Dude this is old news, it was all over the forum last night and on the o2 website where were you then????. If you wanna make yourself useful and provide us with some NEW information I suggest you get on the phone to o2 and keep pestering them for the price of the 8gb and 16gb Iphone 3G for pay as you go:)

Got a text from o2 about the iPhone being free to upgrade if on £45 or above tarrif,

everyone seen this?

Yes I got a text from them!!
But for us paying £35 or should I say going to be paying £35(because it doesnt matter what your paying just now) they aint doing us any favours

Ok, my previous post didn't go through so I'll try it again.

I have few questions regarding O2 and iPhone and I was hoping you could help me guys.

1) I often text abroad but am charged extra (20p or so) on my £35 Orange contract. Can I get something from O2 so I don't pay extra for sms abroad? I know a lot of countries in europe charge the same no matter where the sms goes. Anything like that in UK (O2)

2) I have N95 with over a 1000 texts which I would like to preserve or preferably transfer either to my computer or on the iPhone. Is there a way to do that? Can I actually save them somewhere and read them later without the phone?

3) Can iPhone receive MMS?

Thats enough for now. I might come back again with more questions. :)
Any feedback is much appreciated.

Thanks

1. Theres a discounted rate service on O2 iphone customers (abroad rates), its called International call service i think.

2. Hmm, probably not, although if you sign up to O2 you can use Bluebook for free which saves all your MMS and SMS messages online to view online at any time which is free.

3. iPhone technically can't but because it has a web viewer you can, get the link form the text message when a MMS comes through and view it in the browser.

I just went on the O2 site and they've got stuff about the PAYG iPhone...My mum works for Vodafone though so my line rental is free, so Im in no hurry to leave. And I can't get O2 signal where I live regardless.

To the best of anyone knowledge thus far could I just buy the PAYG O2 iPhone, throw the O2 sim away and unlock it with Ziphone (pending it gets a 3g unlock)?

Why they have to make it so complicated is annoyin, jus sell the damn things sim-free online and in apple stores and be done with it!

yes ive seen on the web now that indeed they are not doing us any favours....

IMO they are: They would be perfectly within their rights to insist existing iPhone customers see out their current contracts or levy a financial penalty to let people out of them early. I wasn't going to upgrade my iPhone because there isn't much new on the 3G one (apart from 3G and GPS), but for £59.00 for a new 16GB I think I'll go for it: I'm sure I can get £100+ for my old iPhone on eBay from people who want to unlock ;)

Well sorry if i have anoyed anyone but you are wrong. The information was not on the o2 sight till early afternoon! Sorry if you are anoyed but you do need to just calm down a bit!!! It is only a post!

As you can tell people have been visiting the o2 website since yesterday (myself inclusive) finding about the pay monthly tariffs. The only difference was that yesterday you had to add an 's' to the end of the 'http' bit to access the information.

ok I have a UK iphone and am on the £35 tariff. I quite fancy upgrading to the 16GB iPhone 3G. Am I right in saying I can get that for £59 If I agree to upgrade my tariff to £45?

If this is right do I have to have the £45 tariff for 18 months or is it just for another 9 months? Does my contract with o2 start from scratch when I take out the new iphone?

I am basically trying to work out the cheapest way for me to upgrade to the 16GB phone, I am happy with the minutes and texts I get on the £35 tariff but want to know what's the best deal for me in the long run.

Some new confirmed info:

Hello Mark,

Thanks for emailing us to find out if we'd be selling the new iPhone 3G unlocked.

This is correct that new iPhone 3G would be available on Pay & Go as well. However, it won't be available unlocked for another network. This means you'd only be able to use your iPhone on O2 network.

At this point of time, all you need to do is to use the link below to register your interest and we'll drop you a line in early July to tell you what you need to do to be one of the first to get your hands on the new 3G iPhone:

http://www.o2.co.uk/iphone

I hope I've explained this clearly to you. If there's anything else, please visit our online help centre at:

http://www.o2.co.uk/help

Important - When you email us please provide: your date of birth, postcode and mobile number as it helps us answer your query faster.

Kind regards,

Sudhanshu Pandey

Emphasis mine.

I wonder how exactly. Maybe you should email back and ask. :D

O2 is just not a kind store

what will you be getting at apple? they won't be selling iphones!

WHAT?!?!?!?!!?

Does this mean I have to deal with those brain dead O2 sellers?

You've got to be kidding me!

I was there today, the seller was such a deuche bag!!! He was chatting with a friend of his who just bought something at another store. I was waiting patiently for 10min and NO BODY came to ask if I needed any help or would like to sign up for O2. It's not a museum, I've seen phones before!

Finally his friend thought the seller friend of his should attend to his job so he said he should ask me if I wanted something (yeah I'm in the store, naturally I want something).

Then I asked if he could give me some info on the new iPhones and the tariffs, they'll offer.
He replies "11th of July". Unless I've been missing a great deal in my English classes I'm sure that doesn't answer my question.

So I ask politely, if he could tell me about the tariffs. He then starts to give me attitude and says he doesn't know anything (WAY TO GO! What a power seller!). Doesn't even BOTHER to move his a$$ to find out what the tariffs are which by the way WERE online. He was a complete jerk!

This is my 4th visit to the O2 store on Oxford Street, it's also the 4th time I walk out of that store thinking it's impossible, that the store managers in O2 doesn't check up on customer service.

They tell you false information when they don't know the truth and they simply don't treat you very kindly. So, I'm probably going to have to look elsewhere for the iPhone if they don't sell them at the Apple store.

Oh well... Asking for a decent quality control over their customer service is apparently too much to ask for.

Are the people at O2 who draw up tariffs on drugs??? I mean they've introduced a new low end tariff at £30 with only 75 mins and 125 texts??? yet for only £5 extra you get 600 mins and 500 texts!!!

I think that is totally stingy and something like 250 texts and 200 mins would have been much more sensible.

Sorry if someone has already covered this but I wanted to say my piece too.

OH COME ON.... GROW UP..... you're in bluddy London for crying out loud, and if you don't like that one o2 store you've been to 4 times, why not walk 20m down the road and go to the carphone warehouse, or another 40m down the road, and go to a different o2 store, or jump on the tube one stop and go to a different o2 store or carphone warehouse....

I'm oop north, and I have at least 5 o2 stores near me that i could buy from.. you have many many more.. .

stop whinging
