Over the past few years I’ve stopped taking the cheapest option and going for customer service instead. Car insurance, home insurance, mortgage, all of that kind of thing… Go for whoever comes top of independent customer service surveys. They’re often only a few quid more expensive anyway.
This is a great rule and one I stick to. A physical address (as opposed to a registered office or PO Box) is always a positive sign too.Personally I find companies like this too much hassle. It’s rather like booking a long haul flight ticket to Australia at a competitive price only to find that you have an 11 hour wait in Kuala Lumpur to change planes.
I’d rather pay more and know exactly where I stand. I have a firm rule too: Never buy from a company that doesn’t publish a telephone number.
