In the apple upgrade programme which is 20 months, part of the monthly payment is apple care. If you upgrade after 11 months and hand your phone back in you effectively start again. But if you sell your phone and settle the upgrade programme you get the unused months of apple care back. I have done this and will get £100 back. Do you pay for the 2 year apple care in the first few payments of the contract? I'm unclear why you get an apple care refund.

So why would anyone just hand their phones back in after 11 months and lose the apple care refund?
The cost of the AppleCare is spread across your monthly payments. The amount you owe on the loan includes the AppleCare component of each of the monthly payments and therefore when you settle the loan you are also paying all the remaining AppleCare payments too.

Of course. Simple really. Don’t I feel stupid

If you do settle it’s worth contacting Apple first because they repay the AppleCare refund to Barclays, even if you’ve already settled with Barclays. You then have to wait for Barclays to refund you, as I discovered when I did it.

To be fair, they did the refund a couple of days later, but you can avoid the need by contacting Apple first.

Just been into my local John Lewis to look at the 12 and 12 Pro. They had one of each on display.
First impressions from 5 mins of handling were that the sides are sharp, the screen is bright. Compared to my XS Max, the screen is obviously smaller but not so small that I wouldn't be able to use it (my wife's SE2020 feels tiny, the 12/12P feels ok).

I think I'm still going to wait for the Pro Max but I might be waiting until I can see both side by side to make a decision.

What the heck is going on with my UPS iPhone Pro 12 delivery? These are the updates I’ve received:
  • Origin Scan
  • The package is at the clearing agency awaiting final release.
  • Departed from Facility
  • Arrived at Facility
  • Your package is in transit. We're updating plans to schedule your delivery.
  • Your package is in transit. We're updating plans to schedule your delivery. / The package will be forwarded to a UPS facility in the destination city.
  • We've submitted documentation to a Government agency and are awaiting a response. / Brokerage released the package. It will be processed through a clearing agency before final release to UPS.
🤷‍♂️

I'm waiting for the Pro Max too but would be interested to know how the XS Max compares to the 12 Pro in terms of actual screen real estate. My wife has the 12 Pro and I personally love it. Definitely easy to use but it is noticeable with the edges.

My only smidgen of concern with the new Max this year is that is could be actually too big to easily handle with those new edges.

I've previously owned a Huawei Mate 20X and that was a real beast to manage!

I think I need to head to John Lewis too this week!

Since I got a good deal selling my phone and settling the upgrade programme, hubby now wants to to do the same. I have an iphone 7 to tide me by until the max comes out. Hubby doesn't have a phone so thought he could do without. Of course his cellular apple watch won't work now because its not paired to anything! Pity you cant still send messages etc on it. The calls still work on it though but that's it. The only other phone we have is a iphone 4s and we won't be able to use this with the watch because it has an old IOS on it.

There’s no discount for O2 I’m afraid.
Students can get 20% off but only on a refresh plan with a phone and not on SIM only.
The iPhone 12 models are also not eligible for the student discount on the refresh plan. I tried to apply for it after the phone arrived in the hopes of slipping through the net but was turned down. It seems like I need to wait until they remove it from the restricted devices list.

Obviously the XS Max is bigger but it doesn't feel that much bigger. I think I could live with the screen of the 12/12P but I definitely want to see them both side by side before committing to a purchase.
The downside of that is that I won't get a launch day phone unless I reserve both a 12 Pro and a 12 Pro Max at an Apple store then go in, play with both before deciding which I buy. The Pro Max will be a beast. I think there will be a lot of people who will pre order the Pro Max and then return it for the Pro.

The amusement of the visit to JL though was the guy who insisted he had a 12 Pro Max on pre order with Apple already. The staff were trying to tell him he couldn't do but he was insistent. 🤣

I am hoping it should actually be easier to handle with flat edges as you can get a better grip on it. That’s my hope anyway - otherwise I’ll have waited for the Max for nothing and will join the back of the queue for the regular Pro!

Finally managed to get the 12 pro 256GB with Very this morning. Says it's arriving tomorrow. :D

Moving from my XS max to a smaller version this time.

Anyone know if the Magsafe wallet and chargers are worth the money.

So after sending my 256gb 11 pro off to envirofone I’ve just had an email to say there’s a software problem with front & rear cameras and they have reduced the offer from £575 to £146! I’m waiting on the person calling me back as he thinks it may be an error but has anyone else had any bad experiences?

Right some updates for me. iPhone XS has been sent to Music Magpie and Royal Mail has confirmed delivery so waiting for MM to get back to me.

Now onto EE, I had an initial contract of £16 a month for 200GB, unlimited calls and texts which was initially £23 a month. Luckily I got that down to £16.

Spoke to them again today to add student discount code and somehow I managed to get that down to £10.20 a month! Bargain! 5G included as well and I managed to bag a pair of free BeatsX headphones. Just waiting for delivery for that.

Then thought let me get my brothers account down, he was paying £9 for 10gb data and unlimited texts and calls. Got that down to £5.20 which is brilliant for him as I can just gift him 50gb every month if needed. So essentially he’s paying peanuts for around 50gb a month.

All in all, a very successful morning from EE.

Oh and Hermes now has my Amazon iPhone which I paid £849 for that so waiting for delivery.

UPS have collected the parcel , took a photo of the shipping label before hand and now just waiting for it to be scanned once it hits their distribution centre.

Sounds like they are trying to pull a fast one.

The 12 Pro max is only marginally larger than the 11 Pro Max but I get where you are coming from as a phone of that size with squared edges could be quite a handful. I am ordering the 12 Pro Max because of the larger screen estate but i do look enviously at the 12 Pro and wonder if i could manage with a smaller screen. The footprint of the 11 Pro Max with a case is massive and it will be bigger with the 12 Pro Max. Yesterday, I removed my leather apple case and went naked and my 11 Pro Max felt like a new phone. It was so much easier to hold and operate simply because it was less bulky.
I shall order the Pro Max and if its too much then i will visit my apple store and change it for the Pro.
