Decided to go for the 4S, (from 2G)

Pretty much made up on -

64GB model with o2 on their 12 month contract (existing customer)

upfront is £209.99 followed by 12x£52 - after which will drop back onto cheap simplicity tariff and wait for the 6

3 aren't offering the 16GB online (at the moment) however. But it's a good deal for the 32GB version.

(35 x 24) + 189 = £1029
1029 - 109 = £920
920 - 599 = £321
321 / 24 = £13.38

So practically you're paying £13.38 each month for 2000 minutes, 5000 texts, and truly unlimited data with tethering allowed. I know you're being locked into a 2 year contract but this seems like by far the best way of getting the phone and a decent plan.

It does seem like potentially a lot of faffing but that is a rather good deal. Three have a fabulous network (I have their latest MiFi and the bandwidth and latency are exceptional for 3G/HSPA+).

I went for an unlocked handset as I didn't want any hassell and I already have GiffGaff which costs me £10 per month for more or less all I can eat calls, texts and data - although it doesn't support tethering.

----------

o2 tariffs are up and they are cheap!

http://www.o2.co.uk/iphone/iphonetariffs/

If you can afford the up front cost of the iPhone 4S - GiffGaff works out a lot cheaper.

e.g: 16GB iPhone 4S over 12 months:
£429 phone + 12x(£21+£6) {calls + texts + internet}
= £681 (100 mins, 500 texts, 500mb)

or
£499 phone + 12x(£10) {one £10 goodybag per month)
= £619 (250 mins, unlimited texts, unlimited data + extras like freephone nos, free gg 2 gg calls, etc).

Tesco might be worth a look in, especially for PAYG later on. You can get QuidCo/TopCashBack that way as well as oodles of lovely clubcard points :)

----------

Someone done a spreadsheet last year on Google Docs outlining the pricing for all the network providers.

I've just started one now - if you want to contribute, go ahead... anyone that wrecks it will be banned from editing :D

If working on other networks, please skip loads of lines and we can move them up at the end.

Cheers Jack - it's looking good :)

If anyone wants to give a hand that'd be great - is it possible you can start by inputting information or preferably making the document a bit more organised?

Right now it's like finding a needle in a haystack.

Hi,

I am going to do my fast track upgrade with O2 and just want an idea to what time the queue starts to build.

Anyone on here who was in front 10? If so what time did you arrive before store opening?

I am tempted to just go to Apple store but as I have to pay fast track fee there and then, I'm a little hesitant to do it in Apple store as although they have gateway system, I'm not entirely convinced that there won't be any issues processing payment, then upgrading! :D

I would like to share my experience with you, having queue up last year for iPhone 4 in o2 store my best recommend time would be before 7, last year I went to cannock o2 stock at 5 in the morning to my surprise I'm not the first one I'm the forth soon after 7 people starts to fog in the queue up to very last moment there is about 50-60 customers some ain't so lucky at the back won't get a chance to buy them, so basically before store open, they announce how many iPhone they have than it is first come first serve they will give you a ticket for it, the moment you step in, while you were waiting they show you to new iPhone blah blah blah and so on.

O2 seem to be only ones with a proper full plans for the 4S online (inc. the 64GB version).

HOLY CRAP these contracts are expensive.

With my 32gb iPhone 4, I got it from Tesco Mobile (haha I know, but they are running on O2...).

It was a 12 month contract, £299 upfront for the phone then £35p/m for unlimited data and texting and like 900 minutes or something. No tethering or visual voicemail though, and limited access to the hotspots the bigger networks offer their customers.

Wasn't great to be fair, but at least data was bundled in! O2 charge for it seperately!? Since when did they become like the US carriers?!

O2 suck this days the new plan is crap u basically need to add data at an additional cost. Last year I join the 35 quid plan and it has 300 min unlimited txt and 500mb, 3 is so much better I pay 25 quid and get 2000 xnet 5000 min 3 to 3 and best part unlimited data + tethering, I have 2 months left with o2 time to say bye bye after been with them for 4 years... Best is to buy the phone out right than get sim only or payg

Interestingly, if as I am planning, use the One Plan from 3 (£25/month - rolling contract) with my sim free 4S the total cost will be the same as the buying the 4s with their 24 month contract at £35/month. Although with the quidco of £109 the latter is cheaper, the other deal would allow you to change network whenever you wanted so go for whatever deal is best for you I guess.

If you want tethering then the above is the only way to go IMO.

So if you're going the giffgaff route, what's the best way of picking up an iPhone?
I suppose it would be to go back in time and order one as soon as they went up?

At least I'm already on giffgaff, I guess.

I'm gonna continue with GiffGaff, paying a tenner a month for O2 coverage but 250 mins, unlimited texts + 3G which gives me no hassle in my area. I've pre-ordered a 32GB 4S, don't like the sound of 21st-28th expected delivery dates though :/

I just got my confirmation mail after 15 hours or so. So This mail means that they have processed my order (checked and approved my cc etc) and when items are ready I will get charged and items will be shipped or it's just a mail that shows that apple got my order and they ll process it soon?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

Got my confirmation email at 9 minutes past midnight after ordering at about twenty past eight in the a.m. Happy joy.

I had my email 9.30am yesterday and the money had already gone out of my account.

Strange...

I've got a confirmation email at 11:30am yesterday, and my bank confirmed that they authorised the money to Apple. But until now, Apple didn't take my money. What's wrong?

Do you get visual voicemail with it being on O2?

Same here I've had no money taken from my credit card yet
Should be ok though and I reckon I should have it before the 14th

If anyone's interested the Three website seems to be working now, there was an issue in taking the £1 pre-auth payments from credit cards and that was causing orders to fail...

just waiting on a confirmation now.

I decided to order online, its kinda sad cause I enjoyed queuing up last year for the iPhone 4 and iPad 2, the atmosphere in the crowd was fantastic. By 9am yesterday I'd ordered and got my confirmation. Does anyone know who apple use to ship the phone? is it UPS like macbooks etc?

Although I always went the day after launch. Apple stores keep stock for the second day. Three stores also had a lot of stock of ipad 2s at launch but only on contract. I would just be cautious with 02 stores as the ones in brent cross and harrow sold out on the first day and had nothing for weeks afterwards. 02 had a great online stock checker last year so watch out for that, I used it and managed to bag the wife an iPhone 4 on the Sunday after launch at the Hayes store.

I went to brent cross on the iPhone 4 and iPad 2 on the day after launch there was a handful of people there, Only issue was they had sold out of 32G phones and all black ipads, so I ended up with a 16G iphone and white 64G ipad 2 3g. TBH I could have done with a 32G iphone but i love white ipad more, goes with my car.

so might be worth trying that.

I've bought 64G White unlocked from apple.com. I'm on a 12 month three The One plan, more minutes than I ever use and unlimited data, and it really is unlimited, One month I used well over 2G with no issues.

In my view customer services with all the mobile operators depends on who answers the phone, I've had really good and shockingly poor service from all the operators (although orange where the worst by a long chalk). TMobile used to be awesome until they got taken over by Orange (and yes I know it was a merge, but trust me its a take over!) they introduced their cap on data on what they still sell as UNLIMITED - they should be shot.

The micro usb adaptor is awesome in my view although i suspect it won't let you sync that way.

Neil.

btw if you want visual voicemail - install hullomail from the app store - its awesome.

Just for info for those looking into which operator to go with.

Vodafone are giving you £59 off the price of the handset if you pre-order today. It states on the site that this is credited on your first bill but when I made the order on the phone it was taken from the cost of the handset.

I was with O2 but due to lack of pre-orders and having to work on launch day I decided to move to Vodafone to guarantee getting a phone.
