barely a line at the flagship nyc fifth ave store also. quite surprising considering the no pre-order deal.

Really? About how many people?

I might just come over there if it's not too bad or just go to my local AT&T store like I plan (at 3). It'll be a little less mainstreamed then the Apple stores lol. Especially in my neighborhood.

I have a sneaking suspicion that apple is doing this on purpose...

want an iphone? too bad we only have the 5c in stock.

makes sense, it give them the most profit.

I wish people would line up like this when the Mac Pro comes out, show the Mac some support...seems all people care about these days is having the latest iDevice.

I hate this new iPhone 5S. And now I need to wait some more days to hate it first hand - and you all know how I hate waiting. I already hate the gold color - it's so awful I'm getting two to hate it twice. What a mess, Apple! It's going to flop!

I love my iPhone 5, which is perfect. It was a success. Apple shouldn't have changed a thing. It's a wonderful phone that works perfectly. I'm eagerly waiting Apple to release iPhone 6, so I can hate that one instead of iPhone 5S - looking forward loving my new iPhone 5S.

It's my natural cycle of hate-love relationship with Apple. Love you! Hate you! :) I'm very passionate, there is only red pill and blue pill - nothing in-between.

You lie. There is certainly a purple pill (in between red pill and blue pill).... I can tell you it works.

I wouldn't trust the down-played line lengths. There was still a 50-100 person line at Sydney George St store when I walked by at lunch!

i work a block away from there, and when i left around 9pm, the line was from the front of the store to just around the first corner. compared to how it used to be just a year or two ago, where it would cover most of the block and also in the quad outside fao schwarz.. this is definitely a significantly smaller line. probably about 20-30 people.. but that quad is always filled with tourists, so hard to tell which are really there waiting.

I still think the 5s will sell better than the 5 (and the 5c will sell better than both), but I have to admit, I'm okay with long ship times this year. It may be because I'm upgrading from a 2-year old iPhone instead of a 3-year old iPhone, or simply a testament to how well the 4S has stood up over the years, but I'm really in no rush. Still, the 5s is a remarkable piece of technology and I'll be staying up tonight as long as it takes to get my order in online.

Good luck to all my retina Haswell folks. This is the time to hope against hope that when the store comes back up, there will be magical silent upgrades to the rMBP. :D

A man can hope..

haha.. i've pretty much avoided the haswell rmbp mega waiting thread after last week, and i've pretty much told myself not to expect it til end of october.

AT&T is down as well.

It's 2013 and Apple still has to take down their entire online store to update it?

I assume that for major launch days they use different servers capable of handling a greater load, with various load-balancing servers between the internet and those servers. That can take a while to switch over. It also probably saves some bandwidth costs to serve up a store down notice as people spam reload in the hour leading up to launch over the usual page.

Cook said he was 'doubling down on security" but not on-line product ordering.

Welcome to 2005!

P.S. On that security comment, given all of the leaks and non-surprises on this product announcement, I guess TC should have told the dealer he would 'stand' rather than 'doubling down'.

Then you're getting one why?

What does this all mean!?!?

"An Apple employee just came out and asked everyone in line which color, carrier, and size they desired. After getting to the third person, there are no more gold/white or silver/white in any size for any carrier."

This comment does not make any sense... This would mean they only received 6 units and those 3 people in the front of the line accurately requested their exact stock (size/color/carrier) and used their 2 devices per person limit. Im not sure I am clear with this quote from RiderXTC...

you should get in on that. While the line is still short. I thing a lot of people that normally would pre-order will show up in the morning.

If only. I have class tomorrow. And at the moment, I'm skipping the 5s. But that may change!

Wondering if the iphone 5s will come factory unlocked on verizon like the iphone 5
