On the university I study at this moment it's 13" MBP galore.

I agree. 98% of those with a MBP have the 13", possibly mainly due its lower price as compared to the 15 and 17" models.

This reminds me of this :p:

Is this real or is it an add? That's crazy. How can Apple marketshare be so low?

Oh...here's a thought.

Those people on college campuses with 13" MacBookPro's don't need them. They are overkill for those journalism majors, etc even with the capabilities they have in the 13".

In the graphics/post world, I have never seen a 13" MacBookPro. 15" & 17" only due to the 13" being worthless due to the lesser video card and processor.

It might be overkill but as long they buy them apple will keep making them.

But yes i do agree the 13 inch macbook pro has very little life left in it.

I have a ton of things I need to buy this year.

* New MBP my 2008 model isn't cutting it anymore for development.
* New iMac, for REAL development and for the kids :D
* iPad3 as my mobile test suite and development system.
* AppleTV3 because I just NEED 1080p!

Just waiting for the new toys to show up. :D

Don't know why they gave you a minus.

Looks like a good list to me:)

Would like a27" (yes) Mac Book Pro or an iMac I can easily take
with me.
Should be possible if they drop the disk drive and make it the MBA form factor. Now that's a slate!

Okay , Ill settle for a 21 inch MBP.

They need to come out with the new Ivy Bridge Macs already. I've been waiting to replace my 08 MacBook for ages now!

Are you serious?

Haha jealousy? ;)

Been waiting for a 15" MacBook Air, or Air-like MBP. Definitely want the additional screen real estate, SSD, and no optical drive (happy to use external). Long overdue and eager to part with some cash to get it!

Uni students have 13" MBP's because they don't know any better. For a long time it was minimum dollars spent to look like one of the cool kids. I felt really bad for a friend of mine who recently bought a 13" MBP for his first Mac... as he's a gamer I'm always worried he'll judge all Mac performance on that machine.

I think if you took a similar photo today, it would have a lot of MBA's in the mix.

...Sarcasm aside...

Anyway, it'll be a tough spring for those of us with a craving for a new Mac. I don't think there will be much action until June/July, which is a shame because after a couple years of waiting, the spending account at work is back and I can put $750 towards a new computer as of April :p

this represents like .0000000000000000000000000000001 of the computer population.

but yeah, apple's market share will grow as soon as windows 8 kills the users desktop experience and ML strives ahead with device integration.

I'm sure a certain buyer's guide aids the purchase lags a little.

There are definitely a lot of people waiting for updated iPads, notebooks, minis, iMacs and Pros. While most of those seem almost certain to update soon, the MacPro is the big mystery, and it could take most of the year before we see one... it they could come in early Summer; many thought the Pro would have been upgraded late last year. Poor Pro consumers are getting a raw deal this past year.

When i got my 15 inch MacBook Pro a few years ago, i didn't realize that I would be using it for video/3d/graphics work, so it has no discreet graphics. I may be a broke college student, but I will have enough in my college savings account to purchase a new 15 inch MBP when it comes out.

That is, assuming Apple doesn't take away discreet graphics, and allows you to swap hard drives/upgrade ram. I could honestly care less about the ODD cus I have probably used it 3 times in the last year.

When i do need to use a disc drive it is for DVD authoring, and I have a nice external drive from OWW that does light scribe and blu ray.

I'm just terrified that Apple is going to take away the Pro features of the 15 inch. I'm hoping they don't go too minimalist and instead think practical. Take away the ODD, and use that room for possibly a slightly thinner enclosure, while maintaining the features we need to do good work. Please Apple!:)

Because most people's computers which aren't Macs do pretty much what they need for less money and with more choice.

Or, a large percentage of computer purchases are done at the enterprise level. I'd bet that Apple's share of the US consumer PC market is a lot higher than their overall market share.

Another bad time with CES just around the corner. We have ISSCC going on just right now. Next up Cebit and after that Computex.
Guess you should never buy a computer if you wait for every "next" thing to be finished.

Isn't January always a slow month?

waiting for either a new mac pro or an iMac

if the updated MBP's are really nice then i might go for a loaded 15" instead

i'm just really interested in seeing where things go as far as retina screens. i don't imagine that there's a 27" retina display that's near ready/affordable enough to implement in the iMac or Cinema Display line...

I agree discrete graphics seems like a good thing to retain, so if the MB Pro line integrates into the MB Air line, I hope the 15" and above keep their discrete graphics. Also, with Thunderbolt it seems like a lot of the connectors could be gotten rid of, though I imagine that would upset a lot of people who have old devices. It would be cool if they could integrate all those ports into the new Airport Extreme or new TC (assuming it uses the 802.11ac standard) and just let people access those devices wirelessly. Power, TB, and Audio ports only on the MB, everything else chuck out (if need be, sell a cheap TB hub with all those ports).

I think the MacBookPro 13" is gone and done. I don't know of anyone with one.

I think what you'll see is the the 11-13" is going to be the Mac Air and the 15"-17" will be the Mac Book Pro or Mac Air Pro.

Peculiar.

I sell more entry level 13" MBP than all other Apple CPU combined.

MBA's go off the shelves at a 10th of the rate 13" MBP's do.

But hey, if you don't know anyone with them it must be true.

You plan based on roadmaps. The majority of this just takes some effort from publicly available documents and news. Intel is very consistent with introducing new processors at CES. Yonah, Penryn, Westmere (Arrandale) and Sandy Bridge come to mind.

I mentioned it in another thread but the Windows 7 released was timed just alongside the introduction of the Lynnfield/Clarksfield + Intel 5 Series.

I think we'll see an update when Apple get their hands on Ivy-Bridge processors.. That seems like the natural progression as they reported to be faster then Sandybridge and they consume less power..
