I can't remember which phone it was but it was the same situation at launch, no UK orders had shipped right up until the day before launch and they were all sat in a Cork warehouse and therefore next-day delivery is easy.

You may be thinking about the iPhone 4 or iPad launch. The iPhone 4 pre-order customers received an update the night before it was delivered. That'll be par with very late tonight/early tomorrow morning for the 4S.

Now who's for toast and coffee?

How do you figure that ? Apple never promised to deliver the phones by the 14th. People assumed that because it was launching on that day all preorders would be delivered by then. Hardly a PR disaster. People have no reason to complain especially when the shipping is free and the phones are delivered via courier using tracking.

In PR, it's not what you say, it's what people expect that matters. And these days with new tech, be it iPhones or video games, people have come to expect to get their pre-orders on release day. So whilst Apple would be able to turn around and say "we never promised to deliver on the 14th", unfair as it may be they'd still have many, many angry customers on their hands. Have a look at the Call of Duty MW3 threads that'll start getting very busy over the next few weeks with people asking where others have pre-ordered; you'll see loads of "Well I'm not ordering from XYZ again because last year they didn't deliver mine on launch day", despite that fact the XYZ probably never said they would.

My sympathy is with all those who are ordering stuff from china, unless a chinese product is branded and is in your market and you check it yourself in your hand, do not order one. You never know what will you get when you try your hands on it. So be very careful about this.

This is my friendly suggestion. I ve been victim of chinese brands several times so be careful about it.

Imagine if all the people in the US who've had shipping notices from China ended up with a "new Appel Hi-Phone 4Super" knock-off :D

There is absolutely no reason why our iPhones wouldn't have shipped by now if they were coming from China. Pretty much ALL of the American's iPhones shipped Monday, so what would the rest of the stock be sitting waiting for 3 days later. I'm pretty confident that our iPhones will begin shipping late tonight from a UK based distribution centre, and we'll start getting notification tomorrow. If 3, Carphone Warehouse etc are reporting they have stock to ship for Friday deliveries then I think that's good enough evidence that our iPhones arrived in bulk then were distributed to the various providers and the Apple.com pre-orders are waiting to be sent out. I don't see why pre-orders from Apple.com would be individually shipped from China, now. It makes no financial sense for a country the size of the UK.

so reading all of the reviews around the interwebs is cool isn't it?

can't wait for siri to make my dinner :)

Just read that Siri can't read emails, only the sent mails, and text messages.

Beta though.

I'm looking forward to my daughter texting my missus :D

Correct, and all you panicing people should read this, over and over! :apple:

DELIVERY NEWS: Some people who ordered through vodafone are now saying they have started to get delivery emails saying they will get the phone on friday, seems as if the train is starting to move !

If people in Germany are receiving them already and people in the US get theirs on Friday and the UK don't, I can't see it sitting well with a lot of people.

You have no basis for your complaining or should I say whining. That has nothing to do with Apple nor is it their fault. If a German telecoms company and courier decide to deliver phones early you can't blame Apple or anyone else. These hings happen and is the norm for any new product release. There are always companies who jump the gun. There are more important things in life then a phone delivery. You and others complaining about deliveries need to just chill out. If you get your phone after the launch date it's not the end of the world.

My point is they have no basis for their complaining and whining. Their expectations are unrealistic. Preorders do not mean getting the product on release date or before and never have. Their sole purpose is to guarantee you the product when it's released.

In fairness, I don't think he is complaining himself, just saying that people will.

I agree with him. I wouldn't say that it would be a PR "disaster", but I suspect that if people were to get their phones from the likes of Vodafone etc, and others were walking into Apple shops and buying them, but those who had ordered direct from Apple had to wait until next week for them to arrive then there would be a lot of complaining.

Whether they are correct to complain is another matter entirely, but they certainly will complain.

Of course, it is all very likely to be irrelevant, as I'm sure they will be delivered on Friday.

The prize will be to shut everyone up in this thread saying the phones are still in china lol.

Im leaving o2, poor CS IMO, no pre orders and they expect people to que for hours, when we don't even know how many stock they are getting, back to vodafone for me.

I'd do the same, except for a couple of things -

1. Visual Voicemail - it's unbelievable that O2 are still the only UK network to offer this

2. O2 are now offering 12 month contracts to existing customers, which, along with the £280 "cash back" for trading in my old phone, mean I'm getting the 4S for a year, while being given a net £60, AND I'm free to upgrade and/or jump networks when the iPhone 5 comes out (presumably next October)

It's literally too good to turn down.

Just looking forward to it arriving on Friday AM to be honest.

The curious looks from colleagues and the envious/jealous looks from them too.

It's just my new phone.:apple:

God i'm not looking forward to queueing up at O2 on Friday morning :(

Same here. Thankfully I work in a ****** town so I expect the local o2 to not have that much of a queue.

I'm planning on getting there a couple of hours prior to the store opening (when ever the hell that its)

Maybe so but Apple can't control what other companies do with their orders and stock. Regards Apple's online store orders and retail shops you're forgetting one thing. Online orders are guaranteed. There is no guarantee that people walking into an Apple store on Friday will walk out with a phone. It's all first come first served and depends on stock levels. Therefore your argument is flawed. In short people have no reason to complain about Apple's online orders being delivered after the launch date.

You are assuming I am complaining, which I am not. My observation was that people would complain if they didn't get their phones on Friday and that it would not do Apple's image any good. I think this thread bears that out.
