Let's announce to all our enemies what time we're sending a test alert to everyone so that it is the opportune time for them. o_O

Serious Question:

Have people really not recieved alerts like this on their phone before? I have been getting at least Severe Weather alerts for years, and I believe Amber Alerts.

The weather alerts have saved me more than once.

About three years ago, when I was living in Birmingham, I was driving back from Nashville in a thunderstorm (it didn't seem bad) at night. A few miles past Huntsville on i65 I get a pushed NWS tornado warning so I pull over, and about 1/2mi down the road it was ripping the guardrails up and tossing cars and trees.
Sure but weather alerts are all over the place, on TV and regular radio and such in high Tornado areas, not to mention the sirens in tornado areas. Do we need a cell override?

shut down my phone and restarted it with it on the mute switch and do not disturb on and it still came through another time blaring so the mute switch has no effect, Apple needs to address this now.

Let me try rebooting with airplane mode turned on.
Airplane mode would get rid of it. Mine has been in airplane mode since 2 PM Eastern Time and haven't heard a sound.

You realize the entire point of this is to break through everything, right? If there was a critical alert it would be ridiculous to miss it due to having your phone on do not disturb. Besides the other test in 2020, I've only had this go off maybe 2-3 times in my life, and it was when my town was in the direct path of tornadoes.

Opportune time for... what?

Those you can turn off (and I have it turned off since getting an amber alert at 3 AM once). You can't turn off today's alert -- by act of Congress. (other than shut down your phone or use airplane mode). This is a "special" alert that they don't allow the cell phone companies to allow users to be able to turn off while your phone is on.

Well...that was annoying. Thankfully I was wearing AirPods Max throughout the entire thing, which isolated it to just one alert, and kept it quiet. Neato.

And y'all said I was gonna blow out my ears. 😂
I want to know how loud it was in places with a dense amount of people

And that helps you while you are sleeping how?

Apple decided that the settings actually mean nothing for this...

I didn't get the message, maybe because I was updating the phone to 17.0.3 at the time. :)
