I generally consider the verge reviews to be the most 'accurate' in terms of how we will live and interact with the phone in the real world, and Nilay isn't usually afraid to say if something isn't great.

I just watched the verge review, and it was good for what is a < 24 hours experience review. Nilay said implicitly that FaceID wasn't flawless and didn't work well in some situations.

All in all, much better than most of the other god awful youtuber reviews that popped up over the last day or so from excited kiddies who just focused on the animojis.

Eveyrone is going to use animojis for about 5 minutes sending them to their friends and letting everyone else have a go, and then drop it, in the same way all us Apple watch users sent dick drawings to each other when it came out and never since.

I agree, I still think landscape mode is not going to be great until at least many more apps are updated take take the notch into account and even then I don't know how it will really be in reality

I've got an appointment in Birmingham for Friday morning to upgrade my 7 Plus to the 64gb X via the IUP. Can anyone please confirm the changeover process in store, and do I need to do anything myself beforehand (eg log out of iCloud, Google etc) to protect my data/passwords etc? Many thanks in advance.

Reading The Verge's review..my only concerns are the inconsistent Face ID in some lighting conditions and the videos being smaller. Hopefully the former can be improved with software updates and the latter...well depends on developers.

I think most of us accept that Face ID is first gen tech.. similar to the first Touch ID on the 5S.. that was not perfect and it took iterative refinements to get it to what it is (was) today.

The OLED also, all new to Apple and as much as they have done their lab testing, when its in the hands of the millions they'll really learn about the pros and cons.. next year it will get better, and the following year better still.

Enjoy the ride of being an early adopter!

though I saw a comment on this early, but is health/watch data now store in iCloud?

I'm going to be setting my X up as new.. been a few years since I've done this and see it as a good opportunity to do some app house cleaning.

it would be a shame to lose the ability to know how many steps I walked back in october 2015 :)

that is true...though for the price of the phone, was hoping it would come close to perfect. touch ID in its current form is really amazing. I told myself this will be the last time I put more than £1000 on a phone, but next year again I will be doing the same.

As for the OLED - expect Apple to not drop the ball on this. I always preferred the LCDs in the 7/8 Plus to the OLEDs in some Android phones..whilst some colours may not be punchy, they are more accurate and text is nicer to read on it. From initial reviews, seems that this will be the case. Kudos to Apple!

Europe thread; and I know Europe is a bad word to some, claim from ‘inside sources’ we could see date movement in the 13/20th range today.

Could be a token comment as we could any day, but eyes peeled

My Apple leather case has also arrived. I think it looks very nice - the buttons are plastic rather than leather covered. The plastic buttons feel and look better IMHO. The pic includes my Apple iPhone 6S case for comparison.
EDIT - as bronksky points out, the buttons are probably metal

If you go to iCloud settings on your phone, you should now see Health listed as an option. Make sure it's turned on and you should be OK, but obviously keep your old phone available to do a backup/restore if it doesn't work.

I agree with you about setting up new. I replace my phone every 2-3 years (3 years for the last two updates) and it is a great opportunity to have a good sort out.

I want to do the same when I receive the iPhone X setting everything as new.

But how do you transfer your Contacts, SMS and whatsapp?

The important one is Contacts. I have multiple phone numbers per contact. Will be easy to transfer?

yup, all set then I think.

I'll still do an encrypted backup to iTunes in case I want to go back.
