Australia Preorders haven't got online so it must be a synchronous launch. Expect it 8:01am.
Good catch! Seems strange.. wouldn't it make more sense to make it 12:01 AM in the respective local time zones? Think of the servers... a global launch at the same time means ALL launch countries the world over try to preorder at the same time. They must be confident they can handle the traffic. There's no other explanation.

That's the beauty of purchasing from apple store.

It's fully unlocked and open to all networks.

Just have your network transfer your current number and tariff to a microsim and after about an hour you should be good to go.

As said just check what data plan you have as the iPhone shouts out to be logged onto the net.

The same thing happened last year and they couldn't handle the traffic. They probably don't care that much though as it is going to sell anyway.

if your contract sim via your employer is with o2 for example, can't you just buy an o2 iPhone 4S?

why would you buy a phone thats £499 possibly £599 via 02 that locked onto a single network, when in theory he could buy it unlocked get his sim card cut and put into the iphone 4s and if he even wanted to go pay as you go with the cheapest sim card ever called giffgaff, then why would he even consider buying an 02 iphone!!!!

I don't imagine demand will be as high as it was for the iPhone 4 launch last year. And supply should also be better given there was no redesign. This is what I'm hoping anyway. Could be naive of me.

I just want to clarify something.

If you pre order from the online apple store, does that mean you cannot select a carrier and plan? it's just unlocked and sim free?

I'm on O2, so the only option for me would be to go to an O2 store on launch day? as im guessing you cant select a plan/carrier on the O2 website.

You can pre-order 2 ways.

Pay for a device outright and have it delivered.

Reserve a device for store collection on day of release.

im hoping at least some of the space in that data centre theyve built to be able to store all the iCloud data will go to extra servers for better bandwidth and load balancing to handle all the pre-orders! :D

"No redesign" is a bit of an understatement. Ok, that last sentence is an understatement. While it's true that there was no external redesign, the internals are brand-new and very much thoroughly redesigned. I see your point though... the external parts should be ready to go and available aplenty, so production should be much smoother this time around. Let's hope it really is like that.

Where do you get the bold part from?

Also, I wonder what the better option is in terms of getting the phone sooner. If they only start shipping on the 14th, it won't arrive until after the weekend. With an in-store pickup reservation, however...

I remember when I preordered the original iPad in Switzerland. I placed a preorder seconds after the preorder went up on the store (was sitting there hitting refresh until it showed up) and I actually received it in the mail on a Wednesday. The store launch was on a Friday. I got it a full two days early. I'm sure there will be cases of that with the iPhone 4S as well.

For me, I will get the 32GB iPhone 4S.
Since I don't call/text much i'm going to take advantage of T-Mobile's sim only deal where you pay £15 and get 12 month internet data free.
Also topping up £10 a month you get 100 minutes or unlimited text for free for that month and you get to keep the £10 (so if I do top up I will get 100 minutes and use the £10 for text whenever I need to).

After a whole year, i'll probably switch to Giffgaff £10 a month deal.

If the sim free iphone 4s will be £499 starting price in the UK will it be cheaper for me to buy it in the US?

Apple products are usually shipped in enough time to reach you on or before the release date.

Doesnt look like SIM free iPhone 4Ss are being sold in the US on release. Only subsidised phones on contract.

That's how it's been in my experience so far. But I only have the original iPad to go on. Never preordered anything else before from Apple. I'd say you're dead on with this claim, though.

32GB.... but white or black... That, is the question!! So torn between them. Black looks professional, but white looks fresh! Then again, everyone has a black one, but the white one can looking "toy-ish"...

Argh, decisions, decisions...

While we're waiting... is anyone getting Applecare+? From what I understand, it *must* be bought at the time of purchase of an iPhone 4S. You can't buy it later as usual with Applecare.

And Apple is very vague with their phrasing of just what's covered with this.

AppleCare+ for iPhone extends repair coverage and technical support to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone and adds coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage due to handling, each subject to a $49 service fee.

Does that mean it covers broken glass? What about water damage?

Not always the case - I remember quite a lot of us in the UK on here last year with the iPhone 4 launch had got pre-orders in within the first few minutes which had gone through fine and we got an estimated delivery date of launch day. But then a couple of days before launch, we got these:

Revised Delivery Date

Thank you for purchasing the new Apple iPhone 4.

We are currently preparing your Order for shipment.

Your delivery address is in an area where our carrier transit times are slightly longer. We expect to deliver your Order after the 24th June.

You will receive a Shipment Notification when your Order is dispatched, which will provide you with more specific tracking information.

And we weren't people living in the remote corners of the Scottish Highlands, most of us lived with 5-10 miles of large towns or cities; I think one person even lived in Manchester City Centre! In the end mine turned up on the Monday after the Friday launch, and went straight back as I'd been able to pick one up from the Apple Store on the Saturday.

What doesn't help with Friday launches is if you don't get it then, you've got at least 3 days to wait over the weekend.

There is no mention of AppleCare+ on the UK site, just standard AppleCare. So you probably won't be able to get it even if you wanted to.

This is the way it worked last year when i pre-ordered 2x iPhone 4 32gb for in store collection. In store we sorted out our O2 upgrade contracts as well.

Thanks for the information. I'll be pre-ordering my iPhone 4S 16GB Black tomorrow then and pick it up on Friday!

Has that launched yet? I can't see it on the UK store.

My sister lives right next to the University of London in London and that's where I'm having mine shipped to. Smack in the middle of town, in other words. So I'm not worried on that front.
