its not a bad thinking... PC sales in general are down across the board. Not everyone buys a new computer every year. Believe it or not smartphones and tablets/ipads are cutting into PC sales. computer systems are lasting a lot longer being that people have other devices to work on. If you're just surfing the net (email, fb, music, etc) then do you really need a computer? your phone and tablet can do all of that.

A lot of people, including myself, are waiting for update rMBPs.

Add to that the entire desktop line is outdated, and that doesn't help the Mac at all.

Plus most of the Mac software has been neglected for years.

Thankfully updates are coming and they started with Logic X which was great.

Cannot wait for a new iWork, however I have fears it'll be a crippled iOS version ported to the desktop.

What exactly is outdated about the current iMac?

The reason people buy computer mostly to emails, browsing and game. And ipad is perfect for it + its cheaper.

but this is june data, i'm guessing sales would go up again in the back to school season.

I don't want "Fusion", just a cheap hard drive and I'll replace it with what fits my needs.

In an iMac? That is not only ridiculous, but a downgrade.

You don't buy iMacs with the intention of replacing the HDD or SSD or FSD.

And if you "don't want Fusion" then you really don't know what you want...unless what you 'want' is 500 GB SSD or better.

The Haswell Macbook Pro's will sort this out.

Yep, everyone was expecting them at WWDC, so with that miss a whole bunch of sales are on hold. Mac Pro's are the same. Most students buy in July or August too, so the Air didn't have a lot of sales (and the reports of graphics issues probably didn't help either).

I just hope the Haswell rMBP still has a discrete GPU.

Which was one of the dumbest design decisions Apple ever made. The most likely part to fail, isn't end-user replaceable (and when you take it to Apple, you can only get the same, limited options - not an upgrade).

I don't want Fusion because it is a kludge.

A proper hybrid is standalone, no software running in a CPU involved.

Apple Inc's official Quarterly Report is when?

Shouldn't we all just wait for Apple's official quarterly report to be issued & open for analyst Q&A as has been done historically before jumping to conclusions?

Steve jobs basically dug his own and the rest of home computing's grave with their products, and probably have been the ones to do the most harm to home computer advancement since before the 1980's

It is going to take a long time to recover from this damage. It's such a shame :(

Besides the 5200 RPM drives?

SSD should be standard, but I understand Apple fears people may want to have more storage on a desktop, so therfore we have fusion drives. Fine, but fusion drives should have been standard WITH 7200 RPM drives. In the year 2013, 5200RPM drives should not even be considered.

Besides 512MB of VRAM?

PC cards are starting to come in 4GB allocations! iMacs, for the price they are charging, should have 1GB standard. Instead, Apple uses binned parts that doesn't pass Nvidia inspections and therefore we have only 512MB of VRAM on our cards.

Besides the GPU itself?

Isn't the baseline 640M SLOWER than last years (2011 models) baseline? Of the two baseline 21.5 models, the 650M and the 660M should have been used as standard, both with 1GB of VRAM. On the 27's, the 675MX with 1GB of VRAM and the 680 with 2GB of VRAM should have been standard in their base.

No one heard about the graphics issue. You mistake forums with customers.

And why wouldn't the next rMBP have quality graphics? Have you seen what they put in the new Mac Pro?

Intel 4500 or 5000 is not good enough for a rMBP. And if they were, it wouldn't matter. So why do you care?

I'd have bought at least two macs in the last 6 months had they updated them appropriately with parts that have been available for some time, haswell, 802.11ac and 32GB RAM in a notebook for example.

I'm struggling to see why apple finds it so difficult to use the latest chips in their offerings, it's just maddening.

I would call that overpriced, not "out of date".

What you can get in a PC does mean anyone buys it. I personally am in trenched in the technology business and I know precisely 1 person with a graphics card in their PC that has more than 2 GB of VRAM. Don't overvalue things that are virtually unnecessary.

I agree that the Fusion Drive should absolutely be standard, and I won't buy and iMac as long as they're not.

Says a PC user.

I came VERY CLOSE to building a Windows machine. The only saving grace was that Microsoft decided to release Windows 8. :p

Isn't this reheated leftovers news? NPD released earlier already noted the drop in Mac sales last quarter. But do these analysts really expect the MBP, which shipped for, what, 15 days in Q3, was going to erase the Mac sales deficit for the past 2.5 months? Seems silly. Everyone is waiting for updated Macs + the Back to School event didn't start until this current quarter. How many students held back their purchases so they could qualify?

The reality is consumers are not shooting their wads of cash until they see Apple's "Army of Products" march across the plane of the stage at Yerba Buena or Apple Town Hall.

Dumb for who exactly? Tinkerers?

New MacBook Air battery is killer.

Unless you need the Pro for performance, don't see why people are waiting.

Mac Sales down more likely due to overall shift to iPads and mobile. PC probably took a worse hit based on past years.

I don't need a Pro, but I'm not getting Air because the silver edge of the screen is FUGLY.

They had a good run, their issue now is they are lacking the USP that helpers sell so many products in the past. Every version just seems like an improvement on the previous version, rather than offering something new. Couple that with Apples excellent reliability and after care support and it means people keep products for longer.

Without dragging up the past too much this is something Steve Jobs excelled at, he could identify a new product and get it to market inside a year. He also had a way of knowing what would sell, such as retina display etc.

I do however have big hope for Apple. IWatch if done right has the potential to revolutionise the watch industry and a proper Apple TV can also do the same. They also have yet to really diversify, this is why you see rumour such ad 4.3 iPhone and budget iPhone. Then of course they have the Chinese / Asia market which has barely been exposed.

Personally, I'm waiting to see Mavericks' effect on the MBA's new battery life. If it already gets 12 hours, hypothetically, Mavericks should do even better with: Timer Coalescing, App Nap, Safari Power Saver, and iTunes HD Playback. Compressed Memory might help as well.

I have a 2010 MBA and if I'm lucky, it will last 2.5 hours with my typical usage.

To be honest, when my new iMac comes in (fusion drive, 16GB RAM, 650M), I may return it. I really don't think I should have spent $1800 after tax on a computer with 5200RPM drive, fusion or not. I think I need to wait and see if the 2013's on the SSD standard or at least come with a 7200RPM drive.

In fact, what I was so irritated about was that the 21.5 DOES come with an SSD only option, but they want $300 on top of the $1499. So let me get this straight: I build a computer with a HARD DRIVE and it costs $1500. Ok cool. But then I opt for an SSD, it costs another $300? What about the discount for the HARD DRIVE that got replaced? Did Apple forget I'm basically "returning" the hard drive? They basically are saying we are still charging you for the HARD DRIVE even though you are not getting one.

Apple is being to sneaky/greedy with their pricing and it's turning people off.
