I’ve got a dslr in a box somewhere… and that probably sums them up for me. For me the the phones take great shots and I hardly ever print. The convenience of having something in the pocket is perfect for me.

Picked up a gimbal too and they’re great for really good looking video too.

It’s crazy how the photos on the iPhone X were great and even in the short time that’s passed since it’s release, the quality of the cameras has grown massively.
👍
End of last year I printed a book of photos I had taken during some trips through the year.
I was astonished by the quality of the prints… (And those were taken on an iPhone SE 2022)

The quality of images from my iPhone 13 Mini is even higher.

I really believe that unless you are a serious hobby or pro photographer the current high end mobile phone cameras will do more than just good enough.

Astonishing tech.

I am a Pro all day long 😎.

Debate should be to get Pro or Pro Max.

I use to love Plus and Max sizes until 11 Pro Max but I find them too big for my pockets now.

Sticking with regular Pro this year as well.

Pro Max’s come in handy when your getting older and eye sight a little iffy

I have a vision problem so need bigger texts. The funny thing is that for the same text size setting, the pro and the pro max actually give the same text size on screen, the pro max is not bigger. I was surprised when I tried the normal pro to realise this and so did step down to the 12 pro to try the smaller form factor. ultimately I moved back to the max for the 13 because the larger screen is useful when also using the accessibility zoom. I am somewhat tempted by the 14 pro though as the smaller size definitely has some usability and pocketability perks.

“The best camera is the one you have with you”. That for me always rings true - I’ve dabbled with owning DSLRs and mirrorless cameras a couple of times and always end up selling as they just don’t get enough use. Yes the photos are better (especially fast shutter and autofocus makes a bit difference) but they are not THAT much different that I feel like I’m missing out too much with using my iPhone. And I always have my iPhone with me, which I wouldn’t with a proper camera, so can be much more spontaneous

With you there!

Used to be a serious DSLR hobby enthusiast. I opted not to take my DSLR gear with me on my honeymoon to Thailand as I didn't want to be that tourist and I also wanted to be able to enjoy my honeymoon. This really didn't go down well with the Mrs, who wanted the best photos I could take but for me to also be present on the honeymoon...

My then iPhone 6 did admirably and I have hundreds of photos from our trip that I look back on fondly - a mixture of fun and artistic images. Had I have taken my DSLR with me, I'd have had some really nice artistic photos, but I doubt I would have nearly as many of the fun, in the moment shots as the DSLR simply wouldn't have allowed for those quick snaps.

I sold up my gear shortly after we returned home and I've not lusted after another DSLR since. Even Canon and Nikon - the two SLR and DSLR heavyweights - are conceding to the dominance of smartphone cameras and are winding down DSLR production to concentrate on mirrorless cameras.

Just seen this tweet calling the the 14 pro max a ‘brick’.. will he sticking to the pro again mr thinks

Meh - I'm hoping the design is something awesome. The existing leaks, make it look very similar to the 12 Pro. I'll end up upgrading like doing every year, I just feel like these new iPhones since Face ID is missing some cool tech. I do love the Samsung flip phones, hope Apple will deliver soon!

I wonder if my iPhone 14 Pro Max has already been built by the Foxconn assembly line?

I’m sure production would have started by now. Will be either the 6th or 13th for the keynote meaning phones being delivered 16th or 23rd!

A month of production sounds right

September 6th would be so nice. I really hope Apple doesn't make us wait till September 23rd. There's no reason for all that :)

For anyone who got last years phone with the Barclays 0% and are planning to do the same this year, will you pay off the loan early or wait to get the new phone and then pay off the first loan? Not sure if it’s possible to have 2 active loans so was planning to pay mine off end of this month but won’t actually sell my 13 pro max until I have the 14 pro max in hand. If it’s not necessary to pay it off early then I may as well keep the money in my account!

I’m pretty sure last year it said something along the lines of you already have a phone on finance, do you want to trade this in and then start a new agreement. You then essentially started again and sent the old one back, paying any difference if needed!

Not sure how financially viable it was though compared to selling it elsewhere.

Pretty sure you can have more than one loan.

I upgraded to the 13 Pro last year and waited until it was delivered. Then I packed up my iPhone 12 and sent it to Music Magpie who paid me the then going price, which I then used to pay off the loan on the iPhone 12 and allowed me to pocket the difference.

As MrJM said, Apple's system will detect that the phone you're looking to trade-in is on Barclay's finance and will present you with the following options:

  1. Do nothing - take out an additional finance plan with Barclays on the new device whilst continuing to pay off the old device
  2. Trade-in the old device and use the value to pay off the balance of the Barclays finance - any surplus value is credited back to you (as a gift card, I want to say?)
  3. Pay off the balance of the Barclays finance yourself and trade-in in the old device, which will then go towards the new Barclays finance loan as a deposit
Just be aware that Barclays finance has been known to be quite strict. Some have reported success with more than one Barclays finance loan in play at the same time, whereas others have been rejected whilst they have an existing Barclays finance loan active (also amongst other criteria).

I went with option 3 for the 12 Pro Max and 13 Pro Max. I paid off the loan separately and in less than a day, Apple's system recognised the trade-in device no longer had finance against it.

Thanks. My concern is that Barclays might be fussy plus I assume apple trade-in doesn’t give the best price? So I think I’ll pay my current loan off end of this month then there should be no issues.
