Music Magpie - ABSOLUTE CROOKS

I know others have had good experiences but I have been well a truly conned by them and now out of pocket by a huge amount.

I sent them an immaculate iPhone 13 Pro Max, I mean absolute mint condition, almost as perfect as the day I bought it from Apple. High-quality Tourras screen protector installed on the day I purchased it, always in a shockproof case, I even had a camera lens protector installed as I am so OCD about my tech. Never dropped and never mishandled, literally no scratches on stainless steel case apart from normal "micro Scratches" and even they were minimal. If I received my iPhone as refurbished I would have been made up - hell it still had 100% battery health.

I sent it so highly packaged - in the original Apple box which I taped shut, that was wrapped in bubble wrap and taped, then placed in a box and parcel taped within an inch of its life.

After rather suspicious delays between delivered status and they received it and after an inspection found the screen chipped, scratches on the screen, and a crack. Offer reduced from £700 to £143 as they deem the damage that bad. When challenged they have shown me photographic evidence and I can swear that the screen they showed was not the screen that was on my phone. My screen had zero scratches due to the screen protector and no chips - I closely inspected it at the point of despatch and polished it with a lint-free cloth. I reiterate that it was the definition of mint condition. Further, it was so over-packaged that I cannot see how it could have been damaged in transit.

I am devastated (strong words but it's how I feel) - I have zero recourse as they claim that's the phone they received (possibly it is but something amiss has happened in the meantime). There is nothing I can do but reject their offer and receive a damaged phone back that I swear has a screen on that is not mine. Resale value is now hugely impacted, this is not the phone I sent them, and I am out of pocket by a huge amount. They will not entertain any liability and just say that's the phone I sent - the IMEI number matches.

What can I do - seems to be absolutely nothing.
This is terrible. I have my 13 mini locked in with MM for £365 but after reading this I think I'll sell to CEX who are offering £330. For £35 less I think it might be worth it.

Might just return my Series 8. Judging by the reviews, no difference whatsoever. Crash detection is useless for me and the temperature stuff probably wont apply to me. Only valid reason for me to buy would be resell value for the S9. Might just stick with my S7.
Why would you even order the series 8? It was obvious it was barely different from the 7.

Whilst this is horrible to read, the vast majority have had no issues using MM (I’ve used them for years without issue).

End of the day, do what you’re most comfortable doing

Do you hand your iPhone in at the store? I've had an email for mine and it says they are sending out packaging and I have 14 days. Is that normal practise?
Yea i have to hand it in store, i thought id have to do the 14 day package too.. first time ive done trade in with apple

Ok that's a bit too extreme! Haha! I remember going to Regent Street for the m2 MBA and everyone at the Regent Street applauded me and others as we walked in. Never felt more embarrassed in my life 😂
Know what you mean I had that at Watford a couple of years ago as I was 2nd in the queue and the staff all lined up and clapped and cheered as the first few of us were allowed in 😂

I feel for you and agree (after using MM a number of times in the past), I will not be using MM again for anything.

Oh man - I’m planning on doing a smartkiosk drop. Was there anything that you think triggered the devalue??

Other than a long delay waiting for a technician to log in and the machine looking really dirty inside, no.

The phone was pristine, ReBuy just bought it for full price, I described it as "as new" front and "very good" back and frame (there were a few tiny little dots visible under torchlight on the frame in one corner, probably a bit of grit in a case at some stage).

The biggest difference was my locked in price was 384 and the price on Monday was only 335...

Does anyone have any experience with amending their tariff with EE after already preordering?

I want to change the plan I opted for but obviously don’t want to cancel and reorder to go to the back of the queue.

I just cancelled my iPhone 14 and ordered a 256gb model from Currys IPhone 14 pro. I was upgrading from the 13 and the 14 isn’t much of an update. The smaller gb model was showing October so I went for the larger model as I’m running out of space anyway

One for the techies - see my previous posts regarding screen damage to iPhone sent to MM which looks like a completely different screen to the one I sent them.

Previously I used some software whereby you connected your iPhone to your PC and got a full breakdown of components, I remember checking who was the manufacturer of my display. Does the iPhone create any sort of log if a component is replaced/swapped out with time and date information? Basically, and it's a long shot, could I see if a screen had been swapped in my iPhone during the date range it was either in transit or delivered to Music Magpie? I know Apple log a lot of info so possibly they might log this?
Sorry to hear about your experience with MM, that's pretty rubbish :(

Occam's razor would probably suggest it was damaged either during transit or during unpacking by an employee, or they've mixed up your phone with another of the same model - going to the trouble of taking apart the phone (especially with the adhesive etc. which is now required to change an iPhone screen), swapping in a damaged screen and then claiming you'd sent a damaged phone seems a little unlikely. Probably easier to invest time in contacting their management, calling them out on social media, etc. although appreciate it's hard to do without concrete proof of your own.

Those who’ve got hour long timeslots from DPD - do I need to ring them for this?

You don’t usually get the one hour slot until the morning when parcels loaded in van.

Some carrier phones (not apple.com) might have the option to upgrade your delivery to a pre 12pm etc which is usually chargeable
