What makes you say this?

As they haven't shipped yet, if they were coming from China they would not be here on time unless they shipped them tonight.

They might have shipped all of their UK stock from the factory in China to their UK distribution center in Ireland, then they ship them out from there to the customers.

They are very unlikely to be coming direct from China, so it is not in any way confirmed that they won't be here for Friday.

It's worth someone mentioning now that cashback is not guaranteed.

Obviously I can only speak from personal experience but I've never had any issues with cashback via quidco, I've saved £500 in the last 2 years on multiple phone contracts, sky Tv etc.

I even get 4% back on app purchases from :apple: :D

My release-day iP4 came direct from China

Maybe, but most came from the UK. As shown earlier in this thread, most people got delivery notifications very late. We are still a day away from the equivalent time.

Also, there have been many reports that there is stock of the phones in the country already. I'm not saying those reports are true, but I see nothing to suggest that they aren't.

Dunno about Apple but Carphone Warehouse are adamant they are delivering this Friday. They've even given me a tracking number which i guess will start to show movement on Thursday when it leaves the warehouse.

UPS do, not Apple.

My shipments from Apple normally go from Cork to Tamworth UPS Hub

I've only bought one item before online and the item was shipped from China->Germany->Heathrow->Tamworth->round the houses->my gaff (15 miles from Heathrow). It was an experience following the flight paths and all that.

forgot about my MBP, which went from China - Incheon, Korea - Warsaw, Poland - Cologne, Germany - East Midlands Airport - Derby - Me

probably because Apples European HQ in Cork was not open in 2009, the year I ordered my MBP.

Pre-Ordered the 32GB from Vodafone on the 7th, but being an 02 customer for several years they then come out with better pricing!

Vodafone have of course now tweaked their pricing, I fancied a change of provider anyway but having studied again tonight, Three have a much better deal so I ordered a 64GB from them online for not a lot more really.

Order failed first time round and the site seemed to go down, but it all went through on the second attempt and the delivery date was shown for Friday the 14th. Only time will tell I guess!

Been very happy with the 3GS so this will be a huge upgrade for me, hope I see it at the end of the week! :)

It'll be a bit of a PR disaster if we don't!

How do you figure that ? Apple never promised to deliver the phones by the 14th. People assumed that because it was launching on that day all preorders would be delivered by then. Hardly a PR disaster. People have no reason to complain especially when the shipping is free and the phones are delivered via courier using tracking.

Oh yes, QuidCo is excellent but it's not always guaranteed. I find :apple: pay quite late - I was waiting 9 months for the cashback from my MBP and have had cashback track but not be approved from various online retailers.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to you being proven right.

I don't think that Apple would confirm that they won't be here for Friday.

But I suspect that they'll ship sometime on Wednesday - any time now really - and arrive on Friday, but hopefully Thursday :)

They certainly wouldn't (although Apple representatives have been saying they won't).

I said that because a previous poster said that "it's pretty well confirmed", although he was basing that on them coming from China.

I don't expect we will see any movement until tomorrow evening.

^ I think you're right.

Going by the iPhone 4 launch last year, the tracking updates quite literally the night before delivery (in some cases only hours before delivery). That would be tomorrow at night (late).

Protection... on my iPhone 3GS and my first iPhone 4 (had it replaced, bad wifi connection, had to remove and lose protection) I used the invisibleSHIELD full pack.
Everything cut to size, protection for front, back and Sides. Very fiddly to put on the iPhone 4, but worth it... gives it much better grippability! The iPhone 4 is so slippery!

Think I'll be getting on again for my 4S!

vodafone will unlock contract iphones even if they arent at the end of the contract, i managed to get 2 unlocked 1 month after its release

i agree, i always buy sim free iphones, and get sim only contracts, over the course of 12/18/24 months it effectively works out the same as a contracts cost but you arent tied in to anything

... how? Friend of mine ended up Jailbreaking and unlocking that way, as Vodafone just woudn't unlock it for her! She still has it "unofficially" unlocked.

I must have tried about 50 times over the weekend, did you get that error page every time apart from the last?
a bit worried i might have truck full of iPhones on the way now!

I tried until I got through to the web reference screen... I too got the error page every time until the last. Just give them a call to check, it was a UK call Centre. I think he said they were going through all the orders an removing rediculous duplicates, but it might be worth checking.

I just called up Vodafone and asked them. There wasn't any issue trying to get it done. A friend of mine has also had his phone unlocked which he purchased from eBay. They did it without any fuss. I guess it depends on which operators you get through to

Don't think thats quite right. MBNL is a joint venture between T-Mobile UK and H3G-UK. The T-Mobile part has now been assimilated into EverythingEverywhere. MBNL operates transmission sites for both T-Mobile and 3. However, both networks retain sperate back haul service and their own frequency, even at these shared sites. This is a 'site share' scheme, there is no roaming between 3 and T-Mobile's 3G networks. A certain level of 3 signal does not guarantee T-Mobile coverage, and vice versa. Each network makes individual decisions on mast power, etc based on their network demographics. Also bare in mind not all MBNL sites operate both H3G and T-Mobile masts, the majority do, but not all.
The plan is for some previous Orange UK locations to join MBNL - presumably in areas where the combined network needs the capacity, I think the eventual plan is to have one, single, EverythingEverywhere network. When I was at Orange the tagline was "Orange, inspired by EverythingEverywhere"

I'm not sure this is quite the case, I think the integration is a little closer than this. My understanding is that the antenna(s) are separate on the tower which is shared but they connect to the same backend operating equipment at the tower before the traffic is split and sent as data to each network's server (i.e. core backend network). So it isn't quite as simple as site sharing but not as integrated as mobiles from each network connecting to the same antenna (they couldn't do this as the operating frequencies are different, also why signal strength differs, 1800Mhz(tmobile) has better building penetration than 2100Mhz(3)), BUT, they do connect to the same tower i.e. the same "computer" within the tower, traffic is sent over a shared data path i.e. gigabit backhaul. So they're sharing the bandwith to the mast etc thats why for example tmobile and 3's data speeds at a given mast would be almost exactly the same. This is also why such cost savings can be achieved as it is this processing equipment and the data path to the tower which costs so much money.

Hopefully that makes a little more sense.

Where did you find out that the Blackberry and iPhone data services are different? TBH im tempted to just cut down the BB sim, stick it in the iPhone and hope for the best. A bit of net research has suggested that it should be fine.

the tech guy at work mentioned it. the guy at orange didnt have a clue and told me the only difference was unlimited BBM in my plan.

I was sceptical at first... until you rememeber that RIM are having problem with their data so all the BB's data is down atm.

most phones get data direct, with BB's it goes via RIM, which is why its praised for business use because of the security, however if something happens... everyones BB goes down!
