people actually wake up at 3 am to get a phone (that's not even your preferred colour) ? I guess being on west coast is good...

Probably 100 strong at Highland Village Houston, Most in tents bc of the rain so hard to tell. Went by three AT&T stores, no lines at all.

Would shipping times be better through verizon's website, worse, or the same do we think?

Cook said he was 'doubling down on security" but not on-line product ordering.

Welcome to 2005!

P.S. On that security comment, given all of the leaks and non-surprises on this product announcement, I guess TC should have told the dealer he would 'stand' rather than 'doubling down'.

They are also doubling down on allowing pre-orders

Glad I'm getting my 5C tomorrow.

Goodluck to all those pre-ordering tonight. Use the Apple Store App! It normally lets you purchase quicker than online orders.

I've got the Apple Store App open, one window with at&t and another with the online Apple store... I want's my phone (I have an iPhone 4, so I really need a new phone).

Pretty disappointed with the Salem, NH setup. Security isn't allowing any sort of line. The most they are allowing is people to park. There are people speed out over a couple dozen rows, maybe 100 cars currently. It's going to be a zoo. Wife wanted this thing but I opted to go home. Staying there doesn't even necessarily guarantee me a specific spot in line.

question. why does the site need to go down for every release?

The are updating the store pages. Rather than have people slamming it with traffic before it's ready, it's easier to just take it down.

Yes, you definitely win the thread.

If there was an Oscars for MacRumor posting, I would nominate you.

At this point, f-it. If I have to wait another 10 days, I'll wait 10 days. It's only a phone, its not food water or sex.

Yes, but it could be (theoretically) possible that certain women would deny sex to her man UNLESS he had a gold iPhone.

I saw the last Harry Potter movie with my friends at the midnight release, and it was fun even though I'm not a Harry Potter fan. I can understand camping a video game store for a new and anticipated game or a movie theater for a midnight release just to be part of the party, but an iPhone release? Either they're real hardcore fans or scalpers.

bestbuy.com is taking iPhone 5S orders for in-store pick up on 9.20 right now! Only it's for full upgrades or no contract phones only! I just ordered 16gig gray for my friend.. pick up tomorrow 9/20. For real.

I actually see this too. The place is an hour away and I would have to take the bus but...

Lucky scalpers. The profits on eBay will be insane for this launch.

I don't know, you're losing commission to eBay plus shipping plus the fact that it can take a while to sell it. Doesn't sound like a reliable business to me.

I have experience selling iPhones on eBay. Two iPhone 5s received as upgrades from AT&T. Both of them got bought by buyers who didn't pay (and bidded upon mostly by people with no reputation and in bad countries), then the second time by buyers whose accounts were hacked and used to buy it and pay for it. Luckily, we eventually got payment for both, but it takes precious time that you'd need to not waste selling a hot and fresh iPhone 5S.

Tip: If you're selling on eBay, make sure you set it so no buyers in areas to which you do not ship can buy/bid. That is actually NOT enabled by default and is an account option, not a per-sale option. And even with that enabled, a few guys somehow do it anyway, so you just have to block them and cancel their bids. If one does a "buy it now", tough luck, prepare to have your time wasted. Perfect example of a company (eBay) taking cruel advantage of its monopoly.
