Problem with Orange is they won't unlock the phone until you've been with them for 3 months, and you can't do it yourself as there's no jailbreak out yet.

Unlocked 4S, transferring number from O2 Simplicity to 3 PAYG.

The transfer goes through the next day, I receive calls fine, but Settings >> Phone is still showing the original number from the 3 SIM.

If I call someone, they're seeing the wrong number. It also seems to have messed up iMessage, which was working fine before the transfer went through.

I spoke with 3 and was told to give it a couple of days to see if it resolved itself, but I don't have much faith ;) In the meantime, is anyone familiar with this issue and how to fix it?

Yes, I think I can help here, I just fixed the exact same problem on my wife's 4S last night, she was porting in from Vodafone to 3.

The problem is that iTunes and the handset have picked up the temporary number you will have been given until your original number ports over. Thing is, this temporary number is actually held as a "special contact" on the SIM card, and you can't actually change this using an iPhone. Even though the SIM works ok for incoming calls etc, this contact/number doesn't change on the SIM when the port process actually takes place and continues to screw things up for outgoing calls and messages etc.

What you will need to do is take the SIM out and put it into another handset that supports editing of these special numbers. (I used my wife's old SE C905). On the SE handsets, you have to go into your contacts, options, more, then I think it was listed as a Special number, or similar anyway. If you edit this number to your correct O2 number, then pop the SIM back into the iPhone and do a sync, this should hopefully cure your problems.

Hope that helps, as it took me a while to get to the bottom of it. I reckon 3's support will be getting inundated with folk complaining of this same problem! :)

EDIT: I see another member has posted a similar answer previously, but my above method is something you can do yourself without having to speak to 3 about it, which could be a challenge in itself from my experience!

Called my nearest apple store and they said if it says unavailable that means they just havent recieved anymore in since the release date.

Having just rung 10 of Apple's stores in UK, none have any 4S phones in stock, and 6 said that had not received any since last Friday.

Cant understand why Apple are keeping their stores so short of stock. I cant believe they don't have any available given all the hype recently about how many they were producing a day.

Possibly holding them for other launches?

Their Reserve and collect system doesn't seem to be working - last night no Apple store had any stock at all, so we will assume system glitch. Be interesting to see what tonight brings

I ordered mine on the 7th and it still says processing items...keep on refreshing everyone 30 minutes hoping the status changes. I hope it gets here on Friday or before, delivery says 17th-24th...fingers crossed :(

FINALLY!!! Preparing for shipment!! I thought this would never change!! Ordered on the 7th also!

At what time did you order and which shipping estimate do you have?

Ordered on the 7th at around 11:30 PM, initially got the shipping estimate of 21 Oct - 28 Oct then shipping time changed last Friday I think to 17th - 24th. Then about 10 minutes ago when I checked, it is now on the Preparing for Shipment status. :)

Thanks, and did you get the confirmation e-mail right Away? I ordered a bit earlier than you and just got the confirmation e-mail on Monday!

EDIT: Preparing for shipment too here, YAY!

Mine's due to be dispatched in 1-2 weeks and delivered from 26th October - 2nd November :( I only ordered mine on Sunday though.

Update after a few days of ownership.

Still Camera = Freaking Awesome.
Video Camera = Freaking Awesome.
Speed = Struggling to notice the difference at the moment.
Siri = Pain in the ass. Annoying. Makes me want to throw my phone out of the window.

ordered 7th evening and still hasn't shipped yet. Says ''processing items'', to be delivered between the 17th & 24th october

quite weird!

Just been doing a search for pay as you go iPhone 4s's still available and seems like Vodafone still has all of them in stock (PAYG). Has anyone ordered any from them? I understand you can simply unlock the phone for £20. That would bring it in line with the cost directly from Apple... advantage is that it says on Vodafone's website that delivery is between 2-4 days. Think this is accurate?
