I have bought lots of Apple stuff in the US and had the warranty honoured without question here in the UK.

Have you had this happen with an iPhone?

Apple's computer warranties are international - the only product that I understand is country specific is the iPhone. Having said that, one of the things that always impresses me with Apple is their leniency with the warranties - having said that, I have been at a Genius Bar when someone was told that they weren't covered cos their iPhone was from Italy.

Just a quick question re delivery.

On the pre-release info page on the Apple site (UK) it says delivery is free, or you can choose express delivery for a fee.

If you pre-order a 4s tomorrow (and it doesn't show a delay), are Apple guaranteeing delivery on the 14th to your door?

The Apple site also says:

"Pre-order from 7 October for delivery beginning 14 October." (bold, underlining by me) (notice the very Americanised way of missing "th" off 7th and 14th...very lazy!

It says, beginning, not on. Is that significant?

Depends on how quick you are in ordering. If the initial stock gets snapped up, then you'll have to wait longer for delivery.

Yeah the pre-order is £20 and you get it back when the phone goes through the till!

You will still be able to pre-order but you will have to go through the new "early upgrade" process. Which is basically paying off your existing contract but you get a 30% discount on that. That's if you want it as quick as possible.

I would wait until 2/3 weeks before your upgrade is due before you preorder, by that time your phone will be in stock in time for your upgrade, and then you only have to pay for the phone If you go on a lower-end contract. I envisage the phone being free from £50 per month.

Prices for the PAYG variant haven't been released yet but I'd expect the same prices as the 4 e.g - £509 + £10 top-up.

Thanks for all the information mate!

what are the chances of me waiting til the end of october and buying a new iphone 4s 16gb reckon itl be out of stock i know no ones psychic but guesses?

I believe the phones are an exception to that. When the original iPhone came out around 4 years ago Apple had signs in all of it's store stating the warranty was only valid in the country or purchase/origin. As far as I'm aware this still applies. That said some people claim to have had their phones serviced/replaced in other countries.

32GB.... but white or black... That, is the question!! So torn between them. Black looks professional, but white looks fresh! Then again, everyone has a black one, but the white one can looking "toy-ish"...

Argh, decisions, decisions...

I'm in this exact dilemma! The hours are ticking down and I don't have a clue which I want!

the white is horrendus, get the black then if you wanna look stylish get thos japanese cartoon covers which hands on iv seen are really cool, unless they do iphone in blue, purple or red il stick with black

That was before every model sold had the "world phone" chips in them.

Before it was an issue because the GSM bands used here in Europe are not the same as the ones used in the United States. Plus you had the CDMA models to contend with. Now that the iPhone 4S has only one model with one modem that functions on every cell band in the world, there's not going to be multiple different models.

Ergo they don't really have a reason to refuse to honor the warranty since every iPhone 4S sold anywhere in the world will be identical from a hardware standpoint thanks to the universal modem.

I've been going back and forth between the black and white one. I've got a black iPhone 4 right now and have seen the white one in store. I do think unlike the white iPad 2 the white iPhones look a bit cheap and dare I say it plasticky. I think I'm going to go for the 64GB black one.

remember you can always install a skin on it to make it any colour you like, eg making a black one white, it's not perfect but if you are going to use an (ugly) case then it's pretty seamless

I am pretty sure this is not the case - up until the Verizon iPhone, all iPhones were the same. The iPhone supported European and Japanese GSM bands as well as AT&T bands (an iPhone would work on TMo USA, but only on their 2G network.)

Do we have an indication of when pre-ordering is likely to become available in the UK?

The store would be down by now if it was happening at 12.

Not necessarily. The iPhone 4S is already displayed on their site but without the pre-order options. It's not like we don't know what the new product is. All they have to do is update the page to include those options.
