Worried about U2's waning relevance, Bono heard "going viral' was a good thing, so he turned his album into a virus.

Growing old sucks.

I'm not complaining about it, but they went about it wrong. Don't auto download.

My aunt called me in a panic because someone "hacked" her iPad when she found U2's album already there. I had to explain that it was an ill-conceived promotion.

Most likely, she permitted someone else to configure her device and settings for her, relying on their judgment as to how it should be done. And, in the end, without thinking, sacrificed independent thought.

He should apologize for making such a weak record. Straight up garbage.

Corporate rock STILL sucks.

are you sure this is correct? on apple's support pages, it lists in order:

"Turn on Automatic Downloads on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

1 Tap Settings > iTunes & App Store.
2 Sign in with your Apple ID if necessary.
3 Tap the content that you want to automatically download. If iBooks isn't listed, you need to download iBooks from the App Store."

i feel like they aren't the default setting based on my experience, but i do know that anything i clicked or checked when i got my first iPhone in 2010 generally holds its setting when i update iOS (or phone itself). i would have to backtrack on my whole argument about how ridiculous people are being about this if what you're saying is true for all new users (or those who have always been, shall we say, 'non-curious' about how their device operates).

Automatic downloads are not the default setting, you must deliberately enable automatic downloads manually. And, in doing so, you will be presented with a page of information (or more) that explains what you are agreeing to by doing so.

I apologize. I was mistaken on that. They aren't on by default.

It's real easy. Just delete. U2 sucks. Same crap, different year. They should have quit after their horrendous Super Bowl performance. But, no, Bono will have an oxygen tank attached to his wheelchair rolling around on the stage. They should take a page from Kenny Rogers.

"You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold'em. Know when to walk away, and know when to RUN."

RUN FAR FAR AWAY!:D

Yeah, I didn't set it up. The Apple "Genius" did.

For those who think this isn't a big deal at all and people are just whiners, let's imagine this hypothetical situation.

Let's say Apple purchased Snapchat for two billion dollars. In order to make that purchase worth it, they want all iPhone and iPad users to start using it. So, they push the app onto everyone's device.

Would this be a problem, or would you simply shrug it off and say it's not a big deal?

Obviously not a big deal. There are numerous apps that are included in the stock iPhone that you can't even delete.

March on, next is Apple. Mom's next for her free broccoli growing up!!

Now realizing that we must all join together in class action, and sue Apple for daring to subliminally program my brain with the use of the Apple logo. If not for them, I might not have been forced to see imagery of apples and therefore had cravings for apples and apple pies, caramel apples, Apple Jacks, apple martini's, apple turnovers, apple crumble, and the spinning apple carnival ride that made me throw it all up and ruin some poor woman's dress and precious iPhone 6+

If only they hadn't forced the imagery of Apples upon me without my specific consent, all of this might have been avoided.

I can't wait for Thursday's "They should have made an A9 chip for the new iPads" and "Why can't they have a 12K screen for the new iMac 27in" hew and cries threads.

Thursday, you say?! That's October 16th Apple Event.

New iMacs! New iPad Airs! New iPad Minis! And according to the conspiracy theorists, it's also when Apple maliciously pushes the new Lady Gaga album to all our Apple devices! Whiners will hyperventilate! Gnashing of teeth shall happen!

Are you ready for….. GagaGate?

Yeah, I didn't set it up. The Apple "Genius" did.

Oh, so you plan to blame Apple? Again, she apparently decided to give up her choice. How funny that people ask everyone else to make their decisions for them, and then complain because they didn't make their own decisions...

Apology accepted. Now go make a better album. (Spoken from a long time U2 fan).

Well, as many have pointed out... it was a choice that you made to have automatic downloads turned on. Every option in settings comes with pro's and con's... and each person is free to choose what settings work best for them. But to choose automatic downloads.... knowing what that entails... and then complain when it happens and saying it is forced... well...
Many of us did not have it appear in our album list. Because of the choice we made. Accept responsibilty.

Can you please change 'automatic download' into 'shove your music raste down my throat'.
Plus I didn't had that option on, it just got copied in my iCloud.

How American to think because it's free it should be respected?

It's like buying a sandwich and the waiter says: "I added mayonnaise, it's free and we all love it here". No is a perfectly fine answer to this pushy marketing strategy.

Regardless of taste in music, gesture, or social likability.

I am not a U2 fan, the last thing I bought from them was 'October' somewhere around 1981. Album was not downloaded automatically because I didn't have the 'option' on. I guess I was one of the very few people in the world not to have 'Automatic download' on, so I actually had to go through some hassle to hear the album. I like the album and I'm in the camp who thinks it was nice gesture on Apple's/ U2's side.

I think the reactions were very outrageous. Reminds me a bit when i speak these days to someone about the iPhone 6 and the standard reaction you get is "ah, so you are gonna buy a phone that can bend".

I was wondering what the "Audible" charge was on my bank statement... how the hell do I get my refund?

lol

At least it was only one album and not their entire collection of songs...

:rolleyes:Oh thank GOD, or else I would have to set my iMac and iPhone on fire.

----------

Really? U2 terrible??? where are u coming from? the only terrible thing is your comment....

Oh look a cute noob telling me I should have same taste in music as his or hers.

----------

Tell that to the hundreds of thousands of people who sell out the biggest venues across the world in order to see them live.

Can not help people who have terrible taste or taste that differs from what I listen to.

It becomes readily apparent that the real problem are those that are so outraged the way they received a free album. I suppose every Christmas goes perfect for you too. I'm sure you get everything you want and the way you want it. All the complainers are so incensed and offended but if they met Bono they would all bow before him. Fake outrage by cowards behind keyboards piling on. You are all no different than the bendgate *******s who promoted a fake scandal because of the herd mentality. Grow up.

I listened to half of the album. It was ok but I'm not U2 superfan so it doesn't matter. You want to know what I did? I kept the album in my 3TB hard drive full of 10,000 other albums I barely ever listen to. I don't feel violated or offended that this album was placed onto my iCloud account. I think it's kind of cool to live in an age where an artist can give away an album to me that I would've never downloaded even if there was a redeem for free button. One great part of technology is discovery and serendipity and this is just another way to discover new music. I wish this would happen more but the internet is comprised of morons jumping on bandwagons and outraged over small oversights by Apple.

It's interesting that iphone users are so intimate with their devices that feel betrayed when Apple puts something on it that they didn't ask for or expect. It really is fascinating but let's not forget that there were no strings attached to this album. It was free and deletable. People should criticize Apple for the 8.0.1 release or the erase settings in iCloud that erased real documents. Jumping on U2 for a free album is sending the wrong message for the wrong reason.

The ultimate "first world problems" is when people come to a online forum to complain about music they received absolutely free of charge or commitment lolol

Good grief....

I feel like calling out every single person that makes gear statements. First, you do not speak for all people... So do not say "people don't want this." Some do. Second, nothing was forced. You had to choose to download it.

Lit was forced onto your account so yes it was.

Oh, so you plan to blame Apple? Again, she apparently decided to give up her choice. How funny that people ask everyone else to make their decisions for them, and then complain because they didn't make their own decisions...

What? I'm not blaming Apple. She chose to have them do whatever they wanted because all she wants to do is get on Facebook, she could care less about the optimal experience. I used the roll eyes to express my feeling about her using the genius instead if learning to do it herself.

Sheesh.

You know that free 10 pound phone book that gets thrown on your doorstep every year whether you like it or not that you have to pick up and dispose of yourself? Pain in the @ss isn't it?

U2 is that phone book.

I cant even delete it--itunes offers to hide it(?). so now i have to spend time to sort this out.

I feel this is more on apple than bono.

Incidentally--no gave anything away. U2 got millions for exclusively releasing on itunes. Apple got some sort of celebrity bump for a tired iphone release.

Two ebbing brands seeking to prop each other up.
