Sure but weather alerts are all over the place, on TV and regular radio and such in high Tornado areas, not to mention the sirens in tornado areas. Do we need a cell override?

I was in the car, in the middle of absolute nowhere. I didn't know the local radio stations so I wasn't listening to the radio.

They have also woke me up at night, because they push past DND, as I don't live anywhere near a siren either.

Yes they do need to pushed.

The people whining about this must not live in a place with flash flooding, hurricanes, or tornadoes. Personally I'd prefer to be warned about my possible impending death or need to evacuate. What nefarious purpose could this even be used for? At absolute worst (ie you never get it sent for a "useful" reason) it's a minor annoyance once every.... 3 years... They test fire alarms once a year!
Oftentimes they DO, and then complain the government didn't warn them or help them.

So the sound from the alert did not come out of the airpods max. Great for apple for doing that. I don't know if my soundcore Bluetooth earbuds would do the sane so I did not chance it.

No it did come out of my Maxes, but when the alert is played through headphones it's made a lot quieter, so the only alert I heard was from my phone and it was quiet and comfortable.

Everyone else in the room though...poor lads lmao

So I guess you were in the dark about the last hurricane to hit Florida? Or heard nothing about Covid? There are plenty of means to get information. I doubt this is really necessary.
OK, well fortunately it doesn't entirely matter what you think is necessary in this case, yeah? Sorry your phone made a noise for a second you didn't like. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Side note: it's VERY entertaining to hear the Freedom Brigade going ape*** about this intrusion on the soverign soil of their cell phones.

We just receive this every first Monday of the month, at noon. At the same exact moment all the sirens outside start screaming, the same ones telling you to go to your bomb-proof shelters. Problem is, we don’t have any shelters.
Every month. And yes, is freakingly loud on the iPhone but also on other phones.

Dang, that was annoying! My watch, phone, and my laptop (using phone link) all going off at the same time!

The right to privacy part would which is why I said one could argue.
What part of your privacy was violated? You received a packet of data from a cell phone tower. You voluntarily own a device that connects to cell phone towers. You are not being traced, and no search or seizure is occurring. It was sent to all phones indiscriminately.

Again, an emergency alert is not a violation of your privacy. It's an alert lmao, the same you'd get over the radio or TV. Plus, you can turn off emergency alerts (but that's not a wise move since...you know...they're supposed to be alerts.)

can't turn this one off though

I wonder how many car crashes were detected by the iPhone today because of an unrelated test message. o_O

So? It was a test that was over and done with that you were warned was coming ahead of time. And it's a good thing they did that test as a lot of the alarms were greatly delayed when they went off in my neck of the woods.

Sure. Just pointing out this one can't be turned off. That's all 🙂

Did you get a message? I have it off too and my Android still vibrated like crazy, but I saw no message anywhere
Yep. I figured if Congress can override the phone's notification settings, what was the point? I re-enabled the Emergency Alert System in my phone notifications, except for routine weekly/monthly tests.

So you are cool with cell towers bypassing setting on your device 👍
