I have three and I'm planning on selling 2 of them.

AT&T isn't resetting the eligibility. I have been able to purchase 3, two 16 GB at $199 and one 32 GB at $299. I have a single line account.

One of each will be for sale at their $599 and $699 price points respectively.

THANKS AT&T!

I've got one getting delivered on the 24th, and got one waiting at the Apple store which I reserved before being able to place the order just in case I couldn't get the order finished. So I'm tempted to get both and sell one on eBay, they're going for £699-£1100 right now, expect them to go for more the more they sell out!

In defense of Apple and ATT, did anyone really expect that the demand would be this great? I think everyone knew it was going to do very well, but lets be honest - this is probably one of, if not, the greatest consumer product launches in history with these numbers coming in.

I think any corporations servers would have collapsed under such weight. ATT reported over 13 million visits to their site......that's insane!

Oh, yeah, I got my order in through Apple so bummer for the rest! :D

Why might orders be so brisk?
  1. iPhone 4 perceived as faster 4G connection.
  2. People actually expect video conferencing to work before 2011.
  3. Fell in love with new design.
Don't get me wrong. It's a nice upgrade to pacify users until 4G is available but people are acting like this iPhone is the only fresh water after a natural disaster.

Really? Overlook the dozens of major features and investment in engineering by this company in lieu of simple ignorance by people flinging $300 a pop at Apple?

I don't think so.

At least a dozen people I talked to yesterday truly thought the iPhone 4 for was using 4G technology.

Never under estimate the ignorance of the average consumer. ;)

There will be a lot of disappointed iPhone 4 owners when they get them and realize the phone still uses the same 3G connection as the 3G and 3GS.

This is why I don't regret spending much of yesterday clicking. June 24 can't get here soon enough. :D

So...does this decrease the likelihood of just walking into an ATT or Apple store a week after release and picking one up?

What truly blows my mind is that they've sold this many without people even seeing one in "the flesh". This thing had better completely blow people away when it gets in their hands, given their expectations, or Apple will have a hard time selling the next version. There is a downside to having too much hype.

Don't they retro actively charge you for the remainder when there isn't another ATT account associated with it?

Someone should tell the tools over at Jizzmodo what this actually means...

They're spinning this as a delay, not as the sellout of manufactured units, which it almost certain is.

Idiots.

Those of you who are buying multiple phones only to sell them and profit, jump off a bridge. Thanks.

You only make it harder for the others that actually want one.

They should have. They have people who's only job with the company is to analyze numbers and determine the amount of product needed for a roll-out.

Part of me thinks that they purposefully produced a limited quantity for the initial batch in order to have those magic words, 'sold out'.

Anyone who had access to a growth chart of iPhone adoption could've easily shown you that the demand for this roll-out would be exponentially higher than for the 3GS.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy for Apple's success, but make no mistake, they knew they would hit these figures.

Stories about systems going down and 600,000 sold are publicity. And you know what they say about publicity...

Not to mention it is not even 64 gigs. I don't get the hype this time, I really don't....except for the people that skipped the 3GS and still have their 3G or 1st gen.

new iPhone

is this the ONLY cell phone AVAILABLE in THE WORLD???

it is impossible to quantify this demand...what HATH STEVE WROUGHT???:

If there is a carrier with a "perception" of 4G, it's Sprint. They advertise their 4G network, however, it does not reach over 25% of the US! Few major cities are covered -- No LA, NYC, San Francisco, Boston, Miami. Yes, they are expanding to some of these cities, but they are not there YET!

You can argue that ATT is a terrible carrier, if you do, don't use ATT. Don't get an iPhone. I don't understand people who hate on Apple because ATT's service is terrible. Yes, Apple *could* expand to other carriers...but you don't know what business deals have happened, good, bad, or whatever.

EXTREME SALES REASON #1:

Why is the 4G selling so well? First of all iOS is non-existant for 2G users, and pointless for 3G users. Therefore, you have an EXTREME install base which can/want to/needs to upgrade.

EXTREME SALES REASON #2:

Enterprises are adopting iPhone...

EXTREME SALES REASON #3:

People switch carriers all the time. New carries overseas...
I have a friend at VZ who is considering leaving the Driod based on some of the iPhone 4 features. I have friends that though a BB would be better -- went to the Bold 9900 and now they know it was not a wise move. They are ready to come back.

While there are some people out there that are not tech savvy and WILL think that 4G will be faster than 3G...yes iPhone 4 is not 4G, however, it will support the newest generation 3G technology when the carriers support it...but then again, it all depends on the carrier.

my prediction:

WAIT LINES WILL BE THE LONGEST IN APPLE HISTORY NEXT THURSDAY

sorry for the caps but I think its true.

So the "average" person knows about 4G, but doesn't know that iPhone 4 isn't 4G? I'm calling it.
