Where did you get the info for Argos? I have tweeted them for info and theey said they don't know about website or in-store stock or availability (even just to order).
I'm just staying up to check the site after midnight but i'm not hopeful.
I'm going to be optimistic......
There is no reason why we would be any different to the Asian countries and so orders should start at midnight.
In terms of the site going down. I don't see why it needs to go down for any significant length of time - The lengthy site outages are usually when they are changing contact, adding new products etc. - all of the products are already there and all they have to do is change the availability (presumably linked to stock in background).

Hmmm... To risk a trip to the Tesco Extra store which is about 25 mins away or not??
If not, plan is to either try and reserve through Argos or try Currys/PC world store at 8am tomorrow morning even though opening time says 9am.

No way it's going to be midnight with 9 mins to go unless they don't need to take the store offline!
They've said 8am all along. No where that I saw said 12:01 although we all hoped it would be.
There'll be plenty of stock so chill.
