Now imagine that you are travelling on holiday to a foreign country… You are stuck with an e-sim only iPhone.
You don't speak the local language very well, you have no local ID, you have no local bank account…

What could go wrong?

I'm keeping a phone with a physical sim for quite a few years yet.

Seems wise... Apple might force our hands next year though.

At the moment we get the best of both worlds though - make your primary line an eSIM, then when you go abroad pop in a local SIM card in the tray. Agreed though once all eSIM then it will be more challenging.

Well that’s it. Picked up my space black 256gb pro max from the apple store this morning. Updated to 16.01. Restored from a backup and paired to my watch. All went smoothly. Now I wait for the AWU and Airpod Pro 2’s to arrive on Friday.
Just love these pre-release forums and can’t wait for next year. Thanks @Jinjin.
Guys it’s been a pleasure as always and hope to see you all next year.

Just noticed that all my limited edition challenges from 2017 onwards have all disappeared from Fitness.

Seems like the data transfer process across from my 13 Pro didn’t like them 😕

Went into store and EE esim is finally sorted - my watch still isn’t working though and it took weeks for them to sort my watch esim last year so hoping will be easier this time..

One thing I did find strange when calling EE yesterday was how critical the guy was of iPhones - telling me Samsungs don’t have this issue or no one in the tech team has an iPhone - it didn’t really bother me but thought was odd - I’m sure a Samsung with an esim on EE would of had the same issues!

I’m deliberating whether to get the AirPods Pro 2. I don’t use my current pros that much, and the last few months I’ve spent a lot on new Apple goodies - my M2 Air and iPhone 14 PM. I might wait until Amazon have money off them.

I’m on a Vodafone SIM Only tariff and I’m thinking of switching to eSIM, although I don’t really know why… 🙄
I switched from a physical to an e-sim today with Vodafone. You get an e-mail from the confirming the sim swap which says that it will be completed in an hour or up to 24 hours. However, if you don't get the second e-mail with the QR code within a few minutes, something's probably gone wrong. it's basically a five minutes process when it works first time.

I didn't get anything for a few hours and resolved it with their online chat system. You basically ignore the automated chatbot thing and type "message an advisor" a few times to get through to a human. The agent checked the account and said my transfer was flagged as complete - which I confirmed otherwise. He then took the EID from my phone and manually activated it. Took about three minutes. Last year you would have been lucky to get through to someone who knew what an e-sim was. They're much better now. Meanwhile, O2 will post a QR code (really?!)....

Why does the data transfer switch to 5 g instead keep on wifi?

They will push Samsung phones as they make more profit on them. iPhones have very low margins, which is why you don’t often see them on good deals with the networks. They always have better offers on Samsung phones. But it’s quite unprofessional for them to say that.

Why did it take so long to transfer the eSIM on your watch?

Just had DPD pick up my mini for rebuy. I told the driver I wanted to take pictures of the phone in the box and he said ok then just slid it into the box! This is all I got. At least he took a photo but only of the front of the phone. I took some pics myself with todays paper.

DPD collected mine as well but instead of putting the phone inside the cardboard box thing, he just put the phonebox inside the packaging that they sent. Hopefully shouldn't be an issue. Made a rookie mistake of not taking pics of the phone so im hoping it's not gonna haunt me.

Has anyone managed to successfully use the MM smart Kiosk on a weekend? I don’t really have time during the week.
Yes I did this morning, had a 20 minute wait for an agent, it timed out and I clicked try again and after 5 mins it was all done and I was on my way. I did however get a donging headache from the racket at the checkouts in Asda.

They will re-appear over the next day or so, at least that’s what happened to me when I last swapped phone

DPD having an absolute nightmare, delayed until Tuesday now, phoned customer service apparently one can’t pick up from the depot any more. Apparently they are having some resourcing issues, they Are going to try to get it out today but I’m not hopeful.

are you yodel in diguise!? Lol

Just out on a walk and the difference in the screen brightness in daylight/sunlight, to the 13 pro is amazing.

Even with the Sun, beaming on my phone screen is still so clear, bright and easy to read

What’s people’s thoughts on going naked with AC+? now it has unlimited repairs at £25 a screen? never broken or lost a phone but always had a case on. kinda wanna enjoy it without a case but interested to hear others thoughts
Is the AppleCare monthly payments a new thing on iPhone? I pay £3.99 for my S7 (and have had it replaced after a particularly drunken night out where I managed to deep scratch the screen 😅), so it’s worth it. I’m tempted to do the monthly payments for my 14 PM.

EE do an insurance product that includes AppleCare services. Might take a look.

Yo All Dads ...

When is the right age to get your kid an iPhone.

My one and only child turns 7 on Halloween. Thinking of getting him one lol.

But his mother is totally against it.

Not sure if I’ve done something different this year but hardly any of my passwords seemed to transfer to new phone. Anyone else?
All fine here (phone to phone transfer) .. just had to do the passport photo thing with Chase the others were easy

Mum here (!) .. a mum that is not YOUR mum! (🤪) .. our eldest waited longer as she didnt really know what it was but younger one had iPod so the phone was really a natural progression. If it was happening now though (mine are 21 and 18 now!!) I’d get them an SE to start with or maybe the 13 mini while it’s still around? They’re solid devices and it won’t be the end of the world if something happens to them!

I'm gonna try the MM Kiosk later today I think - otherwise I'll go on Tuesday. Will make a video too!
Been at this stage for around 10 minutes

Edit: oooh it timed out!

Apple introduced the monthly payments last year. Think it’s about £10 for the basic cover and £12 for the theft. You can cancel any time.
