I've got the Apple magsafe wallet.
I carry my driving license, an Amex credit card and a MasterCard credit card (not everywhere takes Amex). That's all I need.
Can't remember the last time I actually took anything out of the magsafe wallet though. I Apple pay for everything and all store cards I need are in the Apple wallet on the phone.

I think that is similar to me - debit card, Amex and then my season ticket for football so I don't forget it. Everything else is in Apple Wallet.

Regards AOD, does anyone elses AOD completely turn off at some point during the night? Last 2 mornings when I've woken up I've had to tap the screen to bring the phone back to life as the screen has gone completely black. Is this normal?
Same here. I don’t use sleep focus or any other focus. I wear my Apple Watch when sleeping, so maybe that has something to do with it. But sometimes I’ve noticed the AOD turns off when my iPhone is charging on my vertical MagSafe dock. The conditions in which it turns off are all very vague.

What I did noticed yesterday was when I left my room, I came back in and the AOD turned back on (I was wearing an Apple Watch). That’s very clever.

I backed an AirTag wallet on Kickstarter (SnapBack Slim Air), but like you, I’m now Apple Pay for everything.

I moved away from my Apple Watch a couple of months ago, to a Withings Scanwatch Horizon (which I’m really happy with), so now I just use my phone.

I do have a Curve card (which acts as a front end card that uses an app for you to set which of your cards it charges to-except Amex).

I’m a chauffeur, so I keep that and my Starling business account card in my car for car parks etc.

I used to keep the wallet with the AirTag in the car with me, until I realised it was pretty redundant as I always use AP, so it lives at home in my bedside drawer! 🙄 😃

[Edit] - Wallet…

I use Curve too. Though I don’t really use it as much as used to. I did upgrade to Curve X with the special rate they offered of £1.99 for 12 months.

Even that has made the transition over for me now 😂

To save battery life, the display is completely dark when:

  • Your iPhone is lying face down
  • Your iPhone is in your pocket or bag
  • Sleep Focus is on
  • Low Power Mode is on
  • Your iPhone is connected to CarPlay
  • You're using Continuity Camera
  • You haven't used your iPhone for a while (your iPhone learns your activity patterns and turns the display off and on accordingly, including if you set up an alarm or sleep schedule)
  • Your iPhone detects that you moved away from it with a paired Apple Watch (Always-On display will turn on when your Apple Watch is close to your iPhone again)

Bullet point 7. If your asleep it’s more than likely that.

I'll have to get used to it! Or take it to a phone shop and compare to the devices in there I suppose!

Trust yours to be perfect 🙄😂

Maybe it is just my AppleVision, Apple couldn‘t ever do something bad could they 🤔😂 I bet it comes down to hundreds of things, from the background you use, the text type/ colour, the angle you’re at the normal brightness you use, the light in the room…………………

There is quite a big difference in the AOD brightness if you have your normal brightness at max compared to min.

Yeah I’m kinda thinking it probably realises I’m asleep with all the data, and turns off accordingly.

Same here - the Wallet fits three cards well if only one has embossed numbers.

Standard for me is an AmEx (physical credit card for places that don't implement ApplePay properly - looking at you Tesco), driver's licence for occasional ID, and a non-embossed debit card in case I need cash (never do these days).

Haven't used a larger wallet for years now. It is a slight hassle changing cards about sometimes (e.g. access cards when going into the office) but it's worth it for the size and convenience for me.

Haha! I honestly feel like mine is way too dim to glance at on the desk comfortably beyond the clock. Like I wouldn't be able to see the music widget or read a notification without basically looking directly at the phone closely, which turns the screen on anyway?

It's making me sad and seeing so many people complain it's too bright is just confusing the sh*t out of me, it couldn't be any dimmer without being off for me!

I'm calling mine the Barely On Display.
Interesting! Just spent the last minute or so playing with the AOD and I think you might be on to something. I actually think the widgets/clock could do with being a tad brighter - it's the wallpaper I want dimmed further! At arms length I can just about make out the widgets...

Anyone on here got any experience with the MagSafe wallet? I am tempted but wonder if I am just wanting to spend money for no reason.

I have a nice Umbria leather case and was looking at the matching wallet.
Because I was unsure how I was going to get on with them I bought a few last year from AliExpress. I paid like £3 each for em (non-apple logo, obviously). To my surprise I really liked em! Because I don't use a case, the MagSafe wallet provides better grip which is a bonus.

As a concept and as a thing to use, I recommend em. I don't think I could ever bring myself to pay £60 for it though. I'm considering a MOFT wallet instead to upgrade to this year.

My AOD is just about right provided I use a dark wallpaper. With a light wallpaper I find the AOD a bit too much. I normally run my screen on the dim side with auto brightness on so maybe that’s with the AOD is also quite dim. Most if the reviews commented it was too bright so I wonder if the day 1 update helped a bit.

I don’t use the widgets on the lock screen though as I don’t find them particularly useful

Today my iPhone 14 Pro Max had an always off display. Not sure what happened, if I pressed the side button and up volume button it would vibrate, but I couldn’t see or interact with the screen to turn it off.

I had to force the phone to restart by pressing the up volume button followed by the down volume button and finally holding the side button until the Apple logo appeared. After forcing the restart it has worked fine. I just hope this is a software bug and not a hardware issue.

We’re definitely going to be seeing iOS 16.0.2 this week. Lots of bugs to fix.

I have twice had the situation where when the phone has woken after hours of being asleep the display has been almost too dark to read. Corrected it by going into settings and just touching the brightness slider.

Remember those days!!

My mate and I were absolutely buzzing for its release! Back when apple releases were quite exciting and something to look forward to
My favourite release along with Apple Watch 0. The queue was buzzing in Liverpool, like most of the country I imagine

Today's 14 Pro battery situation is definitely positive so far. Took it off charge at 8am, been using it on and off all morning checking social media etc, the AOD is on and the phone is still at 100% 👌🏻 What trickery is that?
