Insurance

So, I'm probably going to go with Squaretrade for my (hopefully) soon to be dispatched 4s. Anyone have any different options, so far I've heard applecare+ isn't going to be available here and I don't pay for a premium bank account (yuck, paying for a bank account) so Squaretrade seems to be the best option.

I've heard that if something goes wrong with your phone you should take it to apple first (even if you're out of warranty - just in case the genius helps you out) before you send it off to your insurers.

So, what are your plans?

EDIT: I should make it clear that I have no problem with folks paying for a bank account that provides quality services that they need. I just don't need any of those services because, ironically, I pay my credit card company (less) for them but they don't include phone insurance.

Cant really help with any 3rd party insurers, but i have a Barclays Premier Life account, and all the features we get make it very much worth the £17.50 charge a month.

Hey, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Orange and the micro sims?

I'm currently on the monthly sim only Orange contract which I intend to cancel. Instead I was planning on either just going to use a dolphin PAYG or the iphone PAYG.

But as I currently have a normal sized sim, I was just wondering how easy it was to get the micro sim? Do I just go instore and ask and they'd give me one? Do they need to port over my number and contract info?

Do Orange like giving out 'normal' plans for iphones? Or do they usually urge you to take their specific iphone plans? (I'm leaning towards the iphone one anyways)

I just wanted to probably get it sorted this week so I can at least have a working sim by the time the phone arrives :D

I see what you guys are saying about 3. I think I'll stick with O2 though, even though 3 works out about 40-140£ cheaper over 2 years (depending on whether I get 500mbs of data or 1gb).

Looked into giffgaff and it's a possibility, but leaning towards O2 for various reasons.

Also, about insurance, what do people use? Does anyone use protect your bubble? Any other good options?

You can use hotspot on the iphOne and connect upto 5 devices like having a mifi with you.

Unlimited Internet all you can eat data.

Connect your mac/iPad on to the hotspot and enjoy unlimited data for the low price only on three

does your phone need to be jailbroken for this? Do you have to pay?

I agree,

I just came out of a 24 month contract with O2 and I'm never doing it again.

This time I bought the 4S outright and it is much better now I'm not tied down with a contract

Yeah i'm with o2 also, did you go for a simplicity deal then ?

I know but if you get a good signal and enough data what is the problem with a 2 year contract?
You have to keep the phone for 2 years!
You are tied in with a contract for 2 years...

Thats enough for me never to do it again! I won't ever sign for a 2 year contract again! Having the 3GS for that long has annoyed me!

Do you mean 3:00am on Friday rather than 3:00pm the day before?

My guess is that if you were to queue from 5:00am on Friday you'd be sure of picking up a 4S of your choice.

I mean 3pm, I know its pretty late in the day . Just want an opinion before I waste my time with a 2 hour journey :)

I looked at My O2 yesterday and it said I could fast track upgrade for £47. So this is what I was planning to do on launch day. Looked this morning, and the fast track upgrade page had disappeared. Phone customer service and they said the company had changed this overnight and customers who paid £40 and over were the only ones who could fast track. So I hung up, mulled over my options... Then realised how annoyed I was with O2.

Firstly, they take forever to announced prices which aren't any better than the other operators. Secondly they still haven't announced Any early upgrade offers. Thirdly their tariffs have gone up £2 for some reason. And fourth, they were asking their customers to queue outside a shop on launch day when every other operator was allowing pre orders online. So I rang O2 back up... Asked to cancel my contract. They were trying to do everything to keep me but worked out even if O2 did do the offer they did last year, still wouldn't be worth staying with those cretins. So it's cost me £60 to terminate my contract. That will come through in November. My contract terminates on 7th November with O2 and I have ordered the 4s in Black, 16gb on Orange with 1gb Internet, 300 mins and unlimited texts. Ordered via the Carphone Warehouse and had the confirmation for delivery on 14 October. :)

Didn't want to leave O2, but their iPhone 4s preparation has been shoddy, and don't think they are looking after their customers good enough. Farewell O2, hello Orange.

I can see exactly why your annoyed but at the same time I think its good that a company is taking a stance to please some if not all its customers.

If they flat out said first come, first served and they ended up selling all the phones as new contracts and I was turned away for my upgrade due to no stock then I would be pretty annoyed and probably leave, but as they are doing existing only and if they really are doing £40+ customers first, then fair play. They are taking care of their bread and butter first, before reaching for the jam Haha :D

Whichever way they play it, then some people won't be happy but the only thing I would say is they are not selling out their high value customers for the sake of a few additional customers.

I'm sorry but i class spending £36 a month as a high end customer. Its hardly pittance is it? Can see your point with looking after high end customers but there isn't a lot of people on over £40 a month i bet.

My first Apple device ever was the iPhone 3Gs. I queued from 7am at a busy O2 and was first in the queue. Got a white one and was pleased. The following year, I queued at the opposite end of the shopping center at Orange for two iPhone 4's - was first in the queue again although the manager refused to serve me two PAYG phones (which caused a bit of a scene!), changing his mind from the afternoon previous. Apparently, they all had to be on contract. Fortunately, a Tesco about 50 miles away had them.

This year to cut the faff, I pre-ordered and it still works out cheaper over the course of a year (via Giffgaff) than it would have done on any other network as far as I can see.

Although Three was tempting, their reputed crappy customer service makes me want to run a mile.

I expect that there will be no queues, lots of interested foot traffic from folks walking past and seeing the posters in the windows, but absolutely no iPhone 4S's of any flavour. Although they might have one in of a much less popular unit - like a 64GB black version.

So, what are your plans?

Applecare, then home insurance, then cut losses.

O2- their calls cut alot, slow, sometimes no service, and after certain times during the day no customer service you have to call during working hours.

Sweeping statement, not something I have experienced, I spend anything up to two hours a day on phone calls and have never had a call drop or cut out, so your post is misleading simply because you are trying to convince people (or maybe yourself) that you are getting a better service. For every happy customer will be an unhappy customer, in my house we use Three, O2 and Vodafone and we all rate THree as the worst of the bunch for a variety of reasons. Sure I can talk to someone about an issue at any time of the day, but I usually can't understand a word they are saying, sometimes because of their broken english, others because of the appalling cal quality with them being so far away. To be honest I have never had to make a service call in the middle of the night, so a call centre only open 9-5 is not a major issue.

I don't think I have seen a no service indicator other than when I have been in a place that no phone would get a signal.

Do keep banging your drum though, you seem to enjoy it, even if its not really honesty you are pedalling.

Anyone seen their order status change yet from the UK?

http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=17235

Nope. I wouldn't worry, they are probably prioritising the US because there are so many more orders to sort out, and distributing them across that huge country is going to take a few days.

UK will have probably 1/5th of the orders, maybe less. And we are a tiny country, as soon as they are in our country they can be distributed to the right place within about 12 hours. I would only worry if your 4S isnt in the UK by Thursday, or even in the very early hours of Friday morning.

Anyone queueing up at Apple Stores, what time are you thinking of arriving?

I know someone who arrived at about 3.30am last year for the iPhone 4 and was about 40th  in the queue!

I'm pretty sure they didn't sell out till about 6pm, I heard they had something like 700 phones! :D

I do agree with you, just mean I can see their reasoning. I would double check if I were you, as on their FAQs it explains an existing customer could be someone on PAYG or Simplicity, which would more than likely mean less than £40 per month!

As a payg customer I pay £25.50 a month for my tariff.

However as a payg customer I can't even have a 4s yet as it's not available yet !

Here's my £500 but 02 don't want it !

I could order thro apple uk but the lead time is 2-3 weeks delivery.

Rolls eyes.

Upside is I get to try out iOS 5 in my iPhone 4 and read threads from new iPhone 4s users reporting back on bugs !

They didn't offer me anything. They asked why i was leaving, which I told them quite clearly. And she asked whether I wanted to wait this week to see if they do any offers like last year. Even if I did, it wouldn't cost me any less so what's the point. Handed my notice in.....contract expires now on 7 November and I'll get my cancellation fee of £55 through about 14 days later. In the meantime, I ordered my iPhone 4s through the Carphone Warehouse with orange and Its due for delivery on Friday.
