You have to activate.but you don't need wires/USB as it should come with ios 5 if you follow instructions (simple)
If you have wifi access you can activate without iTunesHow do you activate it? is it done when you plug it in to set up the phone via itunes?

Thanks Daneoni, I'm looking into that. Is it really as easy as they say it is? ie Walk into a Vodafone store and ask them to switch a regular SIM to a Micro, and they just blip your numbeer across?
Obviously, I'm keen to get my iPhone activated today...
