I don't think its really U2's fault. Apple should have said "Your out of your damn mind." And made it a free download through iTunes. Not an automatic download.

It was only an automatic download if people had configured their devices to automatically download all purchased music. It certainly didn't automatically download to any of my devices.

Nice to see Bono say something.

For those that can't understand the problem, I think for alot of people, the fact that it looked like Apple/U2 doing something on what they consider to be their private property without their permission - crossed a big red line…that frankly should have been way obvious this wasn't a good idea to the Execs at Apple and stopped long before it happened.

If they'd just made it a free download (where iTunes users who wanted it looked it up and downloaded it) it would have been a huge success and PR win…

Saying that as someone who downloaded it and has several U2 albums from long ago.

Obama's America.

The fact that you were able to tie this U2 download to Obama, proves beyond the slightest doubt that you are completely wrong about everything. Just scrap everything you think and start over-- you've sunk into an intellectual morass you can't escape from without rebooting your mind. Abandon ship.

I went to Torhout/Werchter in 1982, to see U2. It felt like a pilgrimage, in a way.

'A Day Without Me' was the soundtrack to one of my big love affairs.

I deleted 'songs of innocence' without hearing more than the ****ed up fragments that survived the live stream disaster. And I'm not planning on hearing more.

Having 'songs of innocence' shoved down my throat without any choice whatsoever was just plain wrong. A seriously bad move that destroyed a 35 year friendship.

This is the kind of response that makes me doubt the future of the human race.

So you consider a company involuntarily pushing data you don't want to a device that you own and have paid for to be trivial?

Think about that for a second, very carefully. What kind of precedence does that set?

Exactly. Suppose they were pushing kkk, black panther or la raza propoganda to you. It sets a very bad precident.

Liked the album and it was free. Nothing to bitch about here. Talk about whining about first world problems. Just sad.

You're right, an app would be different.

But people need to make noise and let Apple know that this kind of practice is not okay.

Today it's an album. Tomorrow it could be an app that you can't remove.

The line has to be drawn somewhere, and that's what this is all about.

You're absolutely right. Something must be done and quickly. It's of dire emergency. If we don't stand up and protest immediately, we're headed for certain doom of having free iPhones, free internet, and omg they might even give us free unlimited calls and texts. We all need to come together and protest now. The alternative is I'd be forced to have more of my hard earned money available for other things.

Grabs pitch forks and hands them out. I will not be forced to live in a world where everything is free. I will rally my brothers and sisters to save the world from ever having such luxuries.

Although the album showed up in your iTunes Purchased list, it wasn't downloaded automatically to your device, you had to intentionally download it for it to "waste" memory on your Apple product. You didn't have to give someone your email or get spam or get contacted in anyway for you to receive it, since you had already signed up for an iTunes account. And it cost you zero dollars. And whether you would like them or not, U2 is still a popular band. Tell you guys what, go to any music web site, list your favorite band, and see what the reaction is amongst all the very brave anonymous people. They'll react just like you are reacting here, telling you that you have poor taste in music and asking how can you like such a crappy band. Or you could just delete it and quit turning ant hills into mountains.

I haven't downloaded or listened to to it yet, and as far as I know I haven't heard any of the songs on the radio. I'll listen to it eventually, and if I like it I'll keep it and if I don't I won't.

How dare you have a reasonable response amongst all this crap?

I didn't like how their crappy album appeared in my album list without my permission. That was forced.

Bono confirmed yet again that he is a gigantic douche.

Well, as many have pointed out... it was a choice that you made to have automatic downloads turned on. Every option in settings comes with pro's and con's... and each person is free to choose what settings work best for them. But to choose automatic downloads.... knowing what that entails... and then complain when it happens and saying it is forced... well...
Many of us did not have it appear in our album list. Because of the choice we made. Accept responsibilty.

Don't forget to thank the next hooker for free HIV.

You see, there you're still missing the point. You still didn't get the HIV for free. You paid to contract... Errr.... I mean receive it. So not a free gift. In your case, you paid for something harmful and life threatening, yet complain about a free gift that was not physically harmful in the least.

Jesus Christ, man. Chill out. It's just a free album.

Nope. But I don't auto sync music purchases either. Apps only.

this whole comment thread boils down to this. users had that little box checked: "push all content to my device - i don't want to filter it myself."

boom. end thread.

Get a life!

STOP whinging and just delete the bloomin' thing if you don't want it! You don't have to listen to stuff that gets downloaded you know. Some folks are truly stupid and just like to moan about everything!

Bono: stop apologising for a great Album. Many thanks for the "automatic" download.

Thanks, I am enjoying mine when I workout. Pleasantly surprised to find it in my iPhone album list. Not everyone thinks it was an imposition.

I agree pushing the new music to everyone's accounts was wrong but really people it is FREE music, was it that much trouble not to listen to it?

Wow, the first pop group to apologise for releasing an album. I love it!
Bono looks like someones geriatric grandfather who dressed up to look like Bono because he believed he was Bono. LOL

The interesting thing with this whole fiasco is that if U2 actually released an absolute killer of an album, a 'number one with a bullet' album, then we would have all been over the moon to have received something so awesome for free.
I mean all U2 had to do was give us a good album that they put their heart into and not some collection of bad, uninspired song ideas that all the record labels rejected.

The album should be renamed to "Songs That Made No Sense"
