UK iPhone 4S preorders start delivery 15th

Not a chance. If you preorder today you're probably looking at least 2 weeks. Even people who preordered immediately after they started are unlikely to get it on launch day.
:O thx for advice... guess I should just go as early as possible into the apple store (brent Cross) on Friday and hope to get one on the day...?
Good luck. The Apple store in Brent X is small. They may not get a lot in stock.
soz for asking a lot of qs, but what exactly do you mean by fairly early? i.e. if the store opens at 8, so i should get there at 6-7?
I foresee big queues at the central London Stores so the out of town ones are your best bet ... although you run the risk of low stock. Getting there early would obviously be essential.

Why do you say that with such certainty? If my status doesn't change today, I am going to join the hordes queueing outside my local Apple store (i don't think it will be that many given the limitation in the eyes of most casual observers that the form shape has not changed compared to the 4) and buy one tomorrow. I am not staying without a phone all weekend as I sold my iPhone 4

Mine has just changed to Shipped in the Order Status section of the Apple Store. Not received an email yet, though, so maybe log in and check and yours might be on its way too.

Finally... shipping notification email has arrived... Expected to be delivered on or before 14th October.
Well, take it for what it's worth, but I just called Apple (admittedly got through to somebody with an American accent), but I was told that the "rumor" of no iPhone 4S units being in the UK is completely untrue, and that they fully intend on shipping BY (i.e. before) the 14th. Naturally they will not get around to shipping all of them today, but so what? It's just a phone people, most of you here already have an iPhone anyway... Certainly not worth me signing up to a locked phone on a contract or standing in line at an Apple store for the slim possibility that I'll walk out with one. Just be patient.
I pre ordered within hours after it opened on the 7th, yet items have been processing since Saturday with "dispatched 1-2 weeks" and "delivers 21st-28th", is this normal because I certainly didn't expect a three week wait when I ordered on the first day :S

I also pre-ordered mine on the 7th around 11 AM UK time and my order has not changed since then. It remains as "Processing items" and with an expected delivery date of October 21-28.
Hopefully it will change to "Preparing for shipment" on Monday and delivered by Wednesday at the latest, but I am not very hopeful.

Just checked my account and mine has changed to too. I was going to go to Bluewater and see if they had any stock.
My order has also changed to "Preparing for shipment". Wouldn't it be nice to receive it tomorrow? Meh... Wishful thinking.
