I'm waiting for the new iMacs, the minute they come out I'm ordering a 27" with SSD

All SSD roll out... MacBooks this year, iMacs next year. SSD still too expensive for iMac to maintian margins.

----------

Speaking of iMac, will the next update be a complete redesign? I'm holding out for a minority report-style minimalist, transparent glass design. Current design is way too thick, bezel needs to go, etc. Come on, Apple, take my money!

Redesigned iMac will follow same design as new Apple Television. Edge to edge screen with no border. Bigger screen in same footprint.

Is this real or is it an add? That's crazy. How can Apple marketshare be so low?

This was a special project at Missouri School of Journalism sponsored by Apple. You can read about it here.

Poor guys had to switch to iLife. Most of them will have to learn MS Office when (if) they get a job.

Considering most use iTunes for their music, not sure wtf they are using an ODD for...everything can be DL'd digitally, from courses to game to music to videos, etc.

Can't download Apple lossless files which is why many still buy CDs and rip into iTunes instead.

Gee, this is kind of "non-news news". Of course people will hold out for the updated mac, I know I am. I have been in the market to replace the computer in my home, but why do it now when an updated mac is only just around the corner.

I would guess that there will be a spike in sales after the release of the updated mac.

I think the MacBookPro 13" is gone and done. I don't know of anyone with one.

I responded to you with my 13" MBP. I love it.

I looked at the MBA and the MBP and for my needs the MBP fit the bill. I travel a lot and wanted a laptop that was more portable hence the purchase of the smallest MBP Apple offers.

You might be right about Apple killing off the 13" MBP and replacing it with the MBA. But there are plenty of people who use the 13" MBP.

One more thing ...

Maybe / hopefully Apple will keep up Steve's tradition of "one more thing" at the iPad event and blow our minds with new MacBook Pro's, Air's, Mac Pro's ... or something .... anything .... I'm ready to buy a new laptop and what the hell a destop too ... just hurry up :)

I need a new portable for running Xcode. A 1920x1080 or maybe 1680x1050 screen would do it. In the current lineup, this would mean a 17" Mac Pro, but I think a 15" or 17" Air would be fine.

It's a real bad time to buy a MBP when truly new gear is on the horizon. The past couple years has seen only incremental upgrades, with essentially the same specs and guts.

People on Craigslist are apparently having a tough time selling used MBPs partially because of this and that their prices are way too high for the conditions. In fact, if Apple wants to increase MBP sales of existing Sandy models, how about slashing prices by 50%?

I would feel real bad if I bought a Sandy model now for $2k, only to have Ivy released in a couple months. Talk about instant depreciation!

Waiting for the 17" Macbook Pro to get updated so I can buy a fully loaded one as my main computer for the next 3 or 4 years. Come on Apple! Big refresh, please!

If everyone acted more like me, the demand would be extreme for about 5 days then go to about zero until a new model came out.

I'm not surprised that people aren't buying new Macs right now. More and more people seem to know about new Mac updates. People at my school have gone from not knowing what a Mac is to saying nobody uses a Mac to all having Macs to following Apple precisely.

yeah, I feel bad for those people waiting for that Mac Pro update.

Wow, they must be feeling uncertain at this point.

----------

The few people who still do this can get a USB DVD drive from Apple

I had a CD stuck in my iMac for a year. Finally came out. I'm going to completely destroy it.

Yes! I actually still do this. I hate the iTunes Store because of the compression.

In fact, wouldn't it be better quality to download songs from YouTube sometimes? I mean, if the person uploads it in good quality.

----------

I know lots of people with one. Now what?

It is also the most popular model according to Apple, and an article a while back said it was the best-selling laptop model ever (because the Windows laptops are many different models, of course).

Why is this news, I was even ready to buy a new iMac, but decided to update my late 2009 model instead and wait another few years for a new model.

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster is out with a new report today citing data from research firm NPD on U.S. sales of Macs. According to the data, Apple's U.S. Mac sales were up only 1% year-over-year in January, tracking behind predictions that have called for roughly 20% year-over-year growth for the full quarter. Munster believes, however, that continued strength in international markets and the potential for new Mac updates such as a refreshed MacBook Air near end of the quarter will likely help Apple close strongly to meet expectations. With historical evidence showing overall growth outpacing NPD's U.S. data by 14 percentage points, Munster believes that Apple's actual worldwide Mac growth for January could be in the 15% range, close enough to the 20% target for the full quarter to give a Apple a reasonable chance at making up the difference with a strong finish.

Piper Jaffray's independent data on iPhone sales for January are tracking toward full-quarter sales of 32-34 million, a figure that would help overcome any softness on the Mac side. iPod sales trends remain in line with predictions of continued declines as customers shift from the aging iPod line to iPhones and iPads.

Then a big summer with Mac pro/ Air. With Mountail Lion.
With a few exceptions, Apples user base are an educated bunch. It's no secret Lions quite rough around the edges. A fact that while largely unspoken, has been confirmed by Apples early announcement of Mountain Lion. Eager to refocus their consumers attention on Mountain Lion, it's only logical for people to wait.

I'm certainly glad I skipped over Lion. It had no appeal, whereas Mountain Lion does.

What makes you think Mountain Lion is any better than Lion?

In My opinion Leopard or Snow Leopard are much better, the way they go now does not intice Me.

As soon as IvyBridge is out I will buy a new MBP and the first thing I do is get rid of Lion.

Would love to see a renewed iMac design! With all this potential for external graphics hardware thats been touted via TB. If macs had the possibility to be upgrade graphically this would be fantastic.

Cant wait to see what Jonny Ive dreams up. Could it be so radically different that it will blow us away??? Should be an interesting year!

What makes Leopard better? Exposé again?
