Guys - can I get some advice on this...

I need to buy two base model 27" iMacs - am I better off waiting for them to appear in the stores or should I pre-order...?

I feeling that I've seriously missed the pre-order boat and that it might be a mistake to order now...

Any thoughts?

For me, preordering was the right decision. I placed the order on 12th and delivery is due on 19th (base model, UK).

My 27" base model with Fusion just left China, due UK on the 21st according to Apple 19th according to UPS.
Ordered at 14:30 on the 30th, my original estimate was 2-4th Jan.
I haven't been this excited about a Mac in years!

So... Who in the uk is replacing the 8gb ram that comes with it for 4x8gb?

If you want to sell the 8 that comes with it send me a pm as 16 will do for me and it saves you putting it in a drawer

Pm me how much you would like for it. We can use pay pal as that is easy and we don't give details and I will just trust you send it..

Say £20?

My iMac has finally shipped!

Details as follows;

3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM-2X4GB
1TB Fusion Drive
NVIDIAGeFrc GTX 680MX 2G GDDR5

Ordered at 8:30am (approx) on Nov 30th, shipping notification came through around 20:00 on 14th December. Estimated delivery date is 28th December to Isle of Man (2 F'N weeks!) but that is 3 days earlier than the original estimate I was given.

I'd like to think that is worse case scenario and just Apple covering themselves to avoid disappointing their customers. Fingers crossed it may arrive some time next week.

I'm having trouble tracking anything though. Which code is it should be using to track the package?

Addition Order number?
Our Delivery Reference Number?
Your PO Number?

Same for me. I'm in Dublin. Our iMacs will probably be on the same flight to LHR. I'm using the "Our Delivery Reference Number" to track it on this site http://www.expeditors.com/

Looks like it's due to arrive in London on Tues @ 1600 GMT

You placed it on the 12th?! Was this with the fusion drive, or pure base 27inch?

Unfortunately, there's no TNT flight during the weekend :(

15 Dec 2012 00:41:38 Pudong International Airport Shipment In Transit.

Let's hope our 27" will travel on Monday from Shanghai in that plane:

We'll be able to track it live on FlightAware :)

Ahhh, shame, well I least I can take a weekend off from refreshing the shipment tracker page :D

Safe flight! ;)

Yes i live in Lund so we are very close!
But can you find your imac on any tracking site??

Can't you ship your imac little more north like say Linköping? ;)

Good question, if you just want base model check with your store to see if they know when they will have in stock. :)

Nope just the imac!

Don't know if you missed my edited question about if you bought your imac with applecare?

I'd do it, but I'm afraid your offer is less than even cheap value ram. This is a pair of Apple verified modules. I'd want at least £40, which is still very reasonable I feel.

I'm about to put in 32 Gb into my new 3.4 GHz 27" I'll have 8 GB RAM next week. Problem is I live in Thailand so postage would be £5 and would take about 2 weeks at this time of year, but if you are interested, £25 registered post, pay by Paypal

BTW My iMac arrived today, incredibly fast, super screen, you'll love it

Almost 24hrs since the Shanghai export scan. I have visions of my poor iMac, alone and forgotten in a Shangai warehouse...

It's not alone, it has mine as company :)

I think they will stay there until tomorrow evening when the cargo flights resume again.

My UK order lands at Heathrow in just over an hour on Etihad flight 017 from Shanghai via Abu Dhabi. :) Still quoting delivery on 20th.

According to Expeditors (www.expeditors.com) the shipment weighs 717 kg and is 5.453 cubic metres. How many 27" iMacs in that?

Mine could be anywhere! Awaiting 'Merge in Transit' in UK but

"Estimated Delivery Date (Subject to change) Dec 20, 2012
In Transit to Customer - Shipment on Schedule"

Maybe more on Monday to give me the 48 hours notice of delivery. As usual no tracking if you add Applecare on order.

Oh well...at least there was a small discount on Applecare + less of a temp overdraft when cash-back credit card clears on the 22nd.

Good to hear,msg362, that the screen is 'super' after all the 'negatories' about it.

PS Just succeeded in tracking it:Etihad Airways 867 in London 17.30 today with a 'requested delivery date 15.00 on 17th'.

Maybe delivery prior to 20th?
