Nope, US get preorders first, whereas we wait until 8am? That’s why I was a bit confused but as long it’s available for me then I’ll be happy

Come on now mate, surely you must understand there’s an 8 hour time difference due to the different time zones involved. The preorders open at the SAME TIME everywhere.

I doubt anything will change. There will be new phones in September 2018 maybe the lower end LCD model and then an S iteration to the X. Those I say will launch in same month. There will also be a larger variant of the X which will probably ship later*

IUP is touted as ‘get a new phone ever year’ rather than get a new phone the day a new model comes out. Those on IUP will have to wait until they’re eligible for an upgrade.

Not that I’ve read this anywhere in the terms but people ‘could’ Pay off the remaining balance to Barclays by selling their handset privately and then starting afresh? I’ll do some checking on that when I get a chance.

(*these are complete guesses on my behalf)
Suppose one can hope by next year supply will be in a better spot than it was this year. Still by doing the upgrade program this year chances are you would have to wait a month maybe until you are able to upgrade.

Well I’m back in the Apple store, turns out the uneven display on my second 8 bothered me enough to try exchanging for a plus this time.

I’ve never had a plus so intrigued as to how I’ll get on.

I have to wait in this shop for 40 minutes apparently for a specialist... would be good if they implemented some virtual queue system whereby you could actually leave the shop for a bit and come back closer to the time they can see you.

This time I reserved a phone in advance to save the “scrabbling around for stock” thing I had to go through last time.

Honestly if this one has a bad screen too I’ll just go back to my 6S for a month or so and hope the dodgy batches dissipate.

Edit: hoping my credit score is good enough to take the second hit...!

Pretty sure they text you when your appointment is near, so you can go off if you want, less that is reserved for just genius appointments?

Considering the 50% decline in sales of the iPhone 8/8+ in comparison to last year's 7 thus far, I don't think the amount of people wanting an iPhone X will be more than 60% of last year's sales... it gives us some hope if sales for the 8/8+/X are up 10% over last year's 7. The problem lies if sales are actually up 50%... then, we've got little to no chance. Just going to be sitting on the app and my Mac hoping to get an early order in around 8:02.

I'm going Space Grey to match the iMac Pro and iWatch that I'll be getting. I've basically been saving all year to update my Apple products. My phone is an iPhone 5 (barely going, but still able to charge thankfully, despite a broken connection port), my Mac is a 2011 MacBook Pro (already had to replace the GPU, SSD and RAM), and I currently have no smart watch - they're a luxury that I'll hopefully be able to enjoy soon.

Looking forward to upgrading, and then leaving a similar duration of time before my next update, which will likely be around 2022... crazy when you think about it like that... but makes your investment worthwhile.

Waited a whole hour, now the guy said changing from an 8 to a plus on the iUP isn’t really anything anyone in the store knows how to do

Since you are still in the 14 day return window, can you just return the 8 and start all over again? You may have to be willing to just do the return today, but it's not like the 8 Plus is hard to find for in-store pickup if you need to go back again this week (or maybe as soon as tomorrow)?

Great. Share the links and I’ll add to the FAQ
Question is though don’t apple send you a mail that you are able to upgrade how would you go about doing it the year after? Guessing might give you an option to reserve and pay the remaining balance.

I don't think I could manage with 64gb as currently on 256 and my 128 6s before that was full to the brim. Most of my storage taken up in photos. I would consider a clear out to drop to 128 and save money but since that isn't an option on the X there is no point.

Would it not be cheaper getting a 64gb then paying £2.50 a month for 200gb iCloud storage for your photos.

He worked it out in the end

The 8plus is amazing on first impression, but really feels huge after the 8!

My loan approval was borderline I feel though so no more credit checks for Martin for a good couple of months!

Anyway more importantly the screen seems ok on this thing so far, touch wood!

I'm quite suprised that theres a second credit check as it isn't your fault you had to return the product why don't they just replace the one thats defective with a new one without a credit check they may have to alter the information on the credit agreement ie the different iphone but that shouldn't need a new credit approval.

What would happen if you had 3 or 4 defective iphones they would credit check you 4 times ?

I guess they are cancelling the agreement and then starting afresh. Must be the case when changing model as the loan amount is different. Each credit check regardless of success of if you even take out the credit leaves a footprint. I’d assume Barclays have tighter criteria for iPhone compared to, say their credit cards, given the demand from a variety of ages and background who would want a phone over owning a credit card.

Am I correct in thinking that I can use the 2.4A fast charge port on this 13 port USB hub for a wireless charging pad? I'm guessing this won't be able to support the fast charging when it's available?

Full Speed Charging
Fully mains-powered via a 5V 12A Power Adapter, get plugged in immediately with smart plug and play and hot swapping right out of the box with no drivers required. One smart port utilizing intelligent AIPowerTM Technology enables full-speed charging (up to 2.4A) for any connected device including tablets.

iPhone 8/8+/X Charging

Both the 8 and X will support Fast Charging and Wireless Charging

What is iPhone Fast Charging?

The science behind it

  • Watt (W): Total power and capacity of either a battery or an adapter.
  • Amps (A): The current at which power can flow between a charger and a battery.
  • Voltage (V): The amount of power being pushed from an adapter.
When you charge an iPad, iPhone, or computer, you're resupplying its battery (measured in watt-hours) from a power source like a wall outlet, usually via an adapter. That adapter controls how much power you can get (volts) from that outlet, and the speed at which you get it (amps). Those two factors multiplied result in the adapter's total available power.

Remember it's not about total watts — it's all about the amps and voltage. Modern iPhones and iPads support charging up to a current of 2.4A at 5V, while older devices charge around 1A at 5V. To get the best adapter for your device, you want one that charges at the appropriate amps (1-2.4A) while supplying the right amount of voltage.

A 5W iPhone adapter will pull just 1 amp at 5V, for instance, while USB ports on a computer can deliver 0.5-2 amps, and the 12W iPad adapter can deliver up to 2.4 amps.

The new 29W USB-C Adapter is special because it supports 5V charging at 2.4A (~12W), but it also supports USB Power Delivery for compatible devices, which allows them to charge at a much higher voltage (14.5V) and lower amps (2A). Because the amps are lower while the voltage is higher, it's more efficient from an electrical standpoint and offers more power to devices that can take advantage of the technology.

What do I need for the iPhone 8/X?

To get the Optimum Charging times for your iPhone you will need the 29W USB-C charger and a USB-C to lighting Cable.

Its likely that 3rd party chargers and cables would work too.

Wireless Charging

What is iPhone Wireless Charging?

The new iPhones will support wireless charging using the Qi (chee) standard. Qi wireless charging uses inductive charging technology, which involves two coils of copper wire (with a core of iron) - one in the device you are charging (or in a caseattached to that device) and one in a pad or mat on which you lie the device. When you put the two coils next to each other an electromagnetic field is created and that allows electricity to be passed between the two coils. While the two devices need to be touching or within very close proximity, the coils can be sealed within the devices.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone X only support up to 7.5W for fast charging (Fast wireless charging is enabled with a free software update coming later this year.), but the latest Qi 1.2 standard actually offers up to 15W.

A suitable wireless charging device would need:

  • Qi - sounds obvious but it needs to support Qi
  • 7.5W of power. Some devices out there support less
  • Wall adapter - make sure the wall adapter you use with the wireless pad supports the speed you are after. A 7.5W pad with a 5W wall adapter will only charge at 5W.
  • Future Proof - the current Qi standard (1.2) supports charging at 15W. this years iPhone only support charging up to 7.5W but its likely that next year's phones will use the latest standard. You might want to buy a wireless pod that you won't need to change in 12 months time if you're a annual upgrade.

AirPower
You might just want to wait a bit. Apple showed off a new wireless charger, called AirPower, that’s set to launch sometime next year, which is expected to be able to charge an iPhone, Apple Watch Series 3, and AirPods simultaneously — typically, chargers can only power one device at a time. It’ll also use a Lightning cable for connectivity, which as mentioned before is useful for iPhone users. Plus, Apple is working with Qi to integrate AirPower features into the Qi standard, so it’s possible we’ll see new third-party chargers with similar functionality not too farther down the road.

Would a higher powered Charger damage non fast charge devices?
The short answer is no. Modern devices are built to only accept specific amp levels, so even if you plug your iPhone into an unsupported adapter, you'll only get the bare minimum the adapter supports (either the 5V/1A or 12V/2.4A charging spec).

When is the Keynote?
Apple sent out media invites for its annual iPhone-centric event that will be held on Tuesday, September 12 at 18:00(BST) @ the Steve Jobs Theater at the company's new Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California.

Where can I watch the Keynote?
The Keynote can be streamed online here on apple.com.

Where can I watch a replay of the keynote?
The replay of the keynote can be watched online here

What time do pre-orders start?
The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus pre-orders will start on Friday, September 15 at 08:01(BST)
The iPhone X pre-orders will start on Friday, October 27 at 08:01(BST)

When is the official launch?

The iPhone 8 and Plus will officially go on sale Friday, September 22
The iPhone X will officially go on sale Friday, November 3

Should I pre-order from the desktop store, or mobile app?
Historically the app is has been more stable when pre-orders first start, compared to the desktop store.

Can I reserve for collection in store?
With previous launches there has ben an option to reserve for in-store pickup. After the official release day there has also been an option to check stock at individual stores and reserve.

How do I know if stores have certain stock available?
last year @l3uddz had a great little php application that integrated with PushBullet and sent push notifications when certain stock was available. I'll update here if it gets working again this time around.

Further details to be added.

Will my iPhone 8/8+ order be delivered on the 22nd of September?
This will all depend on any stock constraints. If you are lucky to get in a pre-order and the estimated delivery shows the 22nd, then you will get your phone on that day. If the shipping dates start to push out then you will have to unfortunately wait. Apple's estimated delivery dates are pretty accurate but they have had recent history in bringing forward some orders which has missed the initial launch day release

Will my iPhone X order be delivered on 3rd of November?
It is widely expected that stock will be severely constrained at launch. If you are lucky enough to get a pre-order confirmed with the date of 3rd Nov, you will get your phone on release day.

Is there a limit to how many iPhones I can order?
Apple typically imposes a limit of ordering 2 iPhones per Apple ID.

Will my order be delayed if I order a case/Apple Care with the iPhone?
In the past, people have experienced delays in receiving their orders if they order any accessories along with the phone. It is recommended that you order the iPhone separate to any accessories to avoid the potential delay.

Once I pre-ordered, Apple placed a hold on the funds in my account but released it a few days later without taking the money. Is there something wrong with my order?
When you pre-order from Apple and pay by credit or debit card, Apple will at some point place a ‘hold’ on the amount with your card company. This checks you've got the funds, and stops you spending them. However, a hold only lasts a few days, after which time your card company will automatically make the funds available to you to spend again. When you see this happen, it is nothing to worry about, it DOES NOT mean Apple has cancelled your order. Apple will not take the money out of your account until the day of shipping.

What courier will my order be delivered by?
On past releases, people who have been lucky enough to snag a launch day pre-order are likely to have their orders shipped from Syncreon in Hinkley. These deliveries and then usually handled by UK Mail and UPS.
Orders which have missed the launch date typically come direct from factory via UPS.

My order has been shipped with UPS, how can I track it?
On your order page there will be a tracking number starting with ‘1Z’, simply copy and paste it into the tracking box on the UPS website and it should display your tracking results. Please note that tracking numbers may take some time to become active.

My order has been shipped with UK Mail, how can I track it?
If your tracking number starts with '309', enter it into the UK Mail Tracking Page. Entering your post code is not required, however if you do enter it then you'll be able to change your delivery date or select to pick your order up at your nearest depot. If your tracking number doesn't start with '309', select the 'Customer reference' option and then enter your tracking details along with your post code. UK Mail should text you with a one hour delivery window, and you can view delivery progress online.

My order has been shipped with Syncreon, how can I track it?
Enter your 'Delivery Number' in the 'Order No/Delivery No' box on the Syncreon tracking page, and your Apple order number (starts with W) in the ‘’Web Order No’’ box. If your tracking number starts with '309' you will then be able to track it to delivery on the UK Mail Tracking Page. Please note that tracking numbers may take some time to become active.

At the moment I have an iPhone 7 128 GB. I am thinking about I will buy iPhone X, but I don't know which model would be better for me.
The first:

The second:

What is the different? Only the internal memory size, or anything else also?

Just the storage size and colour to decide. Otherwise they are identical

Got my 8 Plus 256 today. I'm coming from a 6 and this is just as incredible as I thought it might be. I feel totally at peace about not getting the X as well. I think this screen will actually prove to be better and battery life will be better according to Apple's own specs.

I wasn't initially interested in wireless charging but now the idea of using airpods and wireless charging and never plugging anything is intriguing.

sorry i didn't notice that difference yes i can see why an additional credit check would be required if your wanting to use more credit then before and choosing a different model. Barclays are very stringent as JinJin said i have a friend who works for barclays and even some employees of the company can't get them lol

I wonder if the finance deal with Barclays is working for Apple as they expected. Barclays are really strict on loan deals. I was playing with iP8+ in my local store today (killing time) either side of me where two people trying to get a iPhone both failed the credit check.

Yes, they're normally quite strict especially when it's 0% p.a.

LOL, how is the screen better? The quality of the display on the X is way better, because of OLED and the screen resolution. iPhone's LCD screen is good and the best LCD panel on a smartphone, but OLED is in a completely different league. The screen resolution on the X is twice that of the 8+.

Also no, the battery life on 8+ wont be better than the X. The X has a bigger battery than the 8+ to help compensate for the extra power draw and also offers 2 hours more battery life than the iPhone 7. The battery life on X is same as on 8+.
