Don't think I'd want the hassle of the timewasters when selling something like a phone and would rather take 10-15% less for an easy transaction with apple/MM/rebuy etc.
This is exactly why I stopped selling my iPhones on eBay a few years ago. Time wasters, potential scammers... and those selling fees and PayPal commission. Just not worth it in the end.

can anyone whose sold via music magpie confirm what the procedure is i've boxed it up put it in a big envelope taken it to the post office but if i scan it using the QR code they sent me i can't add special delivery is that correct ?

in the email it just says bag it up and get the post office to scan the code do they pay for special delivery ?

very confused lol

I believe the insurance is included. It takes about 2 days to get to them.

I just gave my packaged up phone to post office attendant and showed them the QR code which they scanned and they printed the label and put it in the post. I was given a receipt for proof of postage. I didn't pay anything. I am not sure what the insurance covers for this type of postage though? I guess paying for special delivery would up the insurance if you prefer

Why people don’t add a gadget protection option (which covers multiple devices) to their home insurance I’ll never know.
Probably since household policy costs are often highly variable. Claim and your cost increases.
The fixed cost, clear T&Cs and no impact across other policy inclusions (since you really should have building & contents cover!) is appealing and sometimes very sensible.

The 12 pro with official silicon case certainly attracts the dust. Because of the lip on the case the dust sticks all around where the lip is.

The silicone cases have always been the same since the 6. Dust and fluff magnets!

....I hate silicone cases precisely for these reasons - they're all lint magnets and the fact that when placed into denim pockets, when you go to pull out the phone with the case, the inside of the pocket wants to come with it too (it grips to the silicone).

👎🏼

Apple's official iPhone 12 leather cases are due out next Friday anyway - much better than silicone.

i had decided to cancel my apple silicone case order due to the general negative vibes I am hearing about the case, but apple dispatched it over night so guess I will get to check it out anyway! Still really liking the cheapo Ringke Onyx so the apple silicone will have to be special to win me over from that. I have used the apple leather case in the past but I am not really using leather products in general now. shame apple don't do a quality pleather alternative!

Does anyone know how I can contact an actual human being and not a bloody robot on Hermes? I’ve had enough with him especially since my delivery was meant to come Monday.

From memory I think you always pay the £69 up front, even when handing the old phone back. The monthly loan repayment assumes that initial £69 was paid. You will certainly be better off selling the old phone either to Apple, via trade-in, or elsewhere. The only potential issue would be the possibility that you don’t get accepted by Barclays for a new IUP loan.

Cheers, I wasn’t sure if the initial £69 applied with the 24 month loan or not.

I think I should be ok with getting accepted for another IUP while the current one is still running cos I just paid off another loan with Barclays for my s4 Apple Watch last month.

The Apple silicone case is the first one I've used - I normally go for the leather ones but since they weren't available I thought I'd give the silicone a go and this is definitely my experience too. An absolute lint magnet!

I'll be ordering the Apple leather case most likely next Friday. I'm in two minds about the Magsafe charger though. I heard these are likely to damage the leather case so will probably go back to using a cable. The novelty is starting to wear off as I use the Magsafe when charging overnight and I don't really see any benefit over the cable - not to mention the potential affect on battery health.

Decisions decisions... 😄

I have just done similar but instead of trading I’ve sold 2 phones to get 2 brand new upgrade programmes. I paid off Barclays myself and I’m waiting for the apple care to be refunded for both. Apple said it can take a while.

If you trade in your phone doesn’t the old upgrade programme get cancelled automatically and apple sort out the apple care refund? Also I’m confused because if you are reducing your monthly payments then you won’t have the money to pay back your old loan because the payment from your old trade will go towards your new phone. You will have to hand in your old phone straight away surely.

I ended up around £330 better off over both phones selling them instead of handing back. I got £130 handsets and £200 AppleCare refund but more hassle.

Yeah I was trying to work out whether it was better over the long term to trade in to reduce the monthly payments on the new phone and pay the existing Barclays loan off myself. Meaning I’m paying more upfront and less per month and looking at where I am in a year’s time. But after doing the sums it’s not really worth it.

Think I’ll wait and chat to them about options available when I go to do the upgrade.

That could happen even when you hand the old phone back in. A credit check is still performed.

Cheers, yeah I said in another reply that I think I should be ok with getting accepted for another IUP while the current one is still running cos I just paid off another loan with Barclays for my s4 Apple Watch last month.

But there’s not really much difference between the impact of the various options over a year when all the sums are done, so I’ve decided just to wait to chat to them about it when I do the upgrade.

I’ve decided to give ReBuy a go. If they don’t agree that it’s “Like New” I’ll hopefully get it back in time to sell it to Music Magpie for the £320 that I have locked in for the next fortnight.
Please can you help me I get £367 for iphone X, but battery is 80% capacity, however it has had a case and screen protector from day 1. Will it still count as "like new" or does the battery have to be 100%. Secondly, can I leave the case and screen protector on? Thanks

The battery capacity shouldn’t matter. It is expected that a phone that old should be in the low 80s. Unrealistic to think it wouldn’t be. I’d go for like new.
