In short people have no reason to complain about Apple's online orders being delivered after the launch date.

I think we're all pretty well agreed on that.

It won't stop them though.

----------

Regards Apple's online store orders and retail shops you're forgetting one thing. Online orders are guaranteed.

What makes you think I'm forgetting that?

I think the main issue here is that Apple should be bending over backwards to make sure anyone who preordered one gets it on release day. The reasoning behind this is because those who preorder are likely their most passionate fans and pissing them off isn't good PR. Plus, if they can have their stores stocked with phones for release day there isn't any excuse for not shipping online orders to arrive on that day.

As usual though the UK preorders will appear seemingly at random with some people getting them on release day, others not for a day or two after. Picking Friday as a launch day is stupid as well since anyone who doesn't get it on release day for whatever reason has to wait until Monday since couriers don't tend to deliver at weekends.

From experience however, I have yet to see Apple manage to get a preorder of mine to arrive on release day. If it's the same thing again this time I'll just queue up on Friday and get one from the Apple Store and return the preorder when it eventually arrives. It doesn't hurt me, it just means extra cost and administration Apple's part to come and collect it and process the refund.

This is my situation. 1 active order. Apple keeps cancelling them and no one can tell me why.

You are assuming I am complaining, which I am not. My observation was that people would complain if they didn't get their phones on Friday and that it would not do Apple's image any good. I think this thread bears that out.

Fair enough. However people have no reason to complain and I very much doubt in the grand scheme of things it's going to affect Apple's image. No one has a right expect their phones to be delivered on or before launch day unless Apple explicitly said they would which they haven't. Not to mention like I keep saying it's not the end of the world and there are more important things in life then getting a phone delivered when you expect and not when it actually is. It's just very pathetic people are not happy that their phones may not get to them by launch date.

My point is they have no basis for their complaining and whining. Their expectations are unrealistic. Preorders do not mean getting the product on release date or before and never have. Their sole purpose is to guarantee you the product when it's released.

I'm sorry but when I pre-ordered, it said 'Preorder 7th October for delivery 14th October'. That's why I expect it next friday and I'll be disappointed if I don't get it. I'm going away and would have made other arrangements if the webpage hadn't specifically said '..for delivery 14th'

I'm not whining (in fact this is my first post on the subject) but I will be disappointed and will feel misled by Apple.

Those deals look good. If the take up is high, the o2 network is going to take a hammering! :D

it says iPhone4S tariffs.

Great point, with tesco sharing the network with o2, and tesco's growing market share, there might be a lot more more upset o2 customer over the next 12 months.

Isn't O2 what giffgaff use as well? I'm sure there aren't enough giffgaff users to have any impact, but they do seem to share their network a lot.

Having read through (almost) the entire thread I felt complelled to reply.

Ordered my iPhone 4S last Friday, around 11:00 and received the confirmation. Status of the order remains at Processing Items Dispatched: Ships by October 14th.

The odd thing for me is that they appeared to have reserved the cash out of my account over the weekend and up until yesterday, now it looks like that has been released. Maybe they just do a quick check to ensure that the funds are available, who knows?

Will I be disappointed if my shiny new iPhone doesn't arrive on Friday? Yes of course. Will it influence my decision to buy Apple products in the future, particularly on a pre-order basis? That is doubtful, providing Apple continue to release the products I want or at least that I think I want then I'll continue to be a loyal customer.

I completely understand everyone's concerns and am continuing to hit refresh on the order page but at the end of the day I will have to wait and see. If it doesn't arrive then life will go on and I'll just wait... for sure I won't be going and purchasing another one on the day to then have to return the pre-ordered one at a later date.

Judging by your "Location" on the forum, you flit between the two? perhaps they see your iTunes account as a US one and so are cancelling orders you're placing through the UK store.

They'll also cancel orders if you try to buy >2

Soooooo...

What time are people planning on getting to their chosen store on Friday morning? I am thinking that queues at Apple stores will be longer, purely as there are fewer of them, and a lot of people just want the Apple 'Buzz'.

As I said before, I am planning on getting to the Swindon O2 store for between 6 and 7am (for 8am opening). I reckon I should be ok for a white 64gb, assuming they have a quite a few in stock.

Getting quite excited now! Probably more than I should for a new phone! ;)

Whats the likelihood of me getting an Iphone 4s this weekend in the Leicester Apple shop without pre-ordering?

The status for some in Australia just changed to ''Preparing for Shipment''.

I guess UK's status will change tonight! ''hopefully''

That seems to have happened to a lot of people.

The credit card reserve seems fairly random to me. I even have a hold still showing on a credit card that I never actually managed to place an order with. I started off using the wrong credit card, and changed to the correct one after my first attempt timed out.

The card I have used is an Egg one. Does anyone know how to check whether funds have been reserved on an Egg card?

Has apple already taken your money? They took mine

Mine went on Friday about 10 minutes after I ordered. Though checked my account today and it's appeared back in my bank. Strange. This happened to my friend and his iMac. It'll eventually be taken back out again :p.

i can't remember if you are allowed to pre-order for store pickup, so if not, then i would assume your chances are high assuming you're in the queue early enough... i believe stores open at 8am

Slim I would imagine. I would be pretty surprised if they have any left by closing time Friday. I could be wrong though.

Yep, that timing is about right. The time in Australia now is about the time I would expect to see ours change tonight.
