Pros:
  • A nice thing
  • Alternative to lightning cables for bedside charging, durability pending
  • 15W charging speeds are better then most other options if you want to charge wireless

Cons:
  • In practise the cable is too short for most user cases (1 meter)
  • You need a 20W power adapter as well, bringing the purchase to in and around £50
  • Feels as durable as a normal lightning cable, so time will tell if they last
Great thanks for that.

I have a 20w power adaptor so I guess that part is ticked off. I have a few vouchers to use that I got from work not sure if it is worth using it to purchase the MagSafe or just something else from John Lewis. Very confused here.

How long did it take? Mine was meant to be delivered Monday but I’m still waiting... it’s not even with the courier yet.
took 48 hours. Amazon updated on Sunday and Hermes got it on Monday. failed to deliver yesterday but they did deliver today. Do you have a serial number on your amazon order? that helps confirm if a phone actually exist under your account.

I’ve seen lots of people mention MagSafe as something they would use bedside for overnight charging. What advantage is that over any much cheaper Qi charger when you’ve got all night to charge? Unless you only sleep for an hour!

I’ve been using a cheap Holife 10W upright charger with the iPhone X, 11 Pro Max and now with the 12 Pro. It has never required any special alignment, I just drop the phone on there, and I’ve always had a full charge by morning.

It just seems more convenient than having a MagSafe puck?

well the phone arrived just doing the auto transfer all seems to be going ok watch paired very easy process thus far

the phone is alot smaller than i thought i am coming from an xs max though
i like it obviously a case will bulk it out more but i like that it can be used one handed while the xs max was always a little too big for me but i got used to it.

I'm keeping it at 849 its a steal i'll see whether i like the smaller size this year and then either stay the same size next year or go for the pro max with the hopeful 120hz refresh rate update.

I do have a larger phone in the fold 2 so now i have the best of both worlds.

Dropped my phone again and now got a nice 3mm scratch on the screen!
are you using a case?
Music Magpie have received my phone and sent payment for full amount. Very happy with how smooth it was.
when did you post your phone to them? I sent mine Saturday afternoon (so probably didn’t leave the post office till Monday) but haven’t heard anything from them yet

You make a number of valid points, particularly about your “cheap” bedside charger serving you well enough. I’m in the same position. Although undoubtedly slower than MagSafe my wireless stand charger has more than adequate time to fully charge my phone whilst I sleep.

When did you send it?
I sent my XR to them at lunchtime on Monday.

Sent it Friday afternoon. Tracking said it had been delivered Monday, I got a email first thing this morning saying it has been received then one 2 hours later saying payment had been sent. I got it about half an hour after.

Thanks, it's nice to have some form of refence to how quickly they do things as I've never used them before.

Would the brick for the iPad Pro suffice for MagSafe?
though it is 18W

I don’t like upright wireless chargers and have had issues with flat ones losing alignment overnight, leading to no charge in the morning. MagSafe would solve this. But I want something sturdier then a puck with a wire hanging off it! Hence waiting for third party MFi solutions.

Yep found a serial number on the invoice.

What’s the score on AC+

Seen many taking the monthly route is there any advantage other no £200 outlay but your paying more overall
I'm going monthly because then I can just pay until I've used my two claims, in all the years I've had my current phone, I've not needed AC and yet it runs out after 2 years, doesn't make sense to me to pay outright anymore.

Taken the plunge - ordered a 12 pro in graphite. Annoyingly not arriving for 3 weeks, though! Going from an XR. I've been debating it for a while and so decided the only way would be to buy and try! Fully expect to return it but we will see.

Is the monthly not slightly cheaper? £7.99x24 works out slightly less than the one-off £200. Also makes it more straightforward if you upgrade next year, no need to claim unused AC+ back.

It's 2 claims per year now, the monthly payments also keep going until Apple no longer supports the device. Which means you are now not limited to a maximum of 2 years coverage either.
I'm currently looking at a minimum of 2 years with my Pro, so the changes are very welcome here.
