Not to mention it is not even 64 gigs. I don't get the hype this time, I really don't....except for the people that skipped the 3GS and still have their 3G or 1st gen.
This will be my 6th, yes, 6th iphone overall (including one that was warranty replaced). It's faster, front facing camera, longer battery, design change, WAY better screen, etc. I don't get the people who don't get the hype. :)

There will be a lot of disappointed iPhone 4 owners when they get them and realize the phone still uses the same 3G connection as the 3G and 3GS.

Not really, no one in line with me thought so. :)

I work at an At&t device support center, and I have to explain that,

1. It's not the iPhone 4g, it's the iPhone 4.

2. It's not a 4g capable phone

every day. Multiple times, every day.

If I'm not mistaken, I think Jobs referred to it as the 4g in his Keynote. Maybe he thinks it's on the 4G network, too!

With all this craziness, does anyone have concerns over how "reserved" their reserved iPhone actually is?

I would be really concerned if I just had a reservation. I have a feeling there will be a lot of people unhappy on the 24th. As they have stated, reservation does not guarantee availability. That's why I pre-ordered. Make sure you are at the very front of that line on launch date :)

They should have. They have people who's only job with the company is to analyze numbers and determine the amount of product needed for a roll-out.

Anyone who had access to a growth chart of iPhone adoption could've easily shown you that the demand for this roll-out would be exponentially higher than for the 3GS.

The only vision that's 20:20 is hindsight, not foresight. No matter how good these analysts are, you can't ever be certain accuracy will ever accompany a prediction. That's the amazing thing about linear time.

The other thing one must take into consideration is initial rollout. What I mean is that for them to ramp up for a one day sale of x million units followed by a huge drop in ongoing sales isn't anything that a profit based company would do. The reason is they would have to stockpile a shed load of units (at a cost of manufacturing and large cost of storage before launch).

They simply choose to limit their exposure on this. Most people will wait if they can't get one day one, and the corporation profits well on this bet.

Don't fault Apple for making a decision like this - it's the nature of the beast (the beast being capitalism). The peak will subside, and they want to address both the peak, but also the future (and more regular) sales volumes.

Pretty much. As long as you are at the front and have that golden ticket (e-mail conf.) you'll be one of the first to activate and right out the door.

Then what's the purpose of the reservation?

"They know how to 'take' the reservation, they just don't know how to 'hold' the reservation."

I think every time you say it you should add "MUAHAHAHHAHAAAAA" at the end of it for more effect..

Those of you who are buying multiple phones only to sell them and profit, jump off a bridge. Thanks.

You only make it harder for the others that actually want one.

Supply and demand. If you don't want to spend extra money on one, you can wait then.

Cost of UK iphone 4 is taking the pi**!!

how can it be $299 in the states and then be £599 in the UK? - Jobs you're having a laugh!! £599 = $888

Im starting to lose all faith in this company!!!

RIP OFF

Then what's the purpose of the reservation?

"They know how to 'take' the reservation, they just don't know how to 'hold' the reservation."

an employee told me that they do it but don't require you to throw any skin in the game so that they can allocate at least x number of units per store (x being the expected demand/customers who have stated they will/want to buy a phone at that store) and then they'll allocate however many over the expected demand .

Makes sense. They can't ship 500,000 to each store. It wouldn't make sense. But larger stores will have more reservations which = more demand so they'll get more units.

I have to wonder if people are not just simply erroneously calling it "iPhone 4G" due to it being "the one after the 3G", with no clue at all about 3G/4G networks and why the 3G was named such.

The degenerates trying to make a quick buck of buying them and reselling are the ones responsible for a good chunk of the problems. For Apple it's great, a sale is a sale, but for those folks who would actually be using them but got screwed because greedy pigs are buying up 3 or 4 at a time to resell them it sucks big time.

/ordered one
/using one

So...my dilemma:

I'm going to be flying cross-country on the 24th at 7a. Therefore, I can't possibly get one at the store, and wasn't able to preorder.

I will be able to go to a store on July 5th. If I preorder now, it will ship on July 14th.

Should I preorder and get it on/around the 14th, or should I wait and hope that some store has one between the 5th and the 14th and get it earlier?

What's the history with stores getting new shipments in? Is it regular?

At least a dozen people I talked to yesterday truly thought the iPhone 4 for was using 4G technology.

Never under estimate the ignorance of the average consumer. ;)

There will be a lot of disappointed iPhone 4 owners when they get them and realize the phone still uses the same 3G connection as the 3G and 3GS.

it's called darwinism... They should be disappointed in themselves, not the 3g capabilities of the iphone4.

Justification from anti-iPhone/evo/android crowd:
1) 99% of people upgrading are current iPhone users. Well, all 9.9 of them are anyway.
2) Teh steve order them to get in line. After the initial rush no one will want the iPhone whatever
3) Apple, not ATT, had their servers crushed not because of demand but incompitence on there part. There were only three people trying to order the phone yesterday and they couldn't do THAt right.
4) What? No white? LAMEEEE
5) Clearly apple is making up numbers and restricting stock. 600k? Pft. That's nothing.

Yeah 600.000, thats like 0.01% of the phone subscriptions in use.

Preordering doesn't guarantee eligibility, either. You are in the same boat as people with reservations. Read the fine print.

When word of this gets back to Foxconn, the world will shift off it's axis as the collective thud of the workers hit the ground simultaneously!

Just finish my 3 before you head up the stairs to the roof please :D

This is what I've heard too. People with reservations need to stop worrying and people with preorders need to stop trying to make them worried!

Having said that... I wouldn't stroll in 30 minutes before close.
