Nano sim

Walked into an O2 store yesterday picked up a 'business/pay monthly' nano sim, did the web sim swap process around 5pm yesterday, got home noticed it hadnt activated, tried the text sim swap process at about 11pm. Nano sim activated this morning when i woke up - some people are finding the swop takes 30 seconds, some people are saying 12/24 hrs (which is what they quote) so i wouldn't sweat it if it doesn't work straight away, although i would suggest trying to get it done in the next 24 hrs to avoid the rush on Friday! I went from micro-nano sim (iP4-iP5), on the old sim only unlimited data Simplicity plan. Hope that helps someone.

totally new to preordering from apple and im from the UK, on my apple account it says delivery 21st september, when i will be able to start tracking it?

sorry if this is a stupid question

I spoke to Apple just not, Wednesday, about my order.
They said that UK orders are being shipped within the UK and that I wasn't to be worried if it didn't ship until Thursday.

Can anyone help please....i'm currently on orange but I ordered a 3 nano SIM which was delivered to me Monday......so it's currently just waiting in the draw for the iPhone 5 to arrive.

1st question is, when the phone comes, will it just be an easy case as to put the new SIM in and it will work straight away or will i have to wait ages for it to be activated??

Also, I didn't bother with an adaptor to activate now as my current iPhone 4 the SIM tray is stuck and i can't get it out. I have my PAC code from orange so i'm ready to swap my number over as soon as i get the phone. So yea, just basically wondering also whether the orange SIM will go completely dead once the number has ported? (ie if i sell it no one can use it?)

If anyone can let me know about these 2 queries, would be much appreciated! Cheers!

Activation can take a little while. Around 2-8 hours but expect it to be higher on iP5 launch day due to volume.

The sim will activate with your new 3 number. The swap over of your old number will usually be done overnight.

All details about moving to Three are here http://www.three.co.uk/Support/Welcome_to_Three
The number port page says "To move your existing number to Three, please complete the form below using the information on your registered account.

If you send your form before 5pm Monday-Friday (excluding bank holidays) your number should be moved during the next working day. If you send your form outside of these times, we'll process your request as soon as we can on the next working day, and let you know by text and email when your number will be moved.

Only submit this form if you have one number to move and you are ready for that number to move on the next working day."

Your old SIM will then be deactivated and useless. Still, you would need to be able to remove it if you plan on selling your phone :)

I'd recommend phoning 3 tomorrow at the latest to get your nano activated and Orange number ported over. Friday will be chaos with everyone activating their nano sims.

Once your number is ported over your orange sim will no longer work. Though for security reasons I wouldn't sell your fudged phone with the old sim in it.

No you will have to do a sim swap, which can take upto 24 hours although it may take only 10 mins - 2 hours in reality ( could be longer as launch day will be mad). Once the sim is active you can then make you phone work and activate it with apple which will put the setting into your phone for data and mss etc and your away.

If you can activate your phone sim now or maybe last thing on thursday (assuming your iphone is due on Friday). Once you have done the sim swap the existing sim card will be dead yes and you can break it in two and throw it away. Your phone how ever will still function as you can then sell it as you see fit.

Hope that helps

I think its safe to say the UK shipments are coming from our neighbours in Cork Ireland not China like the US ones.

Therefore there likely wont be any shipping notifications until late Wed or Thurs.

Could also be at Syncreon's warehouse in Tamworth, my 4S came from there.

Thanks for all your help people....so in theory, could i phone 3 and activate the SIM card now?? Even though it's still in the box it came in? So when i put it in the phone on Friday it will all be ready?

Or do i have to wait till it's actually inside the phone turned on?

(not too fussed about the number porting quickly, just want to be able to turn the thing on! :) )

I just rang t-mobile and they are still giving me the same rubbish that you can wait up to 30 days and that they will not receive the phone in till Friday 21st. They seem to talk so much rubbish. It really is a joke. Every other carrier gets them before the 21st so I am sure t-mobile will. Anyone else tried calling them or gotten any other information?

I'll just re-cap quickly as i've already posted about it on a previous page but i have rang them a few times since friday last was 9:30 last night, my status is 'dispatched to courier', have my order number, phoning me with consignment number today, getting delivered by royal mail friday 21st AM. It was a phone order at roughly 8:05am friday 14th, new customer, 64gb black. Was told on previous call that they'd struggle with 16gb demand, 64gb no problems, never mentioned 32gb. Hope this helps.

Bit off topic, but does anyone know how often the stores get deliveries after the launch?

After tesco took me on a merry dance, saying I could just swap my contract to nano sim if I upgraded, then saying I'd need to buy the phone unlocked from apple. So obviously the shipping dates have slipped to 3-4 weeks now, so I'm guessing it'll be quicker just to walk in store, but I don't want to go on Friday as it'll be manic.

So, anyone got any ideas, more specifically the store at the Metro Centre in Newcastle, if anyone has experience of that store?

You can try, no harm in trying. If you were to insert it into a phone it would activate itself. Mine came pre-activated as its normally the ones in shops in little packets which are inactive. Activate it first.

I would then recommend filling out their PAC form tomorrow so when you wake up Friday its all ported and your 3 sim is active and has your old number on it ready to go. It will be pure chaos trying to do any of this on Friday.

Why is your SIM jammed? Did you try and cut down your regular sim into a micro sim ;)

no, the tray has been broken for a while, i took it to an engineer and he said it would cost £50 to fix it :( basically there's a lock broken inside....the paperclip/sim opener doesn't work, it's proper jammed.....apple looked at it too and they couldn't do it!

So does it come pre-activated then? Ie when my iPhone 5 comes, can i just put the nano SIM inside and it will work with the new number? I can port my number any time, not worried about that, as i said, just want it to work! :)

Hey guys, for the ones on O2 doing the swap to nano, how long is the process taking for you? I did mine yesterday online and said it would take a couple of hours, it's been about 18 hours now and my current micro sim is still working.

Do it via the text message method in the booklet - seems to be quicker that way - thought mine still took around 5/6 hours. But most people seem to get theirs switched in a matter of minutes after sending the text.

not sure about people who are swapping sims over with 3 but I had a new contract and sim sent to be and I activated over the phone with them and getting my number ported across to it today (hopefully!)

ring them to activate it just in case. Sometimes there already active, sometimes not. Ring to be sure.

Friend on mine called T-Mobile earlier and some arse told him he was informed via email that he would get it within 30 days of launch and that's that.

Thanks guys, am on the phone to them now :)

They said it's already activated, but porting my number can take between 1 and 13 days! is that right???

Porting is quicker but it depends on how quickly Orange let them. I left Orange for 3, requested the port one afternoon and it was done the same day. Like I said, do the request on Thursday afternoon and it will be done for Friday. You may be disconnected for a little while i.e over night but there is no avoiding that.

Good morning all!

I have a little dilema which no one seems to understand... but I am sure you guys can see my point!

I have an iPhone 5 on preorder from Three which I ordered on Friday AM so SHOULD arrive on launch day.

With this being the first year I have moved away from O2, who I have been with for 5 or so years, I am unsure how other carriers work.

My problem is that after reading more and more reports, I feel that I should have gone with Orange to gain 4G, I live and work in two of the lucky 16 citys which will get 4G when EE is up and running!

So two things are stopping me from getting my iPhone with Orange:

1) When I phone Three to enquire about cancelling my preorder they tell me this can't be done?!?! Anyone else had this? Is this correct or should I keep trying until I speak to someone who knows what they are doing?

2) I have missed the PreOrder boat with Orange, but as with O2 I wouldn't need to preorder the phone in store, I would just have to be one of the first in line on launch day. Is this still true for Orange? Is anyone else planning on getting up 4am etc?

Any help / advice would be much appricated!

Anyone else justify sticking with Three? Its an overall cheaper deal and my iPad is currently on a Three Data plan, so I can vouch that the network is stable and pretty fast in my area. Is 4G going to be that much better???

many thanks in advance

I am very frustrated. I had to go to the States this week for a short business trip but now it got extended till end of October. So my iPhone 5 would sit for more than a month waiting for me!!!! Its like ordering it from Apple now... Oh well :mad:

I'd rather do it first thing Friday morning to be honest, not too fussed about having it over the weekend on a new number, but there still may be a chance it will be done the same day right? If i do it early? :)

3 said that?

I was told 24 hours.

it hasn't taken that long since about 1999 when the service launched.
It does take 24 hours but they might be covering themselves in case carnage happens this weekend. Maybe port your number tomorrow and then it should be active sometime on Friday.
