Chris who? I'm serious - who's he?

I read a few more pages and see post after post by "Moto G" and now I feel sick for responding to this U2 troll in the first place.

Someone mentioned Chris Brown whom "Moto G" didn't know (which is fine) but "Moto G" just replys with a fake "who is he?" post and expect us to take him seriously? Instead of being a normal person and Google-ing "Chris Brown" since "Moto G" is already on the Internet and it would take so much less effort that his "confused" reply he does this?

I happen to like U2's music a lot, but don't really care one way or another about their appearance today. If they are there to announce a (Product)Red phone that would be pretty sweet (even if I am not getting it. Still enjoying my 5s) I would not pay much attention to all the U2 bashing if it wasn't for "Moto G"

If people want to complain about U2, so be it. Again I like a lot of their music, but Bono is a huge piece of crap despite helping so many people through his humanitarian work.

There is a lot of truth in South Park episodes! Just look beyond the silly animation.

"Relevance" also doesn't equal good. So are they irrelevant or bad? And I don't know if you've noticed - they regularly appear on top bands and albums of all times lists.

The inability for the "younger generation" to appreciate them surprises me.

You are just both wrong AND stubborn.

Relevant DOES mean good.... from a corporate standpoint. Old is fine... IF the band was popular, iconic, & resonated for generations. Like, if they had the Stones play- THAT would be worthy of this level of Apple event!
& all the kids could be like: "oh, I get what "I got the moves like Jagger" means now!" =P
At any rate- I think it's the fact that U2, while popular in their heyday, haven't had a NEW single I've heard on the radio for over 20 years, nobody is champing at the bit for their new album, they're NEVER in the news, outside of these Apple rumors & Bono's charities...
It is DEFINITELY a weird choice for the most popular & valuable tech company ever to share their spotlight promoting a band like this.
It's not like a ton of U2 fans were COMPLETELY unaware of a new iphone & now will buy it, is it???
If they wanted somebody politically devisive, they probably could've got Obama if they wanted. Apple is crazy powerful. They could've got almost anybody; ffs- U2 is practically obscure, compared to all the impressive celebs whose agents would trip over themselves to get this level of coverage. You can like or love U2 all you want... argue their relevance all you want, etc. The question still remains: WHY U2???????????????!!!!!!!!!!

...U2 is practically obscure...

Ahem: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_concert_tours (U2 is #1 and #6 on the all time highest-grossing concert tours)

Their last tour was 2009 - 2011: http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/266418/top-25-tours-of-2009 http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/949535/top-25-tours-of-2010 http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/42159/top-25-tours-of-2011 (#1, then #2 the next year and back to #1 in 2011, but that was 3 whole years ago, I guess they are "obscure" now . Wait, let me be fair: you said "practically obscure")

If they aren't your cup of tea, that is just fine, but you can't ignore all the other people in the world who are still enjoying them enough to go see them in concert in such large numbers.

Am I missing something? Why all the hate towards U2? They could have done MUCH worse. in the last 30 years you'll be hard pressed to find a handful of bands that have been more successful. No matter who they add, someone would've complained. Who? One Direction? R5 with Ross Lynch? John Mayer? Yaoband? there Isn't one universal band everyone loves.

Personally I don't care. I'm here for the products. They could throw Ariana Grande up there and it wont sway my decision one way or another.

Maybe MacRumors contributors aren't a fair cross-section of the population, but if they are, this whole U2 thing is having the exact opposite effect of whatever Apple desired.

MacRumors contributors aren't even a fair cross-section of Apple based tech website visitors, much less the general population who may or may not be buying iPhones and iWatches after today.

Please don't preload the iPhone 6 with celebrity photos!!!!!.... of Bono.

Don't like U2? Don't comment and whine about it - there's just no need. What's gonna happen IS gonna happen, and complaining won't alter it.

Simple. :)

These people are so serious on here..life and death with the iPhone:p
Methinks most of them need an enema..

Really, why all the hate?
With all of the absolute crap that is in the top 20 why are people complaining about U2?
As you and others have said, theres not going to be universal consensus on
which band should be at this event.

"Guys, we haven't released a truly revolutionary product in a few years and all we have this time is slightly bigger iPhones! What are we going to do to stay relevant and cool?!"

"Get Bono on the line!"

Please don't preload the iPhone 6 with celebrity photos!!!!!.... of Bono.

Actually all iOS devices already come preloaded with a picture of Bono; it's his silhouette used in the Artists icon in the Music app. I only found that out today.

LOL

Poor Apple fanatics!

They are getting crusty old U2 (U who?)...

Whereas we SAMSUNG and LG fans get

GIRLS' GENERATION and SISTAR

For your viewing=pleasure:

Right... Hyper objectification of a manufacted pop band masquarading as girl power.... So... Modern... Janis Joplin and Grace Slick, were much more modern in 1968... Spice girls did the girl power thing better in the mid 1990s...

Girl groups were in fashion in the US in the 1960s... Guess people there didn't get the memo until now ;-).

----------

And what if you don't like U2?

Depends which one you don't like, their 1981 output is massively different than their 1986, late 1990s output or even their current one. Not liking a band with such various styles doesn't mean much.

Maybe MacRumors contributors aren't a fair cross-section of the population, but if they are, this whole U2 thing is having the exact opposite effect of whatever Apple desired.

The demos here are not even in the same ballpark as Apple's total demos; I can garantee you that.

Wanna make a trade? I have 2-3 hours of a Dave Matthews Band concert that still haunts me and would love to swap for Morris Day and the Time. Do we have a deal?

If it helps you, then it's yours!

I think I can do one of those "turn a can of soda into a million dollars through trading up" things with events.

So, anyone want to trade a DMB concert for a Cure concert and a can of soda?

They are irrelevant and "bad". I like lots of bands from the 40s to modern day. In my opinion U2 are overrated garbage and a perfect example of people being brain washed by marketing.

If you like them then fine thats your opinion but yours isn't the only opinion allowed on U2.

*sigh*
Nevermind... you couldn't get the point if I club you over the head with it.
Seinfeld was the highest grossing TV show - that didn't make it appropriate to have the actors host corporate events...
Idk, who the most "it" people would be right now. Maybe Kanye or something? I do know for CERTAIN that it is NOT U2!!!!!
Do you honestly, in your heart of hearts, feel that this (if true) would net Apple more $???
Do you SERIOUSLY think that a celebrity tie in with U2 would be lucrative to Apple & sell more units???
I do not.
I'd bet my immortal soul on it, I'm so sure.
I think the opposite; that this is the MOST exposure U2 will get to the end of days.... that this is the HUGEST blessing they could imagine, that most performers & celebrities would kill for this chance- and that, sadly (and confusingly), it is COMPLETELY one-sided... Apple has zero gain & only potential loss; whilst U2 has only gain & zero potential loss. It is a head scratcher. It doesn't add up.

They replaced The Edge's brain with Steve Job's brain and he's finally healthy enough to lead the company again.
