Is anyone making the move to an eSIM this year? Even though EE have improved the process, I don't like that it can take up to 24 hours and surprised they charge 50p for it. I need my phone for work and just to swap a sim possibly taking a full day still seems a bit crazy.

Been in eSIM since 11 Pro Max.

will definitely be on eSIM again this year, I’ll order it today or tomorrow so will have it on Friday.

For me, biggest benefit of eSIM is a thief can’t just take the sim out, although guess you get the dual sim benefit too.

same here couldnt go back to messing about with a small piece of plastic 50p a year well worth it imo

I’ve always shied away from using an ESim mostly as I don’t understand how you transfer it between phones etc..

I’ve been on ESim on Vodafone for the past year and it’s been fine but I have had nothing but issues trying to transfer between phones.

I quite fancy moving to an eSIM.

I don’t really know why, just…
because!

Still on processing here also had email saying there was a problem will leave it a few hours before trying to phone.

It takes nothing of the sort. eSIM is pretty much instant.

On Friday I received a temporary phone from Amazon so I could send mine to Music Magpie

The key thing is YOU MUST have your old phone available and active as EE send an SMS to your old SIM (old phone if it is an eSIM or any phone with the physical SIM in) to activate the new eSIM.

  • Old phone - log in to EE app > Settings > Device and SIM > Replacement SIM > eSIM
  • Choose that you are moving to a new device
  • The eSIM QR code will be shown on screen
  • On new device scan the QR code and add the eSIM (the phone number will show 00000000000)
  • On the old phone click on activate SIM card, it will be there after you have scanned the QR code
  • Wait for SMS to arrive and type in the number (autofill should have the number for you to select)
  • Old device will lose signal and new device will gain signal
  • Turn the line off and then on again and the phone number should update to your number
Mine took no more than 30 seconds to transfer across. It took longer for me to dig out the ejector tool, take the case off, remove the SIM and place in new device for the physical line I have on the device as well.

What’s the process with EE? I was just planning to take the nano sim from my iPhone X and put it i to the 13 Pro. I guess there isn’t much point unless you need dual sims?
Just replied above on how to do it on EE, this is irrelevant whether you are currently on a physical or eSIM, the process is identical.

Those who have been using Apple Silicon cases with previous phones - how do they hold up??

I want to get a Magsafe silicon case (usually just get cheap clear cases from Amazon) but I've read they are dust magnets?
Also sliding in and out of pockets is more difficult since they are quite grippy??

Thank you! I think ill just keep my archaic physical sim for now as i can simply put it in the new phone and continue without bothering EE.

Always enjoy these threads and I'm back to an iPhone for having taken a break to see other phones :D(Samsung note / fold2)...Just completed my trade in with Fonebank and the £600 will be going towards the pro max 256gb that I will be picking up friday morning. It really cant come quick enough as I've had enough of the galaxy a22 5g I've been using since I sent my fold to be warranty repaired and then sold on!

I've gone the whole hog and already got my dark cherry leather case and the spigen ez fit sceen protector ready and waiting; roll on friday!

The first 2 hours of this week have already dragged 😭

Really wish I’d booked Friday off now to play with my new toys but I suppose just not doing any work is a solid plan b

I already had Thursday and Friday booked off work this week so release day has fallen quite nicely :)

I'm not sure over the next couple of days I will get much work done though.

I’m just glad I’m working from home Friday, so don’t have to come up with some alternative strategy to get the phone delivered…

I am surprised to read here this year that people are having issues with their pre-orders using Apple Pay. I thought the whole point was that with the extra security and multi factor approch it would prevent these sort of problems...hopefully next year it is smoother for everyone that had issues.

Whilst for most of us it would seem a clear an easy way to purchase, for most high street banks, not many people spend over £1000 on a card on a regular basis.. probably even less through a mobile payment platform. All banks are risk adverse and a transaction like this would flag up on automated fraud prevention system.

Seems to be a history of a few banks stopping these type of transactions each year.

No need to bother EE, all done within the EE app. like I say dead easy, took me 30 seconds, was quicker than moving the physical SIM!!

Which colour device have you gone for? I can'd decide which to go for with the Sierra Blue.

EE on Twitter told me any changes that impact the SIM or network service could take up to 24 hours, although it usually doesn’t take that long. Glad it went quickly for you, but I am still not comfortable it could take a day.

I paid on AMEX if that helps.

it was saved as my default card in my account during the pre order process.

I've been using eSIM since it was available on the XS phones.

Pros:

Allows for more than one number to be used: I use it for work and personal, so only one phone to carry.

It's more secure than a physical SIM as it stays on the device.

Cons:

It's a faff to setup.

It's not convenient at all if you have lots of devices you move to and from.

Personally, if I didn't have the need to run a work and personal number on the same device, I would just stick with a physical SIM.
