, got her last four digits and the process worked.

In short, do NOT go through the "authorized user" process at AT&T unless you plan to go there to buy the phone. Otherwise, just bring the last 4 digits of the SS# that you need and hope that you have a trusting Apple rep (I probably looked legit because I had the AT&T card and they were standing with me when I called). Not sure what would have happened otherwise...AT&T blows!

Good luck and hope that iTunes comes back up soon-really want to use this thing.

iPhone not working

Ok was one of the first to get an iPhone this morning, when other customers phones were activating n the store this morning mine would not, and still will not I do not get the time out error I get the "an unknown error occurred (-4)" I have a small business account and AT&T said that was part of the problem, but now AT&T said everything is correct on their end and are now blaming everything on apple so I was transfered to them and of coarse I am still on hold, it has now been 5 hours since I bought my brick, oops I mean iPhone I have had with this thing already,

David

My 3g iPhone just unbricked also. No sync yet, but at least i have a phone, and the speakers on the 3g are 200% louder than the other iphone, a HUGE PLUS!!!

Bad Planning

How to crash your web server/data center:

1) Come out with an update to an existing application that is used by millions of people on multiple platforms and that they use to access your website. Ensure this update is substantial in size. (iTunes 7.7)

2) Launch a new part of that existing website that encourages frequent reloads and increased traffic. (App Store)

3) Conduct a worldwide product launch that requires access to that website to activate the product. (iPhone 3G)

3) Have everyone who bought the first version of your product download the new OS software from the same website. (iPhone 2.0)

4) For good measure, completely upgrade a historically low-revenue/low-margin product that users use for online storage. When existing/trial/new users begin uploading 20 Gigs each, have your crisis team route all traffic through your main domain. (.Mac-->Mobileme, auth.apple.com)

5) Schedule all of this on the same day. (Brilliant)
{Yes, AppStore/iTunes was available earlier, but you get the point}

6) Be a company devoid of anyone with the guts to tell their effete, autocratic CEO that this is a bad freakin' idea, regardless of his penchant for simultaneous dog and pony shows. (Can you say Fonzie on waterskis?)

7) Reap the rewards of looking like a small company completely unprepared to be the big company they are becoming.

I agree..... The servers are just getting freaking hammered right now. There is no magical spell or tool that you can use to get it going. I have a feeling it will slow down as the day progresses on. By tomorrow it should be ok. Keeping fingers crossed that it will be ok.

Mine has been activated but won't sync to the store which is fine for right now.

Epic Fail

I just got back to work from the San Luis Obispo, California store.

The iTunes server issue I think has been well covered. But even assuming it was working--why were they trying to upsell people on MobileMe and effectively giving people TECH SUPPORT!

If you waited in line you should know what the hell you were waiting for. Get in... get out.

I was sent home un-activated after being told my old iPhone would continue to work (false). Still not activated.

I hope Apple did this so that they will never ever ever have to buckle to demands for in-store activation ever again.
