Yeah, I tried in-store too but didn't have any luck either... Make sure you call early tomorrow, only the first batch of iPhones will come on release (5,000 I think)...

Bizarre, you would think the store and call centre would use the same system! Will give it a whirl in the morning!

That's makes sense logically, right? I've never been a fan of my local Carphone Warehouse, always been a bit arrogant towards customers. Good luck! If you need any more help then you can just PM me if need be.

Ordered my iPhone 4S 32gb white from 3 online on friday morning. Only received the confiromation email with the ref. number. They have taken the money for the phone though today. So hoping I hear something tomorrow :D

Hmm, I ask because I'm going the whole use a pouch with the phone naked route. I honestly think the only reason I want one is for peace of mind maybe. Phonedevil's are apparently 100% see through (well a lot more see through than some other one's out there).

Thanks for your input! I'll probably wait till the last second before I decide, as always :p.

You plan to do exactly the same as me.
My PhoneDevil protectors (front and back) arrived today in the post (with 2 chewy sweets :p) and I will be putting them on my new 4s.

I have also reserved these at my local argos store:

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5240793/Trail/searchtext>SOCK.htm

I will be keeping one everywhere - car, work, home etc so there is always one for it to sit on / in ;)
And bargain at that price for 6!

I don't want a case on my 4s. Have one on my white 4 - and it has done a good job of protecting it, but I don't think this phone looks nice with a case on it! Yes, I may drop it, but I plan to always have it in a sock and the phonedevil protection will give me peace of mind if it comes into contact with a hard surface (lay on desk etc).

You should do this too!

Please be specific; are Three UK's and T-Mobile's 3G networks entirely managed by MBNL -- or just a subset of each network that is shared between both networks?

Basically the sites are shared, but the frequency and backhaul are different. The networks themselves still remain seperate. It is not a case that 3 customers can use T-Mobile's network or vice versa. If you think of it as site sharing, you won't be too far out.
Confusingly, 3 has a 2G roaming agreement with Orange, i.e. 3 customers see the 2G Orange network as a 'home' network. I don't think it has been announced how this will work in the future, although it may not be an issue, as 3 are now only using Orange 2G in areas of poor 3 3G coverage.

Here is some info from MBNL
By combining their 3G access networks (the mobile masts and infrastructure that connects to each operator's separate core network) Everything Everywhere and Three UK has created Europe's most extensive high-speed packet access (HSPA) network. It furthers both companies' joint commitment to deliver true mobile broadband internet access in addition to reliable voice and text services.

Having successfully delivered the consolidation project, MBNL is now responsible for managing the consolidated network of sites including the 2G and consolidated 3G radio access networks for Three UK and Everything Everywhere. We are also responsible for the delivery of all site upgrades to continuously improve the consolidated network

Also does anyone use/have experience with phonedevil screen protectors?

And do you think that the fact there is no cutout for the two sensors that are much more visible on the white version will interfere with their functions? As in will the screen protector covering the sensors 'mess' them up?

the phone devil ones are quite thick and over priced imo .
I bought (and recommend) 3M's stuff. Very large company, make great products. They have application videos etc if you need help on their product pages of their online store. £15 gets you 2 front protectors. or you can get a privacy screen if people are always hovering over your shoulder reading your phone. neither product will lift up on the edges either as you get on some depending what case you use. and no, i don't work for them.

and screen protectors DO make a difference depending how you handle your phone. Would you rather sacrifice a piece of plastic, or scratch the glass and get a new glass front?
But if you're careful then you don't need a screen protector.

I wouldn't quite say they are overpriced when you have spent £15 on 2 front protectors...

PhoneDevil packs 2 front protectors in their package, which is £7.97.
If you order the back protectors too (same price of £7.97) they take £2.00 off your total order.

So that's £13.94 for 2 front AND back protectors that have fantastic reviews from virtually everyone who uses them, and 2 chewy sweets thrown in...

I think that's amazing value and not overpriced in the slightest...

Plus, PhoneDevil also do privacy covers for those interested. And no, I do not work for them lol.

On the subject of screen protectors, I've used quite a few different ones and eventually settled on the PhoneDevil clear ones. For the last couple of months I haven't had a protector on the screen and it's worth saying that the PhoneDevil doesn't reduce the quality much. It's very hard like glass and very clear once applied. It's also very easy to apply. I removed it as I had it turning up very slightly by the home button and wanted to clean it before deciding that I may as well just lift it off as it was scratched quite a bit anyway.

I have a Gelaskin on the back of my iPad 2 and I have an Incipio Feather (black) on my (black) iPhone 4. I was going to re-use the Incipio Feather on the iPhone 4s but I might just drop it all together and go for a Gelaskin all round.

The Incipio gives very good protection but I quite like the idea of getting something that feels a little more personalised.

@brian - thanks for the info. I wish someone would draw a diagram to explain all the relationships between the networks!

Good news on the Orange - T-mobile 3g coverage going live. I go through the countryside quite often and lose signal regularly so hoping this improves things. Has dropped back to Orange/T-Mobile on the phone screen before but due to it going to 2g I force it back to just Orange when I can.

Ordered myself a white 32gb from Orange on the phone today. They really are not giving too much aware which seems to be the general consensus in this thread anyway. Stated upto 30 days to deliver. Not too hopeful for a Friday/Saturday delivery due to putting in my order so late now - had only just decided to go for one :D

Fingers crossed

Ive just bought 2x sets of these too. The devices must have been fired from their distribution out of a cannon or something. I ordered late last Thursday and they arrived on Friday.

Good to hear they are well rated. They seem of comparative quality to the Power Support protectors.

Basically the sites are shared, but the frequency and backhaul are different.

That's not how I read this article:

http://www.3g.co.uk/PR/Dec2007/5531.htm

It's talking about the access network being combined, which is the essentially the radio network. Whether this is referring to just the Node B or the RNC as well is unclear. Most operators co-locate the RNC with the MSS, so I suspect it is just the Node B, but it still suggests they are sharing actual transmitters and not just masts.

Anyone that has ordered with Three, I have just got off the phone to them, if you had troubles on Friday or Saturday it might be worth giving them a call as I had managed to order 5 CONTRACTS over the course of Friday evening and Saturday morning... swiftly cancelled four of those!!

Anyway, she said that although their delivery is due for Friday at the moment, they're not sure when the units are arriving from Apple, so it could be Friday, Saturday, or Monday that they are out for delivery, and they're sent tracked with Royal Mail, so the good thing with that is you'll be able to pick it up from a local depot if you miss the delivery, it can sometimes be a bit harder with the other couriers to get your stuff.

She seemed fairly confident that Three could fulfil the orders up until them in that batch, but probably worth taking that with a pinch of salt... If I've not heard anything about delivery by Friday, I'll give them another call and repost here.

I must have tried about 50 times over the weekend, did you get that error page every time apart from the last?
a bit worried i might have truck full of iPhones on the way now!

vodafone will unlock contract iphones even if they arent at the end of the contract, i managed to get 2 unlocked 1 month after its release

i agree, i always buy sim free iphones, and get sim only contracts, over the course of 12/18/24 months it effectively works out the same as a contracts cost but you arent tied in to anything

It does, and I've done it myself in the past, but the savings are sometimes only marginal.

You have got to factor in cashback sites like quidco.

What I tend to do is take out the 24 month contract one year, eg I just bought the 32gig 4S on 3 mobile with £149 cashback via quidco.

I also have circa £300 to come back from the sale of my 32G iphone 4.

Now next year I will still be in contract obviously so I will just sell the 4S and buy the iphone 5 direct from apple.

If it wasn't for the cashback element from sites like Quidco I'd agree with you 100%.

Also bear in mind that if the saving over 2 years is about £100 its more useful for people who have a regular monthly income to reduce the upfront cost of the new handset as they don't miss an extra few quid a month.

Have spent a week working out how to get iPhone 4s for best price:

Have just arranged to send off iPhone4 16gb to o2 recycle for £266, have ordered new iPhone 4s 16gb from apple for £499.

Therefore, new iPhone 4s for £233 right?! Best option for me due to being on 24month contract and unable to fast track due to o2's unbelievable £40 tariff rule.

This also means once the iPhone5 is released i'm ready to upgrade.

Now I'm happy.

I do feel that O2 always had decent retention deals for existing customers.

Unfortunately I could never get a 3G signal in my home area, and like o EDGE was an absolute b!tch, so I switched to "3"

Just to clarify, does everyone's status who ordered literally 1st thing as soon as the preorder became available from Apple show:

Processing Items Dispatched: Ships by October 14th

Are there any tricks for us UK guys to track it by using our Apple reference number with any of the couriers??

The reason I would like screen protectors is so I can lie it down on a desk or something lol, so I guess these are good :). and good deal on those socks!! I'm tempted... but I already bought this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Proporta-Al...OJFS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1318372203&sr=8-3 after hearing only good things about it!
Also you had/have a white iPhone 4!! Do the screen protectors interfere with the sensors on the front above the speaker at all?

Thanks for both your inputs!! And yes, I would rather sacrifice plastic than my lovely phone :p So I bought front and back ones! :)

76 pages? gees...

Well i'm not going back through them but I hope people have been using quidco for orders in the uk ;)

Three are offering £115 cashback via them for the 4S pre orders. (£35 per month, 24 months). Shame to waste away such savings.

Yes they are, but my order tracked with quidco at £149 so I'm hopeful of getting the extra £40 as well lol

Yes, they all show that.

It's good news and it's progress, but what it doesn't allow (yet) is handover from one network to the other. if you set up a call on Orange and move out of coverage, the call will drop, even if there is a strong signal on T-Mobile. Once the call drops, your phone will then location update on T-Mobile's network and you can re-establish it.

It's basically National Roaming (which is what 3 does onto Orange's 2G network at present).

i think it's pretty much confirmed we wont be getting our iPhones on the 14th, unless Apple has stock of them in Cork, Ireland and has shipped them all there first.
