Good morning all!

I have a little dilema which no one seems to understand... but I am sure you guys can see my point!

I have an iPhone 5 on preorder from Three which I ordered on Friday AM so SHOULD arrive on launch day.

With this being the first year I have moved away from O2, who I have been with for 5 or so years, I am unsure how other carriers work.

My problem is that after reading more and more reports, I feel that I should have gone with Orange to gain 4G, I live and work in two of the lucky 16 citys which will get 4G when EE is up and running!

So two things are stopping me from getting my iPhone with Orange:

1) When I phone Three to enquire about cancelling my preorder they tell me this can't be done?!?! Anyone else had this? Is this correct or should I keep trying until I speak to someone who knows what they are doing?

2) I have missed the PreOrder boat with Orange, but as with O2 I wouldn't need to preorder the phone in store, I would just have to be one of the first in line on launch day. Is this still true for Orange? Is anyone else planning on getting up 4am etc?

Any help / advice would be much appricated!

Anyone else justify sticking with Three? Its an overall cheaper deal and my iPad is currently on a Three Data plan, so I can vouch that the network is stable and pretty fast in my area. Is 4G going to be that much better???

many thanks in advance

When you receive the phone, call 3 to cancel the contract......you can do it within 7 days i'm sure

Question, do you have wifi at home? If so then surely you would use this instead of the 4G network? Same with work.

The thing to note about EE's 4G is it will have piss poor speeds. They are quoting 8-12mbps on 4G, its in their small print. You can currently get those same speeds and better on 3's HSPA+ network. 3 are currently working on DC-HSDPA which will give even greater speeds and will have LTE in 2013 but like EE it will most likely be in limited areas.

EE will most likely charge more for a 4G plan, they are also saying you need to pay an upfront fee and sign a new minimum term contract when you switch.

Speed is one thing, but coverage is king. they say LTE is coming to those towns but the entire town? most likely a small part to start with.

Save yourself even more money, 3 has tethering enabled on all the plans I have had. Just tether your iPad to your phone and use it's data plan. It's the reason I didnt buy a 3G iPad. Wifi with tethering is just dandy.

Check the very bottom of www.ee.co.uk and see the small print regarding speeds and potential costs.

CPW Predorders

Hello everyone!

Three days (if you include today) to go!!

Anyway has anyone who preordered over the phone at Carphone Warehouse had their order dispatched and received an email or anything?

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

kendalUK. Where abouts are you as EE say they will cover 17 citys but actually they say in the small print it will be 10

"When we launch 4GEE, 10 of the 16 cities shown will be enabled. Those are London, Birmingham, Leeds, Cardiff, Bristol, Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow and Sheffield. The map and list of cities shown here illustrates the coverage in 16 cities that we aim to have in place by the end of 2012. "

Many thanks for all these points!

I must admit, I was blinded by the marketing adds from EE etc on how good the service will be!

Many thanks for your tips, you may have saved me a shed load of money and "guarranted" me a phone on launch day!

Just seen this on the Official EE twitter

"Sanjay ‏@sanjaythetwit
@EE If i have a £36 plan with 1gb and unlimited text and data if I switch to EE will my plan be the same both price and usage but 4g?"

they reply

"EE ‏@EE
@sanjaythetwit Switching to #4GEE requires a new plan with EE, that might cost a bit more than your current plan."

I missed the small print!!!!

I live in Derby and work in Notts!

Many thanks for pointing this out to me, serves me right for not reading the small print!

No. Ordered an upgrade through CPW on Friday. Had no contact at all from them, but money has been taken from my bank account.

I'm the same. I called them last night and turns out that they hadn't closed my order properly! I think it's all sorted now. They guaranteed that it'll be with me on Friday still and that they'll send out tracking numbers etc sometime tomorrow. I wish i'd just waited to preorder with o2 now!

They said it's already activated, but porting my number can take between 1 and 13 days! is that right???

No.

The porting system is controlled by law.

You MUST be able to get a PAC from your existing network within 2 hours.

Once you have that, giving it to your NEW network, MUST result in it being ported the NEXT working day*.

*Exceptions:

Friday > Monday
Saturday/Sunday > Tuesday

If you ask for it to be ported on a later date, that can be arranged (up to the 30 days that the PAC is valid for).

The daily cut-off time is usually 17:00 or 17:30 to give the new network a PAC.

I heard a naughty 3 worker telling a customer they could have a iPhone5 instore by Thursday evening and to try then.

Yeah right mate

Does anyone know if you find out your new Three number before the phone and sim arrive? If they include this in the dispatch email, it would mean I could get my member port request in the day before the phone is due to arrive.

If you sign a new contract with t-mobile and it's the same price or more than the new plan with EE then there will be no additional cost

I believe it does tell you the number on the little bit of paper you get.

KendalUK. Have a google for "Three hspa+ speeds" and you will see a few videos of people running speed tests. Often getting 10mbps speeds which is faster than EE's LTE bottom speed but still off their top quoted speed.

We will all have to wait and see just how fast EE's network is in reality.

Three also confirmed via twitter that they support wideband audio on the iP5 and are still looking into visual voicemail as they seem to be getting a lot of people ask.

Oh bugger! Now that's just taking the jam out of my donuts! Cheers for that Mecenary. Gonna cancel my order

Rang t mobile and they said they are trying to get preorders to customers within seven days of launch, but it may be 30 days etc.

I have no idea why I didn't just order with apple. If I hear nothing by Thursday I'm queuing at the apple store.

Will also be interesting to see if they offer unlimited data or some sort of cap. Fair use policies suck and three really is truly unlimited (although im still on a 1GB plan).

Normally 500mb would do me just fine but when I have days where im using my itunes match then I burn though that in a single day so thinking about going unlimited as the iP5 does more in the cloud. For me, important factors are 3G coverage and lots and lots of data allowance.

The word in my youngest's junior school playground is that the iPhone 5 is already available in Currys :D:D I must admit I haven't looked.

Many thanks for this,

Visual voicemail is something that I will miss on O2, I was shocked how long the exclusivity has been in place for!

Are they looking in to VVM? Got a link? I've been with Three for a while and would love this!

Yes indeed. I did call them back to check, and the guy said that due to them not having them in stock, the emails with the order details aren't being sent out. As soon as they are in stock the order detail email, and then tracking detail emails will be sent.
Am not particularly concerned - what's the worst that can happen?

Glad i cancelled my t-mobile pre order now tbh and stuck with o2

T-Mobile don't allow teathering on their all you can eat package.
£10 more for the phone
and no Friday launch delivery (we're assuming)

How do you rate your itunes match? Its something i've been looking at but never found anyone else using it to get an opinion. Is it true it only holds 25000 songs? Am i right in saying its 21.99 a month?

Need a bit of help! Can someone clarify this response from Three.

Lee Dawson ‏@lmddawson
@ThreeUK if i'm picking up the iPhone 5 in store Friday, will I just be charged the up front cost, or the 1st month on top too?

17 Sep ThreeUK ThreeUK ‏@ThreeUK
@lmddawson You should've paid upfront already.. Your first bill should come a week later, so nothing to pay on fri >Ros

16h Lee Dawson Lee Dawson ‏@lmddawson
@ThreeUK when you say a week later, is that from when I pick up or when upfront was paid?

1h ThreeUK ThreeUK ‏@ThreeUK
@lmddawson The team in store can explain the billing for you when you pick your phone up <Jo

So lets say it was preordered instore on the 15th, did they mean the first month would be charged on the 22nd, or a week after its picked up?
