So you consider a company involuntarily pushing data you don't want to a device that you own and have paid for to be trivial?

Think about that for a second, very carefully. What kind of precedence does that set?

How do they know you don't want it? You manually configured your settings to tell them to make decisions for you. If you want to have an opinion, don't manually configure your settings to have someone else make decisions for you.

Wow, the first pop group to apologise for releasing an album. I love it!
Bono looks like someones geriatric grandfather who dressed up to look like Bono because he believed he was Bono. LOL

The interesting thing with this whole fiasco is that if U2 actually released an absolute killer of an album, a 'number one with a bullet' album, then we would have all been over the moon to have received something so awesome for free.
I mean all U2 had to do was give us a good album that they put their heart into and not some collection of bad, uninspired song ideas that all the record labels rejected.

The album should be renamed to "Songs That Made No Sense"

It's not bad background music. I mean, like have it on while doing something else kind of music.

It's not like Apple gave away "Yoko Ono's Greatest Hits - Remixed with Duets with Herself" and put you in a room with it turned up to 11 for 24 hours straight.

Again, if you're concerned about bandwidth, then leave the default settings alone so that you can choose what is downloaded and when.

We'll never get those bits back, and it made him wait for Menudo's Best to be downloaded.

The fact that you were able to tie this U2 download to Obama, proves beyond the slightest doubt that you are completely wrong about everything. Just scrap everything you think and start over-- you've sunk into an intellectual morass you can't escape from without rebooting your mind. Abandon ship.

I tied it to the following statement, which I quoted: "Congratulations, America. You've forced an apology from someone who gave you something for FREE."

You're the one in the morass, chief Gasu.

I'm not complaining about it, but they went about it wrong. Don't auto download.

My aunt called me in a panic because someone "hacked" her iPad when she found U2's album already there. I had to explain that it was an ill-conceived promotion.

That is kind of funny... I had an ftp server using Windows, and someone logged into it and started storing music on it. They structured the directory so I had a fun time deleting it, as it had directories, such as com1: in it.

Heh, I was amused at the time.

I don't agree with the people on these forums that are blaming people for being upset, but I also don't understand why some people are furious. I wasn't happy with it. I don't think Apple has a right to auto download an album to my (or anyone's) devices, but they did this one time. I don't think it should make you angry. Just annoyed.

I love some people complain loudly here about how it's free so there's no reason for anyone to complain about it being forcefully loaded...

and then go to another forum and complain about Android having "bloatware".

well... take your pick. ;)

To me, anything that's forced upon me is NOT welcomed. Next time, post it on iTune it's free, and if I want it, I can download it. Don't insert it to my "purchased List"

It was only an automatic download if people had configured their devices to automatically download all purchased music. It certainly didn't automatically download to any of my devices.

But that is the default. Unaware users will never disable that.

are you sure this is correct? on apple's support pages, it lists in order:

"Turn on Automatic Downloads on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

1 Tap Settings > iTunes & App Store.
2 Sign in with your Apple ID if necessary.
3 Tap the content that you want to automatically download. If iBooks isn't listed, you need to download iBooks from the App Store."

i feel like they aren't the default setting based on my experience, but i do know that anything i clicked or checked when i got my first iPhone in 2010 generally holds its setting when i update iOS (or phone itself). i would have to backtrack on my whole argument about how ridiculous people are being about this if what you're saying is true for all new users (or those who have always been, shall we say, 'non-curious' about how their device operates).

Agreed. And now we're at 300+ posts about the whole apology, four weeks hence.

Didn't automatic download for me, remember I clicked on it. Agree the fury and appear desperate to automatic download.

Anyway, I like the album.

Automatic downloads are not the default setting, you must deliberately enable automatic downloads manually. And, in doing so, you will be presented with a page of information (or more) that explains what you are agreeing to by doing so.
