ITS NOT APPLES FAULT ITS YOUR FAULT.

they didn't make you stand in line, everything you did today you subject yourself too, you could of waited for the next patch of 3g iphones, but you chose not to and thats apples fault? people are ignorant.

itunes trying to autoupdate my current iphone when I plugged it in to charge and turning it into a brick, however, is Apple's fault.

I have a hard time blaming Apple for this. I mean the fact that its the activation process implies that its AT&Ts fault since they're the ones with the cell phone network, not Apple. If iTunes is trying to talk to an AT&T server behind the scenes and the AT&T server is hosed, then its really not Apple's fault.

Just because iTunes is the front end, doesn't necessarily mean its all Apple on the back end...

Now I'm really pissed, I still can't activate it, and I just poped open my bluetooth dock combo, and the dock is for the old IPHONE! First they sold me a bluetooth and dock combo with a new dock, then they returned the standalone dock (which was probably also incompatible) and this bluetooth dock won't fit!!!

its 10:30 now 2 hours since ive been trying to download the new 2.0 software for the ipod can some one please help?

this is what im keep getting as a message
"we could not complete your itunes store request. the itunes store is temporaily unaviable. please try again later" this been coming up for the last 2 hours or so, can some one help me

same right here buddy
gettin piss annoyin!!!!!!!!!!!!
ive downloaded the band game they showed at that conference, and i reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaally wanna play it, but grrr silly apple
they can revolutionize the world yet cant do this Dx Dx
grrrr!!!!

LMAO...All I can think of is some poor person waiting in line for ours and not getting one, or getting one and then can't activate it...and that kid from the Simpsons [Nelson] pointing at them and going "HA HA"....

As infuriated as I'd be, I'd smash that person with my iPhone bag.

So I got down there (AT&T store) and waited in line for an hour. While I was waiting, I was chatting with some folks in line. After that hour, the person I'm chatting with mentions that there is only one phone per customer. This having not been mentioned anywhere on Apple's site or by any of the AT&T employees that had been updating us on how things would proceed.

Trouble is I was getting a phone for my wife as well. So my options were to wait in line for what would likely be another hour to get just one phone, then have to go back and do the same thing again later, or just call it a day. So I gave up and went to work.

What a waste of time.

If you're going to be a greedy brat and absolutely NEED some stupid electronics device the second it comes out, this is what happens.

Waiting in line since 1 in the morning? Are you people out of your minds?

I'll just stroll into my local store later in the next couple days when the demand has gone down. No way am I putting up with a bunch of fanbois for that long. :p

Just be patient with the phone activation. I was sent home from my ATT store, in Joliet, IL with a phone that hadn't been activated yet.

I called Apple to see what was up and they told me that you just have to keep trying. The error that you are getting most often is a serve time-out due to the high volume of users trying to access the activation.

I just kept trying and now my phone is all activated and running beautifully.

I got a white 16GB. I got to the store around 5am and was the 16th person in line.

"A number of people have reported that Apple has simply let them go home to finish the activation process."

I'm in the UK. SO, does this mean one could potentially go to the Apple Store instead and buy the phone - O2 stores have sold out - head home, put in the old SIM cards and then activate? I'm paying the max price for the phone anyways.

Just walked out of an AT&T location with my phone

As mentioned in the original post, everyone at this location after about the first 3 people were sent home to finish later. They setup our plan and such but didn't even try to activate the phone there.

I'm glad though, as I have an unhealthy fetish for Apple packaging and just love breaking open a new Apple product myself :)

Hopefully it won't be too long of a delay.

Did they really think they could handle a GLOBAL launch? I mean I really don't know of anything else that has launched in this many countries in one day.

Chill out.

Chill out everybody. Nice work if you got a phone. Now go have a beer and watch some rugby or something. Go out with your mates for lunch.

I'll admit it's terrible that the service is overloaded right now - but you guys all sitting there going "doesn't work, better click again", aren't helping.

Argh, well, sounds like the iPhone 3G is much more popular than the original iPhone, which is great and all, but I won't be able to saunter in this afternoon and buy one like I'd hoped. :( They'll certainly all be gone this time around.

Still, at least I have my original iPhone and can play with those new apps (that don't use GPS) and get some kicks that way until the stock gets replenished.

That's a bummer about the activations, how frustrating; those servers must be absolutely crushed by all the customers. On the other hand it certainly underscores the new iPhone's popularity!

I awoke this morning and immediately downloaded the 2.0 update. I should have checked this site first. But, then again, I should be able to trust that Apple is a responsible company who puts out a quality product. After all, this is why I waited for the official release instead of the early version yesterday.

The MobileMe outage I can chalk up to inexperience and rate it as no big deal. But this is truly an embarrassment for Apple. I should not have my only phone bricked just because I decided to update it with an update that Apple released. By releasing the update, Apple makes certain guarantees to their users. One of those guarantees is that their phone will continue to function.

Apple has had previous issues with this type of thing and should have known better. I believe that it is time for management to take a closer look at the talent they employ. Perhaps they need more, less, or a different mix. But, the bottom line is that something is not working with all of their deployments and that needs to be fixed.

The reason I love Apple is because of the impeccable design, quality of product, and top notch support. I cheer for Apple like I do for a sports team because I want to see more people using Apple products. I love using my Macs, Apple TVs, and iPhone. By not properly analyzing and mitigating risk for these launches (which I believe is self evident here) they are risking all of the gains they have made. the average new user that we want is not an Apple zealot (yet) and that is what many in this forum do not understand. Apple needs to admit it's mistakes on this one, lick it's wounds, and FIX IT.

Your are right it is the consumers fault? We should have known it would have crashed ATT's and Apple's servers.

Stupid customers!

gee moron, what happens when to many people try to access a server all at once to get files and the traffic is greater than what that server is used to handling? it crashes.

if you were worrying about standing in line, problems with activation, ect you shouldn't of went out and bought a phone, you should expect problems with 200 people are outside lined up for a phone and there would be activation time and what not. if you didn't, you're stupid for lining up for a product and having no idea what to expect.

either way your stupid. getting my 2.0 firmware right now and have no problems with my V1 iphone and will be getting my iphone 2.0 in 2 weeks before my cruise and avoid waiting in the long lines and have problems with activation.

people are asinine

Well this is great - iTunes wiped my iPhone software to prepare it for the 2.0 upgrade and now can't connect to the server to activate it...I'm stuck with a non-functioning phone for god knows how long. Way to be prepared, Apple. It's not like you could forsee every single person who already owned an iPhone and every single person buying a new one trying to connect to your server this morning to get the software update.

You guys realize tho, that as soon as you get it activated, you're going to have to potentially deal with the "yellow screen issue", since a lot of people seem to have that problem?

/* stirs the pot */

But remember, we had to deal with the 2 different series screens problem last year (5+7), so I do sympathize.

I feel like my 2007 launch day phone is now a badge of honor.

I am in the same boat.

Did I call you stupid? You must be 14 years old living with Mommy and Daddy still. If it is Apple's fault, than why are the consumers to blame? We should have known they were ill prepared for this launch?

Move on.

Didn't get mine today. Waited for 2 hours total :(

At least I had my iPhone with me while standing in line, to keep me updated about how people were doing while standing in line for the iPhone.

Couldn't you have just looked around and, maybe, talked to people? :)

(just playing...why did you not get one--out of stock?)

Although I love the anticipation for the release of new stuff from Apple, I wish they would think about all the people that are going to be updating at the same time. Now I have a non-functioning phone and I do not have a phone all day today. Not good!

Does anyone have any word on how long this is going to take?
