I'm not sure if this a good thing or bad thing. As it's taken so long to get to this point, I was hoping for a newer, possibly less faulty iPad mini direct from China.

A couple of days here or there is not going to make a lot of difference to what we get I think.

Looks like it'll be yellow tints then. :(

I think they are Sharp produced panels (IGZO or what ever they are called?)

Well I just got an email from the store saying that because of the high demand they aren't going to make the initial delivery date anymore and I can expect it at the end of next week. Odd since I've never had anything like this, but at least they've acknowledged it and a couple of extra days isn't all that bad.

Can someone post if their screens are good when you get them. I've had two so far and both with horrible patchy yellow screens. Lovely device apart from that but the screen is a deal breaker for me.

My 128 LTE should be delivered today. Ordered from Apple on the 12th. I've checked the serial number and it looks like it will be a Sharp panel going by the earlier post. I'll confirm the screen quality when it arrives.

Managed to reserved a 128 silver cellular rMini for in-store pick up today. So about to join the mini display lottery.

Will report back once I've got it.

Mine been on its way from China over the past 36 hours, invoice quotes serial number starting DLXL, so from the above posts that would seem to be a Sharp panel - similar to those who are receiving stock directly from the UK.

As I said above, I don't expect any problems, but let's see.

The ones you returned were these wifi or cellular versions?

Is there any proof in the correlation between serial numbers and display manufacturer? Or is it just some dude guessed and posted in a thread somewhere?

Just received my mini retina 64gb wifi I believe by the serial it has a sharp screen all looks good really pleased with it.

DLXL Screen

There appears to be some correlation between the panel source and the yellow tinting or retention issues:

DMPL - LG
DMQL - Samsung
DLXL - Sharp

Reading the various forums, where there are reported problems, the DLXL sharp panels appear to be more prominent.

Mine being delivered today is a DLXL version according to the invoice. All will be revealed when it arrives!

Mine is DLXL, production week 46, no patchy yellow issue.

Unpacked my DLXLL 128 cellular silver rMini. If I was being fussy there's a SLIGHT yellow tint at the bottom, but nowhere near as annoying as the left yellow tint my air had. Not noticed any annoying gamut-gate

Will bake the screen overnight and see if it improves, but even if it doesn't, it's a keeper.

Overall, very happy.

Mine is preparing to dispatch now. I'll let you know about screen/serial. Sharp screens do seem to be full go kinks though. :(

OK, mine's just arrived. Sharp display as expected, slight yellowing at the bottom but when compared to my other Mini and Air it's hardly worth bothering about (we shall see if I still feel the same way after a bit of use). Generally the screen is a little disappointing due to the color gamut when comparing it to the Air and my original Mini, just seems a little washed out. I haven't loaded any apps of photos to test the resolution difference yet so again time will tell.

Apart from that a nice bit of kit!

I think will add AppleCare+ and that should take care of any ongoing issues in the future.

Good luck to anyone else getting there's today.

:)

Well, rMini (64GB cellular SG) seems to have bedded in fine. DLXL screen which seems good to excellent with no noticable tint. I tested for image retention for 5 mins at 100% brightness and whilst it was there, it faded after a few seconds. That 100% brightness makes your eyes bleed so unlikely to ever be an issue on my rMini.

However...

The ruddy Lightning cable that came with my rMini is faulty! Luckily had two other cables to test the rmini with and they were fine. The faulty cable has a bit more play in the socket and if you move the cable it loses connection. The two cables that are ok have a bit of play but maintain the connection 100%.

On to Apple as we speak.
